View Full Version : Do you believe in Global Warming?

I don't believe the Earth is getting warmer, especially since right now when it's so freezing cold here. I do think we need to work on fighting pollution, protecting the environment, cutting down on waste, and finding a cleaner, more renewable source of energy.
I know some people say that the Earth's temperature has risen a degree or two since 1900, but how do they know the Earth wasn't warming up from a period of cold temperatures? The Earth has been around a heck of a lot longer than record-keeping.

****, No!
We had more methane pollution during the Roman and Medieval Times than we probably do now, since we don't own horses.
Also, 200 years of Man Pollution is nothing compared to the 6000 years of Earth!

Global Warming isn't something you can believe or disbelieve in - it is a measurable fact that global temperatures and carbon dioxide levels are increasing. This has absolutely nothing to do with local or seasonal temperatures, and the causes (and whether there are any solutions) for it are debateable and theoretical.
The earth has gone through a number of ice ages and climate changes, and it is inevitable that it will continue to do so.

When i was a kid, winters were MUCH colder, we had ice to skate on from mid Dec to late March......now youre lucky if the ponds are frozen over for a month! I believe it, yes! Not to mention the polar ice caps are melting and, thats something that didnt happen during normal cyclical climate changes.

YES!!!!!
and it is happening while we speak, we are in trouble. We have abused abused mother nature- one of god's gifts. It's now time to face up to the facts, global climate change is real, real, real REAL. Being an environmentalist, it saddens me deeply when I see people contributing to global warming and acting like it doesn't exist- OF COURSE it exists, there's proof. I don't understand why people don't want to believe it, and man up to what us humans have to done to our home. If everybody recognized it as problem, did what they could to help, we could stop a major issue that's taking it's toll. I could go on... but I will leave it at that. I've researched this topic plenty of times, so I could write a whole book on it :) and not just global warming, but also environmental justice, ecology, world economics ect.

undecided. but i think that if global warming is actually happening, it's caused by humans' lack of care for the environment.

It is now being referred to as "climate change" because most data shows that 1998 was the peak in temperature.
I remember back in the 1970s when the big scare was an upcoming "ice age!"

Agreed. Anything that may be changing with the Earth isn't man made, or it wouldn't be happening on Mars as well.

I don't know in detail, the science behind it, but my sense is yeah we should take normal means of protecting (i.e., being good stewards of) the planet)--but I'm no enviro-Nazi. Some of these dire claims out there, in my opinion are really 'out there', if you know what I mean.
I am distrustful of extreme environmentalism and I think the claims of the global warming people are grossly exaggerated. I think global warming is a valid concern that should have a reasonable approach, but I have no use for the enviro-extremists who want to beat me over the head with their political agendas.

I do believe it is happening, although I really hope, and would like to believe, that it's not as serious as some people say it is.
I do think it can be fought off by action and through the power of positive thinking. If we create our own realities with our thoughts and beliefs, then we can create a world where there is no global warming.

Science is science, in this case it really can't be disputed, so yes I believe in it.

I haven't quite figured out why people don't want to believe in it, like they're against it or something. It's science, it's real, there's proof- global climate change is a man-made problem. I can't figure out if people are just ignorant or they don't want to change their ways to help our planet. In my mind, it's not even a question- there is global warming.

If "global warming" is "man-made," why was there a slight cooling period from 1940-1965 compared to 1900-1940. There was much more industry and automobiles in the 1940-1965 period.
As for "science being science," it was "science" which gave us the "global cooling" scare back in the 1970s.
Complete and utter nonsense, manufactured for political reasons.

I think that Daphne Zuniga is a very beautiful woman and very lovely to
look at, but she is also a radical liberal who helped vote into office one
of the worst presidents in this country's history.

I do believe in it but since I'm a New Ager, I believe that we create our realities with our thoughts and beliefs. Seth, a spirit channelled by Jane Roberts, dictated several books and went into the subject of people creating their own realities a lot. I think we can fight global warming by changing our beliefs and thoughts and creating realities for ourselves without global warming.
I think taking action against it will solve problems as well, but I do firmly believe in mind over matter. It takes a lot of practice and mental energy to create our realities with our thoughts and beliefs but I strongly believe that it can be done. The New Age teaches of one of the oldest laws, the Law of Attraction - basically, you attract what you think about. What you believe.

It's a really admirable thing to do littlebelle. :) You can create your reality free of global warming through your thoughts and beliefs. Are you familiar with the New Age teachings about people creating their realities?

No, as long as you're talking about man-made global warming. It's just a natural cycle what is occurring, contrary to what the "drive-by media" would have you believe. A coworker bought a copy of Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" and showed me a picture of a glacier that melted (or a river reduced to a trickle) in Europe, and I just laughed!!! Why do the Kool-Aid drinkers in the media want to blame man for that phenomenon?
