I thought that the 90's and today were basically the same thing, but when I really thought about it, they are not.....
This thread is for the ways the 2000s are different from the 90's.....
In the 90's, if you wanted to record some songs, you had better pop a cassette tape into your deck and record songs from your radio. today, you can just buy an MP3 player and download songs off of your computer. And it doesn't have to be a few select(like from your radio), it can be any song you want!
In the 90's, the biggest problem with airplanes was the plane crashing down. Now, the biggest problem is a terrorist bombing/hijacking the plane(Septemember 11, 2001).
In the 90's, a VHS was the only way you could watch your favorite movies. Now, they have something called a DVD, which lastes at least 10 times as long as a VHS.
In the 90's, George Bush Senior was the president. today, his son, George Bush JR is the president.
If you were a teenager/in your 20's in the 90's, you are Generation X. If you are a teenager today/in your 20's, you are Genaration Y.

In the 90's, we had Fergie, the Duchess of York
2000's, we have Fergie, the female in the Black Eyed Peas
Also, not as many people had cell phones. Now it seems everybody has them. That only means more annoying people who think their life is so 'fascinating' and need to talk so loud on their phone so the rest of us have to hear your conversation!!

These days the Internet and cell phones are commonplace. There were hardly any (actually none that I knew of) reality shows and TV on DVD was unheard of!

In the 90's, if a 'straight" man did his nails and did his face, and did his hair REALLY nice, he was considered..... GAY. In the 2000s, he'd probably just be called a Metrosexual, which is when he looks as good as his gay friends, but is staright(but just likes to look GOOD).:)

In the 90's there were bascially only three words that stared with "Trans" Transformers,(robots thatturn into machines) Transform, and Transportaion....
In the 2000s, more "trans" were added.... transsexual, transgendered, transvestite, and trans fat.... We are drowning in "Trans"!!!!!!!!!!! Whhen they came up with the term, "Trans Fat," I said, "Oh my god... Not another "trans"...... What the hell is a "trans fat"? I wondered.... Didn't we have enough with "Saturated fat?"
^ In the 90's, Saturated fat was the only "fat" listed in detail on nutrition labels.... In the 2000s, "trans fat" was added to Nutrition Labels.... Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!, those damned Trans Fats!

In the 1990s, NBC Sports televised the Fiesta Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Gator Bowl, and Orange Bowl.
In the 2000s, NBC Sports only shows Notre Dame football.

In the 90's MTV and VH1 only aired music videos.
In 2000s, they aired reality TV shows/Celelbrrity shows such as, 'Paris Hilton's Most Embarrasing Moments! 95 percent of the time. 5 percent is for music video REALLY ealry in the morning or really late, at midnight, and "I Love The 70's/80/s, 90's, 2000s(yes, they even have an "I Love The 2000s" even though we are still in them! )

Um....NO.
Men's fashions and trends from the 1994 til 2004; were absolutely, atrocious. Shaved heads, the goatees, the flannel skirts, the long, baggy pants with the rolled up socks...FREAKING UGLY!
Nowadays, men, are growing their hair out. Skinny jeans, retro belts, Vans. Kinda of a mix of an early 80s influence, with a tad of the "Mod Look".
Women, wow, I have seen a recurrence of a style that was very popular back in the mid-to-late 1980s; black tights, with a loose, or baggy, over sized shirt, drapped with a belt, worn overneath. Very colorful and fun, too.
I perfer the styles, a lot more, than what was popular, a decade ago. It seems that fashion is more imaginative, than compared to the trends, worn back in the 1990s.

In The 90's, the anti-drug campain was "Partnership for a drug-free America"(with some creepy ads, such as a ballerina who is dancing, with a blue-tinted color, then suddenly falls down, and an ad with a girl who drowns in her own room, and Rachel Leigh Cook going berzerk with a frying pan in a kitchen)
In the 2000s, the anti-drug campaign is Above The Influence/My Anti Drug, with only a few creepy ads, such as a two year old getting ready to swim in a pool without any adult supervision), and a teenager trying to outrun a junkyard dog, but mostly lame, like a teenager as a flat picture(or something like that, sitting on a couch(because all she does is smoke pot), and two guys pulling a horse's leg and getting kicked in the neither regions, while the sober guy(a third person) just walks away with a slightly disgusted look)..... The difference between the two ATH and MAD, is that ATH mostly talks about living above the influence of drugs(knowing that pulling a horse's tail is bad news for you),and MAD is what makes you not want to take drugs, such as being a responsible teen and watching your little sister so she does not go into the pool by herself).............

I have to disagree. For the most part, the emo look is very unattractive to me. A lot of those guys would look hotter with short hair IMO. Hell, look at Thomas Dekker on the Terminator series, last year he had emo hair, this year his hair is shorter and spikey, he's much better looking now. Zac Efron looked much better with short hair in Hairspray than he does in the High School Musical movies. Guys look better with short hair IMO.

In the 90's the housing market was good which you can sell your own house and then get into a new house which you didn't have to fix it up and make it look nice
In the 2000's the housing market crashed which was bad. Nobody is buying houses with the housing market being so bad. Now, on TV you have Flip That House, Sell that House, Property Ladder, Moving Up, and etc. Now, you have to fix your own house to make it look nice for the new owner before moving into a new house.

Hate to say it, but the nineties seemed much happier.
The anger level in the environment is way higher now.
:(
But to be honest, things haven't really changed a great deal. The last reasonably big change was around 1980 or so.

The 90's-The Disney Channel WAS The Disney Channel, Cartoon Network WAS Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon WAS The First Kids Network, Local TV Played Cartoons, Sitcoms, and SatAM TV, MySpace was your room, Sega was a Console, Music was good, and the Internet was dial-up.
The 00's-The Disney Channel has no Mickey Mouse Cartoons, Cartoon Network dumped Bugs Bunny, Nickelodeon is The Spongebob Network, Local TV plays only Infomercials, Judge Shows, and Trash-Talk, MySpace is a Webpage, Sega only makes games, Music is sucky, and the Internet is fast-speed.
The 90's were WAY better.

well, we're coming close to an election, there's always lots of fighting around October in an election year
To be honest, I don't see that much of a difference in terms of the anger level, but then I guess it was because I was a teenager in the 90's and when you're a teenager, it's all about angst and the 90's grunge music wasn't exactly upbeat dance music, lol. I would say I'm happier today than I was ten years ago (granted, I'd love to have my mother and brother back, but what can ya do?).

I agree times are very depressing these days , even people with good paying jobs are struggling to make ends meet. I hope things get better.

In the 90's we had John Ritter and in 2003 he passed away. In the 90's The Atlanta Braves went to the playoffs and World Series. In the 2000's The Atlanta Braves are not doing too good to go to the playoffs and World Series.

In the 90's, if you were over the age of 17, and still living at home, you were considered a LOSER!
In the 2000s, with high apartment costs, and high mortgages, the acceptable age has been pushed to about 30..... If you are over the age of 29, and still living at hiome, you are considered a LOSER!
