New fanfic: "Complicated"

small summary before i start: Jinny is 16 years old and, of course, is dealing with a lot of issues in her life. This fanfic is just a random snipit of her life then.

warning: this fanfic deals with the issue of Jinny's sexuality at parts. for all of you who know me, you knew i'd probably do another one. BUT... if you have problems with the issue, please don't read. all others... ENJOY! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif


***JINNY'S HOUSE 1985***
Sixteen year old Jinny Exstead looked at herself in the mirror. She was wearing a new outfit that she had just bought, and was scrutinizing it. Finally, deciding she liked it enough to wear to school, she went back over to her bed and started putting her socks on. There was a knock on her door and she rolled her eyes. "What?" she asked, semi-irritated. She hated being bothered when she was getting ready in the morning.

Casey stood on the other side of the door to his sister's room. He could sense the slight irritation in her voice, but paid no attention. "Um... Beth's here." Walking away, his message delivered, he walked into his own room and shut the door behind him.

Beth sat on the couch in the living room watching the television. She had been Jinny's best friend for 5 years now... had seen Jinny through some rough times... but even she knew when not to bother her. That's why she sent Casey to tell Jin she was here.

When Jinny walked into the living room she saw her best friend watching the tv. "You're here early" she said, as she walked past her into the kitchen. Opening the refrigerator, she wrinkled her nose. 'Why is there never anything good to eat for breakfast' she wondered, and shut the door again. Walking back into the living room, she sat down next to Beth. "I don't want to leave yet. If we do, I'll be bored at school."

Beth smiled. She knew Jinny would say that even before she did. "Yeah.. me either. I just thought I'd come over early. Issues at home..." she trailed off, not wanting to get into it. She had always shared everything with Jinny, but this time the issue between her and her parents was going to stay between her and her parents.

"What's going on?" Jinny asked her best friend. She could tell Beth was agitated about something, and Jinny knew she was good at pressing her for answers... in the most casual way of course.

"Ehh... they're just being weird, Jin, that's all. Nothing big." Beth lowered her eyes, and then quickly looked back at the tv... she didn't want Jinny suspecting anything and pressing her for more. Reaching for the changer, she began flipping through the channels in silence.

'She's lying' thought Jinny, and she frowned. "Ok... I'm not buying the 'they're just being weird' excuse. Spill it." When Beth didn't answer, Jinny sighed. "Alright... you leave me no choice." Jinny reached over to her friend who was extremely ticklish, and started to tickle her. This had all started when they were 11 and had just become best friends... and it ALWAYS got Beth to tell Jinny EVERYTHING. Expecting Beth to start laughing, and give in, she was surprised at what happened.

Beth slapped Jinny's hand away and stood up. "Don't DO that, Jinny!" she yelled, tears in her eyes. "Please... you... you just don't want to do that" she said softer and sat down in the easy chairm wiping her eyes.

Jinny watched her friend with a puzzled expression. What was going on? Sitting back, she wondered if she should even ask, and decided that trying wouldn't hurt. "Why, may I ask, did you just have fit?" Jinny was never good at showing her emotions, and as soon as the sarcastic words were out of her mouth, she regretted them.

Beth stood up and glared at Jinny. 'Should I tell her?' she wondered, knowing that what she had to tell would blow her best friends mind. She decided to, and took a deep breathe. "Well, Jin.... if you NEED to know. My parents basically kicked me out last night... although not physically... because they found out..." she didn't know if she could go on. If her best friend deserted her, she didn't know what she would do. Finally, knowing that she had to finish, she did. "They found out I'm uhm.... gay."

Jinny stared at her best friend for five years in shock. She had never expected Beth to like girls... ever. Her head was swimming and she didn't know what to do. She had so many conflicting viewpoints on the subject right now... which one was right? Finally, snapping out of it, she knew what she had to do. Beth was her best friend. "Hey... it's ok. I don't care." Jinny got up from her seat on the couch and went over to Beth, tentatively hugging her, not wanting to send the wrong signals.

thx guys, here's more:

The entire ride to school, Jinny sat in the passenger seat of Beth's car staring out the window thinking. She still couldn't believe what she had been told this morning and was still having conflicting issues about it... major ones. None of the options she was tossing around in her head, however, had anything to do with her thinking Beth's lifestyle was bad or wrong... there was just a lot of things to think about.

'She hates me' thought Beth as she drove into school in the awkward silence. Finally, not being able to take it anymore, she turned on the radio softly, humming to the music. She knew she shouldn't have told Jinny... she shouldn't have even brought up that she was having difficulties with her parents, let alone have told her she was gay. Sighing, she kept her eyes on the road and hoped they got to school soon.

Jinny was well aware that something was bothering Beth, and she had a pretty good feeling it was her. 'I'm being stupid' she thought once again. But no matter how hard she tried she couldn't shake what she was feeling, and it scared her. It scared her more than it had almost a year ago... because now it could be real. Shivering, Jinny sat up in her seat.

When they pulled into the school, Jinny quickly got out and smiled at Beth. "Thanks Beth. See you in English?" She knew she should stay to talk to her best friend, but she couldn't... not now. Closing the door, she sprinted across the parking lot to the building.

'She didn't even wait for me.' The thought brought tears to Beth's eyes and she quickly wiped them away. "I thought you were my best friend, Jinny" she said aloud to no one. Getting out of her car, she glanced over at the building and saw Jinny standing next to Bobby Fischer.

Jinny smiled at Bobby. He'd always been cute, and she'd been playing hard to get with him for about a week now. She usually waited longer, but today was an extreme circumstance. "Yeah.. I totally agree" she said, referring to what Bobby had just said. Leaning in closer she whispered "Let's skip gym" and then leaned back, smiling.

Bobby stared at Jinny. He couldn't believe his luck. He'd been attracted to Jinny for months now, and when she had finally began paying him attention about a week ago he'd felt like flying... now he felt as if her WERE flying. Smiling back, her replyed "Sure." The bell rang and Bobby took Jinny's hand and led her into the building.

***ENGLISH CLASS***
English was the only class Beth and Jinny had together this year.. oh.. and lunch, but that didn't count. They sat next to each other and constantly passed notes back and forth during class. When the bell rang and Jinny wasn't there, Beth got angry. 'I can't believe she's not coming to class because of me' she thought.

A few minutes later, as the teacher was lecturing, the door to the classroom opened and Jinny walked in. She handed a note to Mrs. Langston, who raised her eyebrows in response to what the note said. Jinny ignored her teacher and kept walking to her seat.

Beth looked at Jinny with a puzzled expression and waited until her best friend got settled, then pulled out the note.

b: what happened? why are you late?
j: i was at the principals office.
b: what?! what for?
j: i skipped gym to make out with bobby fischer and we got caught.
b: wait... but didn't you want to lead him on a little more before you jumped him?
j: i didn't JUMP him. but yes... but i decided not to, ok? just drop it.

Beth didn't reply to Jinny that time, just crumpled up the note and threw it into her backback. She was tired of this attitude already and it was only second period.

Looking at her friend crumple the note, Jinny was shocked. 'I shouldn't be' she said to herself 'I've been acting like a jerk." Pulling out a fresh piece of notebook paper herself, Jinny began to write.

j: look, i'm sorry for being such a jerk today.. i don't mean it, really. and it has NOTHING to do with what you told me this morning. believe it or not, i'm going through issues... big surprise huh?
b: yes, you were being a jerk, but i guess i forgive you. issues? what issues?
j: just things i've been thinking about for almost a year. personal things.
b: okaaaay. i tell you the biggest secret i have and you can't tell me your issues...

Jinny sighed and looked at the note and then back up at the clock. She knew the bell was going to ring any second. Quickly scribbling something down on the paper, she handed it to Beth just as the bell rang. "See you at lunch" she called and ran out of the room.

Beth looked puzzled, but looked down at the note and almost dropped everything in her hands.

Jinny was staring off into space. She'd been in Math class for 15 minutes now and had no idea what was going on... not like she did any other day, but today was different. On one hand, she was glad she wrote what she wrote in the note to Beth... she didn't want her best friend to feel she hated her. On the other hand, however, it was the stupidest thing she had ever done.

After class was over, Jinny gathered up her things and headed towards her locker to drop off her morning books, get her afternoon books, and head to lunch. 'Lunch' she thought, panicking. 'Oh god, I have to see Beth at lunch.' She stopped dead in her tracks, 3 feet from her locker and wondered what to do. When she felt a tap on her shoulder, she whirled around. There stood Bobby, with a smile on his face.

"Hey babe" he said, and leaned in to kiss her, but she backed away. Puzzled, he looked at her. "What's wrong? Am I suddenly not GOOD enough for you?!" he yelled. He was not in the mood for these mind games today... not after getting detention all because of.. her.

Jinny realized what she just did and shook her head. "No, Bobby, I'm just... upset about something. It's not you." she smiled and leaned in to kiss him this time. When she was in the middle of the kiss, Jinny slightly opened her eyes and made out the figure of Beth standing 5 feet away. Closing them again, she deepened the kiss with Bobby and wrapped her arms around him.

Beth saw the whole interchange between Jinny and Bobby. The WHOLE thing... even Jinny refusing to kiss Bobby at first... and then the deep kiss they were in now. Beth was confused and angry. She needed to talk to Jinny about what she had written to her this morning. Deciding to wait it out, she stood there, trying not to look at the make-out display that was going on a short distance away.

Jinny broke off the kiss and smiled at Bobby, who had the biggest grin on his face. "Hey... why don't you come over after school?" she asked coyly. When he responded with a yes, she smiled and gave him a quick kiss this time. "See you later." As he walked away, Jinny watched him and knew she shouldn't have done that. Turning around, she saw Beth standing there with her arms folded. "Hi" she said awkwardly and looked down.

"Hi" Beth said and studied her best friend. She wondered if she should even bring this morning up, but she had to. "Jinny.. about what you wrote... you weren't... lying, were you?"

Looking back up at her best friend, Jinnysmiled slightly. "No. I wasn't lying. I just don't know what to do about it." Jinny's hands were fidgetting and she looked at Beth, waiting for her to respond.

"Umm.." was all that Beth could come up with. She didn't know what to do either. It was a strange situation that couldn't be discussed in the middle of their high school hallway. "Let's just go to lunch, now. And then we'll talk about it after school."

Jinny nodded and headed for her locker, with Beth following. When she opened up her locker, a piece of notebook paper fell out. Picking it up she realized it was the note that she and Beth were writing this morning, but now it had the words "Sicko" written in big black letters across it.

Jinny stared at the note in her hands. She still couldn't believe what she was seeing. Handing the note to Beth, her eyes welled up with tears. She grabbed her books and slammed her locker door before running down the hallway into the bathroom.

Beth looked at the note in her hand and her breathe stopped in her throat. 'Someone knows about Jinny' she thought. She read again what Jinny had written to her this morning: "ok, well, for about a year now I've been thinking that I might like girls.. like you." Beth then saw the big black letters again, and decided to run after Jinny.

When Jinny entered the bathroom it was packed full of girls looking themselves over before heading to lunch... the daily ritual. None of them paid particular attention to her as she went into one of the stalls and started to cry quietly. She listened as they filed out of the bathroom, and when she thought it was safe, opened the door again. No one was there. 'Thank God' she thought, as she looked at herself in the mirror.

Just then a girl walked into the bathroom and stopped dead in her tracks when she saw Jinny. "Hey... you're Jinny Exstead aren't you?" Jinny heard the girl ask. Turning around, she nodded.

"Yeah.. why?" Jinny knew her eyes were still puffy from crying, but at this point she didn't care.

"Because... everyone's talking about you." the girl stated matter-of-factly.

Jinny's eyes grew wide. "They are? Why?" she asked, even though she knew the answer. She needed to hear it from someone else's lips. And she needed to deny it... no matter what.

"Well..." the girl started out when Beth entered the bathroom. Jinny's gaze went from the girl to Beth and back. Jinny was about to say something when the girl just got a random smirk on her face and walked out.

"Damnit!" Jinny yelled and hit the stall door. "What?!" she shouted at Beth, who stood there looking scared and bewildered.

"I.. just.. wanted to make sure you were ok" Beth managed to get out. She realized that she probably shouldn't have come after Jinny in the first place, but there was nothing she could do about that now. Walking over to Jinny, she put her hand on Jinny's arm. "It'll be okay..."

Jinny wrenched her arm away from Beth and stared at her best friend. "Okay?! Okay?!?! Right... I just told you that... so... so that you would FEEL better about yourself!!!" Jinny shouted, not caring who over heard. In fact, she wanted people to hear. "Now everyone thinks I'm a SICK PERVERT.. like YOU!!!" Jinny stormed out of the bathroom and was greeted by a sea of faces. Some girls came up to her, giving her their sympathy.

Jinny didn't know what to do. All of these people had heard what she had said in the bathroom, and while she wanted them to stop talking about her, she didn't want them to talk about her best friend.

When Beth walked out of the bathroom she too, was greeted by the sea of faces, but this time they weren't so welcoming. She barely managed to get past them and run out of the school. 'How could she do this to me?!' Beth was screaming in her head as she ran to her car.

Jinny stood there, taking this all in and feeling like the lowest person in the universe. Her best friend was hurting, and it was her fault. Sighing, she started to walk away from the crowd when she felt a hand on her shoulder. Turning around, she saw Bobby there, a concerned look on his face.

"Don't worry, babe, I'll protect you..." he smiled "Especially after school today..." He leaned in to give Jinny a kiss, but she backed away and glared at him.

"I don't NEED your protection" she said coldly, and walked away, not paying attention to anyone. She still couldn't believe she had done that to her best friend. She couldn't believe she was so self-centered and concerned about herself that she could hurt someone she cared about. Reaching her locker, she grabbed for the canteena she stashed there and took a swig of the liquid inside.

She continued walking until she left the building, carrying her drink, and heading towards Beth's house. She didn't know what she was going to say to her, but she knew she had to say something.

Beth got to her house and slammed the front door behind her. She had been crying the entire drive home. Now not only did she not have the support of her parents, she didn't have the support of her best friend either. 'I was so stupid, earlier, thinking that Jinny liked me' she thought, as more tears poured down her face. She checked her watch. It was only 12:14pm.. her parents wouldn't be home for hours yet. Not knowing what to do, she walked upstairs to her room and climbed into her bed, falling asleep.

There was a pounding on the front door, and Beth sat bolt upright in her bed. Whoever it was was making enough noise to wake the dead. Stumbling out of her room, Beth made it to the front door and opened it. Facing her was Jinny, whose eyes were puffy and who was very obviously drunk. Grabbing her best friends arm, she pulled her inside and slammed the door. "What are you DOING?!" she screamed, as the feelings of this morning came flooding back.

Jinny stood there, looking at her friend. She had cried the entire way over here because she felt so bad. And she had drank the entire way over here too. "I... umm..." Jinny started, but didn't know what to say, she just broke down crying again.

Beth looked at Jinny and wondered what was going on. "Jin?" she asked. She couldn't *forget* about what had happened in the bathroom earlier, but 5 minutes didn't overturn 5 years. "Hey... Jinny??"

Hearing Beth talking, Jinny looked at her. 'How could I have done that to her?' she thought, and started rambling. "Beth I'm sorry I didn't mean to say that this morning in the bathroom and I didn't lie in the note and I feel so horrible and I know you hate me now and you should and I'll just.. go." Jinny took a breathe and walked towards the door, but Beth stopped her.

"Hey.. stop. You're not leaving." When Jinny looked at her, puzzled, she continued. "First off, you're drunk. Second, I forgive you. Third... I like you too." Beth looked at Jinny's expression and laughed. "Don't look so startled, Jinny. Like you didn't know.."

Jinny had to admit that she had a suspicion, but hearing it from Beth's mouth was another thing. "Wow.... wow..." was all Jinny could say. She had a strange smile on her face, as she sat down on the couch. Looking back up at Beth, she didn't know what to do. Now that they had both admitted they liked each other, what was next. "Umm.."

"Yeah..." Beth finished. She was completely lost. What now? Sitting down next to Jinny, she sighed. "What now?" she paused "I mean... do we... I mean.. should we? I mean..."

Jinny laughed at her friend who was obviously having difficulty with words. "Yes..." she answered, not knowing what she was really answering to. "I think... maybe... we should try it." she finally said "but no one would know" she added quickly.

"Of course" Beth said. This was an awkward moment. She looked over at Jinny and was just about to lean in to kiss her when her front door flew open and her father stood there, red faced and angry.

Beth quickly stood up and looked at her father's angry face. She didn't know what had happened, but she was willing to bet it was something he didn't like. "D..Dad?" she sputtered, trying to calm down. He had nearly caught her kissing Jinny.. this was not good.

When Robert came into his house, he was already upset. When he saw his daughter and her best friend sitting on the couch quite close, he was even more upset. "Jinny.. LEAVE!!!! NOW!!!!!" he yelled and watched the brunette get up and stumble slightly towards the door.

"Jinny! NO! Dad, she can be here!" Beth shouted. She needed Jinny there with her. She didn't know what was going through her father's mind, but she knew it wasn't good.

"JINNY!!!! GET OUT!!!!!" Beth's father shoved Jinny towards the door and she stumbled, grasping onto the doorknob. He didn't know what was going on between Jinny and his daughter, but whatever it is, he wanted it to stop.

Jinny held onto the doorknob and turned towards Beth's father. Drunk or not, Jinny wasn't prepared to watch her best friend... and perhaps more... get yelled at by her father, unable to defend herself. "I... I'm staying" she murmered and looked at Beth.

Robert was fuming. Not only was his own daughter making his life hell, her little... best friend was defying him. Finally, knowing it was a lost cause, he turned to his daughter. "Now you listen to me, Beth! I was ashamed enough of you when you told me you were gay, but when I get a call at WORK from your school saying that girls were coming into guidance saying you were HITTING on them, I get PAST my breaking point!"

"It's not true!!!" Beth screamed at her father. Her mind was racing. How could anyone do that to her? How could anyone say that she was doing that? Her eyes were filled with tears as she looked at her father's disbelieving face.

"Now... why don't I believe you?" Robert seethed as he took a step near his daughter. "Get out. Get out.. NOW! And don't come back!" He shoved Beth towards the door and walked away. He didn't want to see his daughters face... didn't want to regret what he had just done.

Jinny reached over and held Beth, who just sobbed. She couldn't completely comprehend what had just happened, and she didn't really want to. "C'mon. Let's go to my house." Jinny took Beth and led her out the door. The scene she had just witnessed sobered her up enough to walk.

***JINNY'S HOUSE***
Jinny and Beth had been there for about 3 hours, just talking. Beth didn't know what to do about where to live or anything. She didn't even want to think about it. All she knew was that the only person she could count on was Jinny.

Looking at Beth, Jinny felt an overwhelming anger for Robert. Jinny had known him for five years. He was never an affectionate man, but he always treated Beth well... until today. Sighing, she sat back on the couch as she heard the screen door slam.

John Jr. walked into the living room to see his sister and her best friend sitting on the couch. He was quite angry because he kept hearing rumors all day about either his sister or Beth and he didn't know what to believe. Now he knew whatever was the truth, it had upset both Jinny and Beth. "Hey" he mumbled and went over to his sister. "I want the truth."

Jinny looked at Beth, and nodded. They had rehearsed this story until they were blue in the face. "Well, someone told me that Beth was... gay. And I believed them for some stupid reason. And so... well, to try and make her feel better I said something referring to me being like that..." Jinny trailed off and looked into her brother's eyes. She knew that if she had told him the real truth he would've thrown her against the wall. "And then someone found the note and I got upset cause it wasn't true... and I went off at Beth in the bathroom and called her all these names... but she's not gay either. Everything was just.. god, I don't know."

John nodded. He figured it was all a big misunderstanding. Everyone knew that Jinny slept around. And Beth had had boyfriends. "Yeah, well, I'll set anyone straight if I have to."

Jinny watched John walk off towards his room and breathed a heavy sigh of relief. "I think that went well" she said, smiling slightly. She knew she'd be an expert at this story by the end of the day. 'Story' she thought 'It's just a story.' No one would ever know what was really going on. Ever.

Casey walked in the front door of his house. He too had heard the rumors circulating around school today, but unlike John he sort of hoped they were true. He had recently come to terms with his own sexuality and he was scared... being 13 and all... and living in this house. If Jinny were even the least bit like him it would make him feel that much more comfortable. When he walked into the living room, he saw Jinny and Beth sitting on the couch watching tv. "Hey Jin. Hey Beth" he said and shrugged his backpack off.

"Hey Casey" Jinny said as she eyed her brother. Had he heard the same things that John did? He didn't look the least bit disturbed if he did. Turning her attention back to the tv, Jinny kept wondering.

Deciding to bring up the subject, Casey shifted from foot to foot. "Um.. Jin... I've been hearing things at school and..."

Jinny cut him off. "It's not true, Case." She didn't have the heart to tell him the whole story because she would be lying to him too much. Jinny loved her little brother and didn't ever want to lie to him, but she knew this time she had to.

Casey's heart fell, but he put on a smile anyway. "Whatever, Jinny. I don't care." He picked up his backpack and headed towards his room when he was almost run into by John Jr. 'Great' he thought and made a face. "Hey John."

"Hey squirt" John replied. "Wanna go out to eat?" he asked everyone "Dad's not gonna be home tonight." John watched his sister, Beth, and Casey for their replies. Both Jinny and Beth shook their heads, while Casey eagerly nodded.

"Where we going?" he asked, his face a mask of excitement. John laughed to himself. Sometimes his brother could be such a dork.

"I dunno.. let's just go... somewhere. You sure you don't wanna come?" He looked for their reaction and got the same one. Grabbing Casey by the shirtsleeve, he wisked him out the front door. "Bye then. Have fun finding something in the fridge." He laughed... they were probably still upset about today. Well, he would fix the idiot who started this crap.

Beth breathed a sigh of relief when John and Casey left. "I thought they'd never leave" she said, laughing. Looking at Jinny, she get nervous. They hadn't even kissed yet. They had been in the house for three hours alone and they hadn't kissed. 'To much stuff to iron out' she thought 'The story... my dad... where I'm going to live... What..' Her thoughts were cut off by a quick sudden kiss on the lips. Startled, she looked at Jinny, who was beat red.

'Oh my God, did I just do that?' kept running through Jinny's head as she studied the girl she was sharing the couch with. 'Yeah... yeah I did' she answered herself in reply. Looking down, she blushed an even deeper crimson. "Um... I didn't..." but this time *her* words were cut off.

A few minutes later, Jinny and Beth were just sitting there looking at each other, not really knowing what was going on, what to do, or anything. They hadn't said anything to each other for the past few minutes, and Jinny doubted they would. Taking Beth's hand she just turned around and started watching tv. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Beth did the same.

***LATER***
Jinny was tired. For some reason her brother's hadn't come home from their dinner and it was 10pm. Yawning, she tucked her legs up under her and closed her eyes slightly. She had yet to let go of Beth's hand all night and she still didn't. They hadn't really said much since they started holding hands, but that was ok with Jinny.

Beth noticed Jinny yawning and getting tired, and she smiled to herself. Within a few minutes, Jinny was sound asleep, still holding on to Beth's hand. Slowly pulling her hand out of Jinny's, Beth got a blanket out of the hall closet and covered the brunette with it. Going and getting another one, she herself curled up on the other end of the couch and fell asleep. 'No need for them to think anything' she thought as she drifted off into sleep.

***THE NEXT MORNING***
"Jinny... Jinny girl, wake up." John Sr. shook his daughter slightly and watched as she stirred. Then, moving on, he went over to Beth. "Hey Beth.. time to wake up." It was a Saturday, so he let them sleep, but it was now 10am and he needed them up before he left. John was at football practice and Casey was at a friends house.

Jinny woke up to find her father waking Beth up. Smiling, she sat up and rubbed her eyes. "Morning" she said, and yawned. Glancing over at Beth, who was now waking up herself, she smiled even bigger. "Hey Beth" she said quietly.

Beth sat up and looked at Jinny. "Hey Jin. Morning." She smiled and stretched. "Hey Mr. Exstead. Where is everyone?"

"Johns at practice and Casey is at a friends house. What do you guys want for breakfast?"

"Bacon and eggs!" Jinny yelled and got up, quite energized. Grabbing Beth's arm, she dragged her to the kitchen table and they sat down. When breakfast was served, they kept giving each other sidelong glances, both wondering what had happened yesterday and what exactly they were feeling today.

John Sr. looked at his daughter and her best friend. He was noticing the glances they were giving each other, and if it had been any other morning he would've completly ignored them. But yesterday John had gotten a call at his work informing him of some of the things that were floating around Jinny's school. Deciding that he wouldn't jump to conclusions, John went to get changed. "Ok girls, enjoy breakfast. I'm going to change and then leave."

Jinny watched her dad walk out of the kitchen door, then turned her attention back to Beth. Feeling her hand being held, she looked down. "Beth.. my dad..." she started, worrying about getting caught.

"Hey.. he's getting changed" whispered Beth. "Besides, I never got to kiss you goodmorning yet." Leaning over the table, Beth brushed her lips against Jinnys just as they had the night before.

John Sr. had forgotten to tell Jinny something. Walking back into the kitchen, he stopped dead in his tracks as he saw his daughter and her friend leaning across the table locked in a kiss. "Jinny.." he whispered, trying to sound calm.

Jinny quickly broke free of Beth and stared wildly at her dad. She couldn't believe he had caught her. Well, yes, she could, she was worried it would happen. "Dad... " she started, the tears welling up in her eyes. "I..." she stopped and noticed Beth getting up and running out of the room, slamming the front door behind her. Jinny couldn't move... couldn't even go after Beth.

That was the last time Jinny saw Beth. She never even had the chance to say goodbye. A few hours later, she had gotten a call... Beth was dead. Jinny cried for days. Her best friend... no, more than her best friend had been murdered. John Sr. never brought up that day and what he saw ever again... he couldn't... it would've destroyed Jinny. The police had found the murderer... 16 year old Robert Fisher... aka Bobby. Since he was young, he had gotten off light, too light....

Jinny sat in her living room reading the day's newspaper. The headline read "Robert Fisher up for Parole." Underneath that there was a picture of Bobby and of Beth. A tear ran down Jinny's face. 'I'm going to be at your parole hearing, Bobby... and you're NOT getting out.'
