Citizen Spielberg by Lester D. Friedman
An interesting book in which Friedman argues that despite Spielberg's reputaion as a popular entertainer, that he still has earned the right to be regarded as a serious artist. Even though I've always loved quite a few of Spielberg's films, it wasn't really until about two years ago that I began to view him as a serious artist along the same lines as an Alfred Hitchcock or a Stanley Kubrick.

The first time I read it I was confused as the book jumps around to different characters, jumps to different times, and jumps to different perspectives- one minute you're reading first person perspective, the next- third person. And these things sometimes happen right in the middle of a sentence or paragraph. But it's become one of my favorite books.

What do you think of The Tommyknockers? In my opinion, it was one of King's weaker novels. Especially since it came after such classics as It (released a year before) and Misery (released earlier the same year). Still, that is just my opinion. You might really enjoy the book. :)

I read It in 1997 and loved it. Even though it was a really long book (1,000 + pages) it kept me interested the entire time I was reading it. I think I read the last 200 pages in one night. I just wanted to know how it was going to turn out. Even though I had seen the television movie, I had heard that the ending was more complex in the novel. Which it was. One of these days I'm going to have to reread it. :)

Well, he sure isn't portraying the rest of the family (with the possible exception of the Jackson daughters) in a very flattering light, either.

Currently, I'm delighted to be reading the somewhat contemporary, self- improvement classic, "The Magic of Thinking Big", by David J. Schwartz, Ph.D. I find it easy to describe this book as a somewhat contemporary classic. That is because of the sage advice and staunch optimisim located thruout the book itself. That specfic quality makes the text just as relevant nowadays, as it was when the book was first introduced to readers in 1959. It is presently being published by Fireside/ Simon Schuster.

I don't like bios like that. When the biographer picks someone to write a book about, but seems to have nothing good to say about them. Its like Albert Goldman's book on John Lennon. It was 1,000 pages of trash talk. I read Taraborelli's book on Grace Kelly though, and that was really good.

I don't really think he portrayed Michael in a bad light. Joe, definitely, and to some degree the brothers. It's common knowledge that some of them cheated on their wives and girlfriends and even had illegitimate children - so the author wasn't making any fabrications there. Again, no one except Michael will ever know the complete truth, but I don't think it was a bad book at all.

It's been years since I last read that book, but it felt like Taraborelli wanted to portrait Michael as a total wimp, because he didn't like driving, and he didn't have groupies like his brothers did.

Wow - that's not the impression I got. But I can relate to Michael not wanting to drive. He got his license at age 23 and I got mine at age 25.

Right now I'm reading this awesome book called "Singing With the Top Down". Until just a few days ago, I was making myself crazy, trying to remember the name of the book. I'd read it before and was dying to read it again and all I knew was the plot. I still can't believe that the title just "came to me" after all the time I spent searching online with no luck whatsoever! I'm going to buy this book for my collection!!!
