Carlton Your Doorman was an Emmy-award winning animated television special starring the (previously) unseen doorman Carlton from the sitcom Rhoda. As on Rhoda, Carlton's voice was provided by Lorenzo Music.
It was actually a pilot for a weekly series which never materialized. The show aired on CBS May 21, 1980 (right after the Chuck Jones special Bugs Bunny's Bustin' Out All Over).
It was revealed in this animated special that Carlton was a relatively young man, with shoulder-length blonde hair & mustache.

I've heard that, but I never saw it. :( Of course, Lorenzo Music DID go on to achieve cartoon voiceover immortality later on in the decade:

Yeah, he was also the voice of Bill Murray's character in the Ghostbusters cartoon.

You're right, I'd forgotten that!! How ironic that Bill Murray would voice Garfield in those (UNECESSARY) CGI flicks after Lorenzo Music passed on?

This is surprising-lol A cartoon based on a character that was never seen at all on a show that was cancelled 2 years before the premeire of the cartoon on CBS? HUH???-lol

That's very cool! God, I haven't thought about Carlton the Doorman in YEARS! I didn't realize that he had done other voice overs AND the voice of Garfield! Thanks for the info!

Plus, Lorenzo Music and his wife co-wrote "Home to Emily", the theme song from the Bob Newhart Show. A man of many talents.

Yep...out of curiosity, I'd like to see it as a bonus if there ever is a Rhoda DVD (and really, they could come out with it NOW, as Season 4 of MTM was the end of Rhoda's stay there)
Also notable to me is that there's yet another rare MTM logo variation attached to this program. Which would be great to see in itself.

I remember this show vaguely - I do remember watching it and knowing it was supposed to be a series after this special aired. WOW! Back in those days, we didn't have 1,000 channles of cable TV to choose from - just three networks, so I guess this was the "best bet" for the night and that's why I tuned in! I can't explain it any other way!

And now that the Rhoda DVDs are coming, let me repeat my want for the Carlton cartoon to be used as a bonus feature!
"Come on, say meow..." (Silence) "Damn cat..."
