Name some things that are defunct and you have vivid memories of.

1. WWOR EMI Service (cable station)
2. www.yesterdayland.com
3. Ames
4. Jamesway
5. NYNEX (a phone company)
6. AZN ( it was an asian cable channel- went defunct circa spring 2008)

OMG I remember Ames  Just barely, but my Grandma would take me there when I was really little.

We also had a grocery store around here called Great American. I don't know if it was a local chain or not, I just know that it's not around anymore, or at least I don't hear of it anymore. My family used to go there all the time.

Daytons. :( I miss that store hardcore. The one that used to be here had a name change - but didn't change anything in the store - to Marshall Fields in about 1999 or 2000, then Marshall Fields closed in June of 2005 and was torn down to build a new Target. The mall the MF was at already had a Target, but it was the old-school Target, and they wanted to relocate & remodel. THAT new Target opened in October of 2006, where Marshall Fields used to stand.

Also, I miss Best. It was basically a catalog showroom store - kind of like Best Buy, in a sense, only not really. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Best_Products The one here closed aggggggggggggggges ago.

Well I figured they might be still around, but wasn't sure. Still loved those things.

They were my favorite toy as a kid. I found one of the newer versions at Goodwill still sealed for $1.99 and was tempted to open it and play it but I sold it on eBay instead.

We had Best here in Ohio - that was my cousin's first job. The building is still around - it now exists as a Value City.

99.9 KISS (later called "Mixx") FM out of Portland Maine. If it wasn't for listening to them in the late 90s I wouldn't be interested in 80s music now.

Orbitz. Those softdrinks with the wax floaties. That drink wasn't as bad as everyone said.

Shiny metallic colored vinyl jackets, 60s inspired mini-skirts and 70s inspired platform sneakers!

Surge. I don't care what people tell me, Vault isn't the same and I don't care if it's manufactured somewhere in Germany! I want it in the US!

Chocodiles, because Hostess is just bending our arms about the whole freshness thing. They just don't want east costers to eat them.

MST3K on Saturday afternoons and repeats on Sunday mornings. Nothing better!

Circuit City (Yes, this place is almost out the door.)
Disney Store (Same here.)

I have to agree on Circuit City. I bought my whole collection of Michael Douglas movies from CC and the service used to be really good when they weren't in debt. I still love the smell of Circuit City and I'll miss it when it's gone.

I don't miss the Disney Store so much as the Warner Bros Studio Store. The WB store was rockin' and I took trips with my mom down to Portland just to go there when I was a kid.

I think it started around the late 40's. A lot of televisions didnt get Dumont, and several of their shows didnt have very good ratings, so by the end of the 50's they were gone. Not too many remember or know about the DuMont network, so I was surprised to see it mentioned here.

Well, DuMont was way before my time, but I have read about it in my TV books.
