Los Angeles (E! Online) – The song remains the same, but the singer...not so much.

Two of the surviving members of Led Zeppelin are ready to get their rock 'n' roll on in the recording studio and finally launch that long-awaited reunion tour. Only don't count on Robert Plant to be adding a whole lotta love on the microphone.

In an interview with BBC Radio, bassist John Paul Jones indicated he and guitarist Jimmy Page are definitely ready to put the band back together, even without Zeppelin's defining voice.

"We are trying out a couple of singers. We want to do it. It's sounding great, and we want to get on and get out there," said Jones.

"It's got to be right," he continued. "There's no point in just finding another Robert. You could get that out of a tribute band, but we don't want to be our own tribute band."

The revamped lineup would also once again feature Jason Bonham filling in for his late father, John Bonham.

No word on who the candidates are, although some fan sites are hyping Myles Kennedy, singer of Orlando-based hard-rock band Alter Bridge. Page previously teamed up with former White Snake leader David Coverdale for 1993's Coverdale/Page—a union that reportedly tweaked Plant so much that he reteamed with Page (but not Jones) for the 1998 album Walking Into Clarksdale.

The Plant camp has remained reticent on Jones' new remarks. But Plant has been shooting down reunion rumors ever since last December's stellar, one-off Zeppelin concert at London's O2 Arena, the band's first gig in 19 years.

Last month, the singer issued a statement on his website saying that after his recent collaboration with bluegrass queen Alison Krauss, he "has no intention whatsoever of touring with anyone for at least the next two years."

"Contrary to a spate of recent reports, Robert Plant will not be touring or recording with Led Zeppelin," the statement said. "Anyone buying tickets online to any such event will be buying bogus tickets.

"I wish Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham nothing but success with any future projects."

Maybe he just can't take one more chorus of "Stairway to Heaven," or perhaps, at 60, he's just too tired to keep rambling on.

I wonder if Plant knows the only reason the Alison Krauss duet album only did so well was because people were in a Zep mood. Outside of a handful of country music fans, I think most people would rather see Plant onstage with Page than with Alison Krauss.

maybe they should get David Coverdale to piss Plant off . Coverdale and Page already worked together in the early 90's.

I'm sure that it was more than a 'handful' of country fans. I haven't heard the album yet and although I like them both, I'm not too crazy about aging singers teaming up with younger stars just to keep their careers from fading into the sunset. I'm not saying Plant did this and I agree that most people would rather see him onstage with Jimmy & John Paul but some people just don't know when to quit especially Willie Nelson who as solo artist will probably never hit the top 40 again on the country charts but team him with someone like Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney, Lee Ann Womack Etc... and he can't miss. I'd bet that Willie or someone representing him is behind these collaborations and he's been doing them for years now. Waylon and Willie was classic, Willie and Kenny Chesney is crap. One rare exception to this was the teaming of Jack White and Loretta Lynn for the song "Portland Oregon" This was Jack's idea and he convinced Loretta to come out of retirement to do it and it was nothing short than a stroke of genius on his part.

I think touring without Robert Plant would be a big mistake on the parts of Page and Jones. Plant was simply too much of what makes Led Zeppelin the band that they were.

well, I know you dislike the band, so you might not be aware of this. But Queen is touring with a new lead singer, even tho the bassist John Deacon wouldn't participate either. I think after the success of Queen + Paul Rodgers, I think Page and Jones will do whatever they want since there are people who'll buy tickets just because of the words Led Zeppelin (much like the abomination of "The Beach Boys" today which is basically just Mike Love).

Personally, I don't see what Plant has to lose, I'd rather see him rock than do country

I respect Robert Plant and if he really doesn't want to do it then I can understand that, that doesn't change the fact that it suX!
