Superman fans raised $100,000 to save the dilapidated Cleveland house where the Man of Steel was dreamed up by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster more than 70 years ago, the Reuters news service reported.
A monthlong online auction sold original artwork and a role on the hit NBC television show Heroes to raise money to save the house.
Novelist Brad Meltzer organized the auction and told the wire service that the sale raised $101,744, more than double the $50,000 goal.
The extra money will allow organizers to fix up not just the outside but also the inside of the Cleveland house, where an elderly couple now live.
