I know there's already a special website about annoying commercials (Commercials I Hate.com), but for some reason I can't seem to register on their message board, so I figured I'd start a thread here about annoying commercials. I personally HATE commercials with a passion, especially the ones that have been coming out lately. Half the time, you don't even know what the heck they are selling! Car commercials, Geico commercials, internet commercials, fast food commercials, phone commercials and video game commercials are high up on my list of annoying commercials. I actually used to love commercials back in the '80s because they were entertaining and got to the point and the commercial breaks weren't as lengthy. Then by the 1990's, commercials started going downhill. Now, they went from ridiculous to just plain outta' hand! I make certain exceptions to animal commercials because I love animals. But everytime I'm watching something on TV and I'm really into it, they have to cut right in with some stupid commercial. Like I'd be watching a "Law & Order" episode, then just as they're getting to the good part, BAM!!! Some stupid ad comes on the screen and I just scream at the top of my lungs!! Then, I'm flipping through the channels, I have one of those cable boxes that has a display at the bottom of the screen that lets you know what I'm watching, and I'm like....OH, GREAT!!! I've been wanting to see this...then I find myself sitting through, like...almost an hour's worth of commercials!! OYE!!!! So, how's about we talk a little bit about the most annoying commercials on TV that makes you want to throw something at the screen everytime it comes on.

that commercial made me break my tv about two years ago when it was airing during every single commercial break on every channel i saw. it came on once and i was so aggravated that i busted in one of the buttons while changing the channel.

I thought of a few:

Any commercial where someone is suffering from arthritis, diarrhea, depresion, herpes, diabetes....not that I'm not sympathetic to people, but the acting is so bad in these commercials you just want to throw something at the screen. Especially that one ad where this white-haired attractive lady is talking about "fibromialgea" and she starts feeling herself up as if she's seducing us, or something.

I also hate all the optimum commercials: The one with the rapper, the one with the blonde housewife and the one with the puppets.

All the stupid pasta-from-Pizza-Hut commercials where the people think they're eating "authentic pasta".

The Campbell soup commercials with that stupid "Possibilities" song.

The Craft commercial where the little girl is drinking a glass of milk and she smiles into the camera with this driblet of milk on her chin (EEEWWW!!!).

Alot of the holiday ads that are out there now.

Any college commercial that makes people who don't go to college for the rest of their lives feel like losers! Ex: "You're sittin' on the couch, you're watchin' TV and your life's passin' you by..."

The Colgate commercial with "Tiffany". That girl who's filming herself brushing her teeth at night, with her big teeth in the camera. Then the next morning her teeth are once again in the camera and she's showing us how "squeaky clean" her teeth are before she brushes them. EWWW!!

Movie ads.

Wii commercials.

The stupid Swiffer ads....they ruined a really good '70s song ("Baby Come Back")...I especially cannot stand the one with the Mariachi band.

Any commercial where they show a smug wife and the stupid, incompetent husband.

Any Garnier commercial.

The "Leap Frog" ads.

The talking thumbs.

The clicking heals.

Any cell phone commercial.

The McDonald's breakfast commercial.

Too many others to think about now, but I'll think of more later.

The ones that really bother me are the ones where men are depicted as brainless idiots. I thought at first they were kind of funny and I guess a response to all the commercials that depicted women as subserviant to their husbands from the '50s. But now it has gotten way out of hand. I don't think women need to be depicted as morons either, but all these ads where men are depicted as idiots are insulting to me as a man and I also think about all the young boys who are growing up around all these ads. I think men and women should be depicted as smart, maybe goofy, but no as airheads. And also the Viagara ads are a little insulting. And DawsonGirl...don't hate us guys...believe me, we are extremely embarassed by these ads.

I cannot STAND the Progressive.com ads with that annoying Molly Shannon wannabe in everyone's face, "Welcome to Progressive.com, how may I help you?" Uh...I know one way you can help me AND THE ENTIRE WORLD!!!! YOU CAN JUMP OFF A FREAKING CLIFF!!!! Oh....and the ones where they show closeups of these old people's skin and body parts, I guess showing the effects of rumatoid arthritis. And it always comes on while I'm eating. EWWWW!!!!! And this one time I came home from school and I wanted to watch something on I believe TNT, or something....and I rush all the way into the living room and turn it on and instead of seeing my show, the very first thing I see are the arms, back, legs, ect. of people who have arthritis....EWWWW!!!!! Then I get hit with this barage of commercials left and right, SOMETIMES THE SAME ONES TWICE!!!!! OYEEEEE!!!!! Then my show comes back on, but only for a few minutes, then just as they're getting to the really good part, BAM!!! A stupid, lousy commercial cuts right in (that stupid ShamWOW ad that's on for practically an entire 20 minutes or so) then the next one....THE NASTY ARTHRITIS ONE!!! Then a whole hours worth of commercials and by the time my show comes back on, it only has a few seconds left, and guaranteed alot was cut from it to make room for a bunch of lousy commercials!!

I know it seems silly, but with a lot of men, you have to seriously slap them in the face and make them realize their own mortality before they'll go to the doctor, especially when they aren't sick. And having a woman who isn't their wife is a decent way to do it.

Right now it's those "He went to Jared!!" commercials for the jewelry place. I hate it how EVERYONE in the commercial is excited that some dude got his girl diamonds or whatever from Jared. There's one from a while back where it's the whole family at a gathering and EVERYONE is saying "He went to Jared!". In reality no one is going to give a rat's ass about it. Plus, this commercials make woman come across as dumb IMO, like all woman love diamonds and they make them look all giddy and sound stupid.. I'm a woman and I have no interest whatsoever in diamonds. If I had a man, I'd want him to use that money to take me on a vacation. A diamond is just a shiny rock to me!

There is one that I didn't like and thought it was kinda lame and I guess they are done aring it.

It was awhile back where they had a woman and a man at home. The guy was on the phone as he told his girl that his friend needs him to vent and to talk.

Then next thing you know, the guy comes to the door and really they are watching a football game then the woman asks him on the phone, everything okay? Guy goes, he needs more time to talk.

Give me a break!! That woman can't be that dumb.

Carl's Jr. has had a few weird commercials. One aired awhile back where people were in a restaurant and didn't know they were eating Carl's Jr. stuff, like a fake restaurant.

Another one where a woman is getting dressed and has a dress on as she comes into the living room and sees the guy still not dressed nicely. Then she asks him something then walks away, he must be taking her to a fast food place. :lol:

It's just that narrator lady's ANNOYING voice that hisses and huffs all the vowels, and the consonants click and clack--the p's and t's are spit out in the mic. It drives me crazy. I don't know why I analyze these commercials like this. I analyze speech quite a bit.

I've seen that commercial too. Very annoying. It's good that you analyze ads. I do too. I worked in advertising for a number of years. It was mostly print advertising, i.e. brochures about travel, neighborhood programs, Logan Airport (the agency owns it). If there's one thing I learned is that, in advertising, everything, and I mean everything, is there by design. Who is wearing a wedding ring or not, music, no music, the painting on the walls, etc. After all, it's a set, and everything was well-thought out beforehand. You'll rarely see a gorgeous woman pitching a cleaning product, as it distracts from the product itself. The knockouts are used for the Revlon ads.

I love studying advertising, especially print ads. When I'm waiting in the doctor's office, I'm rarely reading the articles. I'm thinking of the why and why nots behind the ads, in say, the Poland Springs or suntan lotion ads, lol. :idea:

I have a real issue with all the E-Harmony commercials. I do not like the way women are depicted in those ads. Like they're talking about how they feel as though their lives weren't worth anything without a man....oh, come on! You have a job???? Got friends???? Why this need to have some stupid man in your lives???? The guys are usually portrayed in a much more favorable nature, like carefree and gulible...but the women come off as desperate. And the women usually end up with guys who look like they'd beat them up. And for the woman-hating brownie guy who alleges commercials make men look dumb, well...SUCK IT UP!!!!! Every commercial in the 1950s made women look powerless in the presence of her man!!! Now, we're shoving it back in all your faces that women are more than just your slaves!!! Also, women happen to be alot smarter than men and alot more self-sufficient. The reason behind ads depicting men as brainless bobos and women as superior beings is because men need to be shown that women are the smart ones.

A whole bunch more!!

All these weight loss commercials!! First, the ones featuring that Gillian person from some Los Angeles news show. "How many girls can do THAT?" after catching a football! I'm a guy and I'm offended by that. I'm surprised NOW hasn't threatened to pull that commercial off the air just for that statement. Then the ones with Marie Osmond and Valerie Bertanelli. Okay...let me just say I may be a young dude, but these ladies are H-O-T!!! However, watching them getting verclempt over shedding a few LB's is getting annoying already. Then the one with the annoying lady who reminds me of my 5th Grade Math teacher ("Are you struggling to lose weight?"). Finally, the one where you see before and after pictures of people coming at you onscreen. OH!!! John Whatshisface!!! How could I forget to mention that dude?!?!?!?! The one with the weird build!! I HATE that guy!!! Okay, nothing against people who have weight problems, but GIVE IT A REST ALREADY!!! And how convenient that they always seem to show more of these commercials during the holidays....even during Halloween! Like saying, "Be sure to ask for fat-free/sugar-free candy when out trick-or-treating!"

Away from those, how about pizza commercials?! I hate pizza already and these ads are making me hate pizza even more!!

I know many might think this commercial is adorable, but the ones featuring the sleeping babies while some lady is singing "Silent Night" makes me want to vomit.

All of the lottery ads: First, that annoying announcer dude. Then the little guy with the big head. And the one where people have bubbles over their heads.

FINALLY....all the stupid Walmart ads, where people make it seem like it's the be-all/end-all of stores. Sorry, I prefer shopping for groceries at GROCERY STORES!!! Not to mention their music and DVD department SUCKS!!!! Yet all these people are saying "You know why I love Wal-Mart??? Because (blah-blah-blah...)". Let's keep singing the endless praises of the almighty Wal-Mart so we can all forget about that poor guy who lost his life due to a bunch of overly-zealous holiday shoppers who are buying a bunch of video game systems for their winey little brats that will be broken within an hour or so, aye?!?!?!?!

Any commercial featuring children under age 9!!

AND...the new Christmas ads where they show kids gushing about their favorite presents from their childhood then just as some kid is calling his/her childhood gift "The best gift...ever" they get to the "ever" part and cut to some adult actor who bares zero ressemblence to the kid they're playing as an adult and they cut to a wide shot of said person being excited about getting a new car!! I know getting a new car is exciting for a kid like me, who is just learning how to drive, but for a 30-something?!?!?! These ads corner the market in annoying car commercials!!

BTW, sorry to offend any religious nuts around here, but those "snuggies" make people look like monks!!

The Proactive ads with all these celebrities like Jessica Simpson...now they roped in Alyssa Milano!! OYE!!! I loooove Alyssa, don't ruin her too!! Cannot stand Jessica though.

Skin commercials.

Fast food commercials.

Pizza Hut and Dominoes pimping sandwhiches and pasta...JUST STICK TO SELLING PIZZA FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!!!!

Dunkin' Donuts getting all health concious on us by selling low-carb sandwhiches. Who the hell goes to Dunkin' Donuts for a lowsy veggie sandwhich anyway?!

I just thought of one that's extremely annoying AND disturbing at the same time. The one Febreeze ad where the family is sitting around the house while the dad's apparently cooking dinner and there's this really bad smell. Stupid ad to begin with, but the part where that big guy picks up the cat and holds it against his face to block out the odor really bothers me, especially when the cat meow's like he doesn't like it. I just think the way he picks up that poor cat is so mean. Then at the end of the commercial the cat runs away from the camera and meow's again. That cat is adorable, but I don't like the way he/she is treated in that ad. And that other Febreeze ad with the visiting grandma is beyond pathetic!! All the Febreeze ads suck big time, including the ones that came out a few years ago where they'd freeze on some lady's face who's trying to find out where some odor is coming from.

There's one for some kind of cold medication, or something, and some woman wearing a pair of mini-leggings jumps into a glass of water...and right before she does so they zoom in on this close up of her feet...and those things are NASTY!!!! They look like hobbit feet. All gnarly and stuff. That Verizon one that comes on every ten seconds that's like several minutes too long grinds on my nerves as well, as does the ones for Dunkin' Donuts, NetFlix, cereal, soup, Rosetta Stone, Everest college, financial commercials and all those stupid Geico ads. The stupid cavemen are bad enough, but that gecco makes me want to blow my brains out. The Friendly's ads are pretty lame too, as are the IHOP ones and the TGI Friday's. There are many, but the one which rankles me the most these days is the public service commercial where the boy with the clipboard confronts (either his sister, or friend) about how leaving a phone charger plugged in wastes energy.

I'm all for saving energy, but the dialogue in the commercial. First, the girl in the commercial (April, I think is her name), first says the phone charger isn't hers, then with an impish smile, says that she doesn't even own a cell phone, as the ringtone proceeds to sound and she tosses her cell phone across the room. In this commercial, what's speaking to me isn't the value of conserving energy, but rather that lying and denial is somehow cute. Kind of a commentary on modern American society, imo. The commercial's supposed to be funny, but I think it's a pathetically true reflection of our sick way of life (and I mean sick in the traditional sense).

:rofl: about Wilford Brimley. I DID use his signature line to make my baby nephew laugh: "CHECK IT! CHECK IT OFTEN!!" When my sister and her friends went to see In & Out in the theater over a decade ago, her friend got up and yelled, "IT'S THE OATMEAL GUY!" when Wilford Brimley first appeared in the movie. :lol:

Didnt Wilford also do those IVE HAD DIBEETUS FER 20 YEARS commercials? Those got annoying after awhile. Same with LIPOZENE UGH IM SICK OF LIPOZENE

TV Land using every other network to advertise for their lame attempt at reality television, "High School Reunion"!

Any commercial about children and babies.

Video game commercials.
