oh I would, believe me. The thing is, you can't really find a steady job in that field and that's what I'm focused on at this point. It's like a vicious circle.
I know what you mean. I wanted to be a writer-still do-but so few people can really make a living doing it. So since I love history, I decided to major in that, and still write on the site, which I do. I hope to have a novel published one day.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you. :) I wish it weren't so difficult. We all have different talents and interests...and it seems only people whose talents and interests are in science and related fields can really benefit from it. It gets frustrating for the rest of us.

Ugh, I HATE that. I have one teacher like that this semester also. We have these little activities we do(write a short paper on something) and then she wants people to read them in front of the class(she tries to get volunteers and then just randomly picks people). She's now saying that if you don't want to read it you won't even get credit for it. :soapbox: Gah. I haven't been called on yet but I know I will be, the semester is young.
It's bad enough being called on, I'd hate reading something out loud that I wrote. My professor this semester makes everyone fold a piece of paper in front of them with their name written on it so he can call on people. He's so intimidating, and makes you feel stupid when you don't know the answer. I can't wait until his class is over.

I had a professor who did that entire name thing too. He also made the class sit with our desks in a circle around the room so that we could all see each other. This was Introduction to Western Cuture that I took in 1998. The class could have been fun, but the professor turned it into a really negative experience.

I had two different majors in school. Mainly because I couldn't decide what I wanted to do with my life.
I started out majoring in Elementary Education. Knew about half way through the first semester that wasn't the job for me. I just got so bored with the classes.
So, the first semester ends and I have to decide what I'm going to do with my life. Hmmmmmm... Talked to my counselor. Talked to friends. Talked to my old teachers. I talked to just about everyone. Finally decided on a different major. Accounting.
Now mind you. Math was my worst subject in school. I took any easy math class that I could. Just to get the credits necessary. My friends and family all laughed. They couldn't imagine me as an accountant.
Well, I went away to school. Got my degree and have been working as an accountant for nearly 14 years now. Go figure.
Right now, I'm a manager for a small accounting firm. Strange how things work out.....

Right now my obsession is Friends(which I never watched on NBC). I've watched 200 episodes(almost all of them) in the last 4 weeks, most on YouTube and a few in syndication. It's been causing me to be less interested in primetime TV lately.
I've been into Friends myself lately. I watched a lot of it during it's original run, and had forgotten just how funny that show can be.

Ah, disillusion....
As an idealist, I live in a world bent on staggering me away from my ideal. Turns out we can't rely on any of the institutions which we have been told to rely on from birth. The only intitution that counts is family.
This society seems like a massive, ticking, bomb; just waiting to implode upon itself, engulfing us all in the flames of fear, greed and enlightened self-interest....
There must be a better way. Nothing makes sense. I look around at the world/community/society/economy/ and I see hollowness. Trapped in a job I've been told I need to survive, knowing full well that this job will not get me through the coming years....
Brainwashed to believe we can live comfortably and greedily in our own little bubbles forever. When the bottom falls out, where do we turn?
I want to protect my family... I want to sustain my world. Everyone else can burn...
Where do we go from here?
I find myself growing incresingly more radical...

If you're in the mood to look into the metaphysical, I would recommend looking into the New Age beliefs (particularly about the way we create our own realities with our thoughts, beliefs and emotions), the Law of Attraction, and the Seth books by Jane Roberts (Seth was a spirit she channelled; he dictated many of the books.)

No, no, no, no, that should NEVER happen. First of all, there are a lot of people that don't have much common sense who are actually very bright in other ways (it's often been said that people with a genius level of intelligence can be rather lacking in common sense.)
I don't have a lot of common sense either, but I know things. I know a lot about the Bee Gees, for example. I've read a lot about them.
Secondly, it's more important to be a nice person than to be a person of high intelligence. There's nothing wrong with not being very bright.
I think people should stop coming down so hard on those who don't necessarily have a high level of intelligence. If they were evil, rude, nasty people then I would understand. But if they're a decent person, then just let them be.
If you met me, you would probably consider me to not necessarily be very bright because I'm somewhat lacking in certain skills that most other people have. And I admit, common sense isn't my strongest point. But I should not be sterilised because I am a nice person.
I think what you suggested is terrible. :(

Giving my parents money.
I had to give them $200 more today. Last week it was $400. And that totals to $600 this year. Last year they owed me money too and add that...That's $1300!
Not only that but my dad said that I have an attitude. Well...I learned it from him and I had to apologize to him forcefully.
I have a City bill that's two years old that I want to pay back and I would like to have cable, but those two things will never happen. And I might as well forget about offering and buying music from amazon.com. I may become more miserly when it comes to money, I won't even buy a stick of gum!

Right now my complaint is with the media.
I know things are bad and that we are in a recession and the umemployment rate is as high as it was in the mid 70's(I am a part of it so I can speak on this). Whenever the news is or or look at your local paper, all they seem to talk about is the economy and how bad things are, its seems they have to hit you over the head with it and wont let you forget that things are bad. I am not in denial about things, and nor am I an optimist(but I am not a pessimst either), but goodness cant the media take a break. This is why I can only listen to the news in small doses. Who wants to be even more depressed than they already are?

You make me cry Lauren... and I'm all the way out here in California. I'm so sorry that you're feeling blue... I have been there... life is bitterly cruel, a lot of the time. I really don't know what else I can say... it's hard to talk about issues like this over a message board.. I wish I could be over there in Alabama with a big smile, and, well, maybe a chocolate sundae... to cheer you up. I don't know... but I do understand... It's just hard for me to talk about my issues out in the open, you know? I do such a good job at hiding everything.:(
I'll sit down beside you tonight, Lauren... I feel your pain.:(
I know this is a little late, Lauren sweetie...but please don't feel that way! I've had big dissapointments in my life too, but I get over them and so will you. You're young, and you have your whole life in front of you still!:bighug:

I do feel well prepared, it's just that I've heard some negative things about this professor's exams from people who have taken his class before. He even states that the exams are not like the problems we go over in class (not sure why). I've studied a lot, but I think I could always study more.
Yes, I'm majoring in accounting. I hope to graduate in December, and then hopefully I'll be able to get an internship next winter. I then plan on going back for a year to get my Masters of Accounting degree.

Good for you, Mike! You sound very ambitious, and you know what you want and how to get it. When it comes to accounting, let's just say that I'm thrilled with online banking, as it basically balances my checkbook for me, lol. Let us know how you did on the test, or at this point, how you think you did. I could always tell if I bombed or aced a test, or somewhere in between.

I'm having a cervical (neck) MRI next Wednesday. I've had five in the past two+ years, but they were all in open machines because I'm claustrophobic. I'm in a new healthcare group, and they don't have the open machines. I don't know if I can handle it. The open machines are open on the sides, so Lou could sit by my side and hold my hand (as I squeezed his). No sides on the regular machines. I need this test as it's been 14 months, and something has obviously changed, judging by my pain. God, this turned into a book. Sorry.

Probably not until March 3rd. That's the next time I have that class, and this professor doesn't post grades online. Though, on the test I took Wednesday, I got a 75. Could have been better obviously, but I am very happy with it since I barely had time to study for that test, and the class average was like a 60%.

Sorry.
Janice, I hope and pray that they can finally get to the botom of your illness.

No, because you have to participate a little for certain film shots, but my doctor can prescribe something strong to relax me. So yeah, I'm calling her on Monday. I'll be flying high, lol. Thanks Monika. You folks are great. It takes about 45 minutes, depending on how well a person cooperates. There are probably eight films taken, at four to eight minutes long. The technician is behind a glass booth and speaks via microphone. "This next test will take six minutes. You're doing great!" Here and there, they come to move your head a certain way. It's that noise that I hate. Those machines sound like an airplane taking off, which is actually good because now I plan on being high, lol.

Wow! I've never had an MRI done, but I have had CAT scans in the past. About 8 years ago I got sick and had no idea what it was. I was sapped of all strength, I couldn't eat and lost about 20 pounds in less than a month. I had to get blood tests, an ultrasound (to check for gallstones), and a CT scan. They checked for diabetes, mono, gallstones, anemia, you name it. Finally, they chalked it up to a virus. That started back in September 2000 and I have never felt the same since. I'm OK most of the time but am still physically weak and tired so much of the time. We all have a cross to bear, and that one would be mine.

Electronics used to last for years because they were built to withstand years of wear and tear. I have a sony betamax that's still going strong and the quality is far better than any VHS unit and most dvd players I've seen. Today's electronics might as well be made with paper mache.

oh no, Janice, honey, I hope it's nothing serious!
As for the MRI, I'm sure it won't be as bad as you think it will, just close your eyes while it's going on and I'm sure it'll be over before you know it. Yes, I know that's "easier said than done" as I'm not claustrophobic, but while it's going on just try to relax and not think about it. I've also had MRIs, and, really, it won't be bad at all. When was your last one?
And, as I said in my e-mail, if ever you want to talk or you feel the need to "vent" I'm just an e-mail or a P.M. away.
I'll be thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers on Wednesday!!!:bighug: When is it being done on Wednesday?

For those who are unfamiliar with MRIs, the top two are open machines, and the bottom is a closed one. If you're having an MRI for your back, you go in feet first. I'll go in head first, as it's for my neck.

Youtube, simply youtube. I have tried to post videos on there that I MYSELF HAD MADE! But the song was a copy right infringement (sorry, spelling is not one of my stronger subjects). I even just put up small little clips of shows and the next week they are taken off. These companies keep stepping in and taking the fun away. So what if some one wants to post a small clip? It's advertisement for a show, I mean, you're not posting the entire show and earning money from it. What's the harm in it? I'm starting to feel like every little thing I do on there is a copy right infringement. :(

No. I get a: "We need to get more meat in this case" Tell me, how on bloody hell earth, can I get more product in the case when we don't have anymore product? I did my best and I was actually quite satisfied with how it looked, all things considered...

By the way - this is why I do carry-on in addition to having a piece of checked luggage. Only my clothes go into my checked luggage, and important stuff comes with me on the plane. If I forget clothes, oh well. I can get some at my destination.
The summer I turned 9 years old (1994), we took a car trip to Minneapolis. When we got to Minneapolis, we realized we hadn't packed my suitcase so we had to make an emergency trip to like... Target, I think, to get new clothes for me because we were going to be in Minneapolis for about a week.
When we got home, we saw my ready-to-go suitcase sitting in my sister's and my bedroom. Not the same as luggage getting separated from its owner on a plane, but still.
