View Full Version : Chinese Food: Love it or Hate it?

Who here likes Chinese food? I use to love it as a kid. I use to get excited when my grandparents took me and my brother to Jade Island for dinner. Lately though, I find myself tiring of it. Even if I hadn't had it for weeks. I just don't love it like I use to. Anybody else feel the same way? If you do love it, what is your favorite dish?

I don't hate it, but let's just say I don't prefer it. There is only one restaurant in my city that I will go to and it is a buffet. When I do go there which is probably once a year, I will get the ribs, fried rice, and sesame chicken. That is all I will eat.

I prefer other types of Asian food... Chinese is OK, but I'm not crazy about it. Give me Thai or Szechuan. I like my veggies, meat and rice... SPICY! :)

I feel the same way, I don't hate it, but given a choice, I won't choose it lately. I always seem to order the same things, but lately I have been trying to expirement with different dishes, and I still feel tired of it.

Love it. I hate it though when the restaurant puts the nastiest pieces of chicken in the dish. puke:

I like garlic chicken and chicken or veggie fried rice. I love teriyaki too, even though that's Japanese.

I don't like Thai.

I love Chinese food - we get it all the time on Sunday nights. I prefer the simple stuff, though, like fried vegetable rice and almond boneless chicken. The pepper steak is also good, too. Now that I'm talking about it, I might just get it tomorrow!

Egg rollssss.....

Crab Rangoons are a fried pastry (like an egg roll shell...the soft one) with cream cheese in the middle. I assume there's crab in that mixture, though it's so small that you can't see it.

It's so good. Cathy described it well. The expensive elite Chinese restaurants use a lot of crab in it, which I don't want. I know, it's crazy. I like the cream cheese. Nice and crunchy outer shell. Try an order. I think you'll like them.

They don't have the crab here but they have the fried cream cheese wonton which is good. I always try to get some of that. I love crab though and I wish they had that here.

I like Chinese food but what I really love is Thai.

Unf. I have to watch what I eat in Chinese restaurants now. But there's a great one near me that makes a wonderful bbq chicken breast and broccoli that's just great. And they make a very non- greasy Moo Sho Shrimp.

And they make bbq ribs that are out of this world. I really shouldn't be eating ribs but in celebration of my 21 lb weight loss I did get a small order!

My favorite Chinese dish is orange chicken with fried rice; and, I also enjoy the fried tofu with slices of steamed egg plant (yeah, I know, it sounds, gross) but, it is actually, delicious.

being chinese myself, you're probably thinking it is my favourite. actually, i prefer italian. because i am so used to it being served at home- as my mum cooks it, as well as occassionally ordering it from chinatown, i get bored and try something else.

a lot of the chinese food in the uk i have to say is not only expensive but some of it tastes like crap. it is mostly made to suit the tastebuds of non chinese people. however, there is this one place called cafe de hong kong, just round the corner in london's chinatown, and i have to tell you, the food was really nice. again it is very pricey, but it is a fusion of western and chinese cuisine. it even sells sandwiches! plus the drinks are lovely- last time i visited there with my sister- about 2 months ago, i had a watermelon flavoured beverage but it had ice cubes and little round grass jelly balls in them. it came with this massive straw so when you drink it through the straw, you also eat the grass jellyballs as well. i also ordered a seafood noodle dish.

if you ever visit london, i'd definitely reccomend cafe de hong kong to you folks

I like Chinese food but really cant find many vegetarian choices.. chinese food its all drowned in a brown gravy...which is beef and I cant eat it.. and I Just basically eat the almond cookies if they are veggie friendly....when I was a kid I loved going out to eat chinese food with all the courses and cookies on a big gold or silver platter...still enjoy it but not as much.

That isn't gravy - it's black bean sauce. I don't know about in the States, but here we have lots of Chinese buffets with plenty of veggie dishes offered - the Mandarin is the best - over 400 items on the menu and at least 55% are vegetable based.

I love Chinese, although for Western tastes, you have to watch it sometimes. After eating Peking Duck (which I was sure I'd love) and being disgusted, a buddy of mine told me that I should have ordered it "No beaks, no feet". How the hell was I to know they cook up the ENTIRE duck. Needless to say, it was the last time I've eaten Peking Duck!! ;)

My favourite is Chicken Soo Gai, Yeung Chow Fried Rice and Chinese mixed Vegetables with Almond (with lots of water chestnuts and sprouts tossed in).

And if you're ever in Toronto, hit our Chinatown - it's known as one of the best outside of China (especially the New Years celebrations). We have lots of authentic places here. As I mentioned in a previous post tho, my mom and I went to one once and I was a bit shocked......"shaved jellyfish"! I couldn't figure out if they were particularly hairy fellas or you got pieces of it that looked like tissue paper!

I know what you mean though - some places are BARELY chinese at all - sliced carrots in the mixed veggies? NOT a traditional Chinese item at all! lol

It makes sense that it wouldn't be your favourite. It's like the question "Do they call it Chinese Takeout when you're in Hong Kong?"

I like it but I have to be in a mood for it. I usually try to avoid chicken dishes (since a lot of times it doesn't even taste like chicken) except for this one place at the mall about five mins from me. They have a three meat special with noodles or rice and a drink for $5.99 and some of their different chicken things are excellent, especially the honey chicken and bourbon chicken. Damn, thinking about it makes me a little hungry and it's 12:30 on a Sunday night, not like it's open

But all in all, you have to be in a mood for it I think. Same goes with Mexican or Indian food.
