South Korean Woman Still Faces Driving Test To Get License

Seoul, South Korea -- A woman in South Korea who tried to pass the written exam for a driver's license with near-daily attempts since April 2005 has finally succeeded on her 950th time.

The aspiring driver spent more than 5 million won ($4,200) in application fees, but until now had failed to score the minimum 60 out of a possible 100 points needed to get behind the wheel for a driving test.

Cha Sa-soon, 68, finally passed the written exam with a score of 60 on Wednesday, said Choi Young-chul, a police official at the drivers' license agency in Jeonju, 130 miles (210 kilometers) south of Seoul.

Police said Cha took the test hundreds of times, but had no specific total. Local media said she took the test 950 times.

Now she must pass a driving test before getting her license, Choi said.

Repeated calls to Cha seeking comment went unanswered. She told the Korea Times newspaper she needed the license for her vegetable-selling business.

I remember this lady!! We had a couple of other posts here about her in the past. I thought it was bad when I flunked my driver's test three times before getting my license on the fourth try - but this woman had to go through much worse. I'm so happy she finally passed. Good for her!!! :D

Totally! Her story should be an inspiration for every person frustrated with trying to pass their driver's tests.

The written test was easy compared to the driving test IMO. I failed the driving test twice.

If at first you don't succeed; try, try again. And again, again, again...

No, I'm really happy for the poor girl. I haven't even bothered to get my permit for the love of God, and I'm 20 years old.

I wonder if she will pass the driving road test. If she does and the time comes to renew her license I wonder if she will be able to pass the written exam? lol.

If at first you dont succeed try, try again is wrong. Its if at first you dont suceed, come up with a new plan, and try again.

I bet she had to pay a lot of fees to keep trying for this. I bet the DMV enjoyed collecting her money every time too! When my brother relocated to another state 3 years ago, they made him re take another road test and he failed. He had been driving for 13 years. I know another person who took a road test recently and they failed her for putting her seatbelt on too slowly. Sometimes I wonder if they pull these tricks to collect more money out of people.
