(Jan. 27) -- The disappearance of Olivia Newton-John's boyfriend Patrick McDermott in 2005 has always been shrouded in mystery. Could the case be unsolved because McDermott actually faked the whole thing?
Dateline NBC hired a private investigator to look into the case. As far as the public knows, McDermott supposedly drowned at sea, but investigator Philip Klein believes he actually intentionally went missing to allow his son to cash in a life insurance policy and also to avoid paying debts.
Klein says McDermott has been spotted nearly 20 times since his disappearance, usually along the Mexican and South American coastline.
Newton-John was very outspoken and proactive about McDermott's disappearance, but after little progress was made, she eventually moved on and married businessman John Easterling in 2008.

They've said that all along - wouldn't surprise me a bit if the whole thing was a hoax.

I suspected from the start that he faked his own death!

Although she spent most of her childhood in Australia she's actually originally from England. I believe she and her family moved to Australia when she was about five or six. My Dad told me a few days ago that she was originally from Cambridge, which is basically just up the road from me (or 15 miles away, to be precise.)
I quite like some of her songs. She also seems like a nice woman and I like how she was friendly with the Bee Gees and Andy Gibb when all were in their heyday (and maybe still is?) I also think she was the only celebrity to attend Andy Gibb's funeral.

I always thought this story was a little weird and it's nice to see it is finally being cleared up.

Here's a video I've always liked on youtube - Oliva, ABBA and Andy Gibb singing Beach Boys songs! I mainly watched it because I like Andy (in my opinion he was a rather nice-looking guy.) I like ABBA as well.
There's a few more videos of the three of them together.

From what I've read, the two of them were pretty much finished as a couple before he vanished. Yes, I agree she's done a lot better for herself now.

If this is true, then I hope he comes back to the U.S. so that Olivia could
give him a good hard kick where it hurts and then he should be charged
with fraud or whatever.
Me, too!! The upcoming Dateline special sounds very interesting.
