I learned the word Wholesome from Donna Reed

I was 8 when I first started seeing the Donna Reed show-and from this show I definitely learned the meaning of the word Wholeseome.I know this is one of the many words used to describe the show...but I remember seeing an episode of Donna Reed where Mary was called wholesome by her boy friend...and she didn't know weather to feel complimented or insulted.
