Haha. I can relate. I BARELY passed my driving test; one or two more points off, and I would've had to take it again. For a year after I got my license, I kept wondering why on earth anyone gave it to me to begin with. lol. Thankfully, I've gotten much better since then. ;)

I feel good because yesterday, while we were shopping at Michael's Arts & Crafts, I found a beautiful mahogany display frame/case for my father's military flag. It's triangle, and is a very nice piece for my home. At my father's funeral seven years ago, his folded flag was handed to me. I packed it away neatly with tissue paper; yet for some reason, I just couldn't find the heart to deal with it. Yesterday, fate intervened at Michael's, and there it was in front of me. The fact that it was $40, and then 40% off that helped me deal with it real quick. My Dad always loved a bargain, and he would be proud of me.
patriot:
I just need decide now where to hang or display it. I hope that doesn't take another seven years.

Janice, that's great that you found a display case for your dad's flag. I'm sure it will look great whereever you put it. I think that's really nice that you will put the flag in it. It's a nice memento to have. Like you mentioned I'm sure you dad is proud of you. :) You certainly got a great deal on the case. :)

My Aunt has a beautiful cabinet set up with all of Jamie's things. On top is the flag that they gave her at his funeral, and inside are his purple heart, dog tags, bronze star, and pins from his unit. On the wall above it is this painting by Thomas Kinkade.

That is such a cool deal, Janice! Not sure if you knew, but Target sells the triangle cases for military flags. I think they come in black only, though, and I can't remember how much they cost offhand. Nevertheless, it sounds like you found what you were looking for! :) Nice score!

Funny you should mention that, Allison. I saw a flag case at Target, but it was just after my father had passed away, so I wasn't ready. I went back a few years later, and I couldn't find one. I remember it cost $50, and all I saw were the black ones. The one I bought is a deep mahogany which matches the rest of my cherrywood furniture. Can't even tell the woods apart unless you're trying.

That's great news Janice. Sometimes you find great things when you're not even looking for them. I bet it's going to look so nice once you get it all set up. It'll be a great way to honor your Dad and you are so right. I know he would be so proud of you. :)

Thank you both. :) I've drove about 3 hours already, lol. I even took my girlfriend and I to get breakfast this morning. She can supervise my driving since she's 21. It's so nice to finally be able to drive. Without the support in real-life, and definitely you all on here, I probably couldn't have done it. I clam up like crazy and get nervous on tests, so I needed all the prayers and positive thoughts I could get. You guys rock! :yourock:

I just got home from a friend's baby shower and it was so much fun. It was just a bunch of teachers I work with, but I guess I was really missing hanging out with these ladies since school let out last month and we don't get together often during the summer. And I am a sucker for cutesy baby things anyway. I am in a much better mood than I was in yesterday!

My university friend Justin passed away in a car accident in April. He had finished his dissertation and two other friends handed it in for him.
I've found out from Jen that he got 80% for his dissertation.
Hardly anyone gets 80% or above! It's rare enough for people to get high Firsts (a First ranges from 70-79% and Justin usually got 78s.) Anything in the 80% range is almost never given out.
We're all so proud of him!
