View Full Version : Favorite Pizza: Restaurant or Store Bought?

Where do you like to go for pizza? Do you have a favorite restaurant that you go to with your family or do you prefer to go to the grocery store to buy a frozen pizza to cook at home. My favorite restaurant in Chicago for pizza is Home Run Inn. I usually go with my friends once a month on a Saturday night when it's very crowded. The pizza takes awhile before it arrives at the table but it's worth the wait.

I like restaurant pizza delivered to my house. I usually like all types of pizza so it doesn't really matter where we order from. My mother makes awesome homeade pizza so we almost never have the frozen stuff.

I have become a true believer in "take & bake." Papa Murphy's is amazing.

There are two places in my town for good pizza.

One is Erbelle's. They have a buffet every weekday during lunch hours and not only is it reaonable price wise but the food is good too.

The other is Martini's. The owner is originally from Chicago and everything there is baked homemade. Their pizzas are to die for. They have a veggie pizza which is the best veggie pizza I have had.

For frozen pizza I like Tombstones, and Jacks. They are good for adding on topping like loads of extra cheese.

I like store bought, frozen pizza the best. My sister's in-laws work for a frozen foods distributor and get to take lots of samples home. :D I will admit that I am a sucker for Pizza Hut's personal pan pizza with pepperoni. (Say that three times fast.) Probably my favorite is my dad's homemade pizza.

That buffet sure sounds good! What kind of selection do you get and what can someone expect to pay to take a family of four there.

There's a little pizza place called Sammie's that has really great pizza here. We usually get one with everything on it.

I prefer restaurant pizza (some favorites include: Pizzeria Uno, Pizza Hut, and a local place called La Casa). Nothing beats a good fried bread crumb and onion slice from La Casa

If I have to get frozen pizza, I usually go for Red Baron. Their frozen pizza is sooooo good

Hey, Great One! I live in the Chicago area, too! I have TWO favorite restaurants for pizza - Giordano's and Gino's East. There was also a smaller pizzaeria on the South Side called Chesdan's that had the best thin crust pizza on the planet!!! I know they're no longer on Archer Avenue, but I don't even know if they even exist anymore.

Giordano's is the best place on the planet for deep dish pizza. Every time I go there with my family it's like a major event and my taste buds get very happy.

I have never eaten at Gino's East. What kind of pizza do they specialize in?

Archer Avenue has some very good food places to eat at.

They have various kinds of pizza ranging from all meat to all veggies to just cheese and everything in between. Also at this buffet they serve cheese bream(mmmm), salad, and these things called chicken fingers. It also comes with a soda, and it runs something like $7 per person, but its an all you can eat buffet and worth every cent. Come to Kalamazoo and I'll take you there:)

Sometimes I go to Michigan with my family to get apples so I may actually end up trying the all you can eat buffet. All that food really does sound good!

Even though I do not live in Chicagoland, yes!

I remember eating at their Findlay location back on May 17, 1998, on my first road trip by myself involving a motel stay. I took it back to my motel room and watched the Chicago Bulls in the playoffs. The next day I went trekking in north central Ohio (otherwise known as the "north coast", where the East of Chicago brand is dominant), and I became hooked to the brand. To this day it brings back memories of that trip.

The chain eventually opened up three locations in the Dayton area, but two of them have since closed (the Huber Heights one remains, and it is the furthest away of the three locations :crying: ).

I love pizza! :happyface The best pizza places, IMHO, are the independently owned restaurants. We have a few in my area that I really like. For chain restaurants, I like Bertucci's brick oven pizza, Pizza Hut, and Papa Gino's.

As for frozen or store-bought pizza, IMHO, it just doesn't taste the same as having it at a restaurant.

Gino's East has pizza that has a cornbread crust. I absolutely LOVE it! They serve other things too, but it's always the pizza I go for!

My husband also says Pizzeria Uno has great pizza too, but I've never tried it. I'd like to though, someday.

Finally, last time I went down Archer Avenue there are a lot of Mexican and Polish places to eat - not as many as when I used to live around there. If you can tell me if Chesdan's is still around someplace let me know. I'd like to go back there sometime!

I totally agree! Independently owned pizzerias are my favorites, enough to practically make me forget East of Chicago!

The only pizza "chain" I go to besides East of Chicago is Pisanello's, which I think is based in Bowling Green--or somewhere near Toledo. They have a location in Franklin (north of Middletown). Check out www.pisanellos.com/ (http://www.pisanellos.com/).

I like Round Table and Dominoes--(They bear little resemblance to what I grew up with, but both franchises seem always to be striving for quality)

There are a few local independents I like: Their usual tagline is "New York style pizza, and they to some extent, live up to that ideal.

In general, I do not care for the grocery store, frozen brand names. I do eat them on occasion, but it's not the same thing. What I do like though, are the freshly assembled 'take and bake' pizzas put together by the local supermarkets and sold in their deli sections. They're not frozen, just refrigerated, but you have to use them right away to keep the freshness. Maybe not 'pizzeria' per se, but not bad at all.
