Columbo Star Peter Falk Has Alzheimer's

The poor man and his family. So sad to hear of such a colourful fellow now suffering from such a horrible disease. :(

Famed Columbo star Peter Falk is battling Alzheimer's and dementia, his daughter says.

According to TMZ.com, Catherine Falk filed legal papers in L.A. County Superior Court claiming her father, 81, "requires full-time custodial care for his health and safety."

She goes on to say that she is worried her father "can easily be deceived into transferring away property" and believes a conservatorship will protect him from "fraud or undue influence," TMZ reports. A hearing on the matter is set for next month.

That is so sad. I've been a Peter Falk fanfor over 30 years. Columbo was one of my Mom's favorite shows and out whole family would sit down in front of the TV on Sunday nights to watch him. Such wonderful memories. My prayers go out to Peter and his family during this difficult time. :(

It's so sad to think of him with such a horrible disease. It's like when we heard of Estelle Getty and Dudley Moore. Not that you want anyone to get it, but there's just certain people who you've grown to love like a family member over the years.

It's such a toll on the family too. My father-in-law died 2 years ago January from it. Makes me want to read up on him - sounds like he's not married and that's why the daughter wants to have power of attorney.

I can't remember exactly myself (and am too lazy right now to feel like googling - it's late!), but it was so form of dementia I think. Similar symptoms at anyway.

I remember everyone thinking Dudley had a drinking problem again that was out of control. That's what was even more unfortunate.

I'm sad to hear the news about Peter Falk. He was awesome in playing the role of Columbo.
