Please Remember not to buy any more seasons of the shows you love. I don't think anymore Fans should be ripped OFF like some of us already have by purchasing the individual seasons on DVD only to find out that Sony comes out with a series set for a show that is already out there and the total price for that series set ends up being a lot cheaper for each season.. Good Example of this, Sanford and Son.
So I think it's good to just wait and not buy anymore individual seasons as tempting as it would to see a season 3 release of Diffrent Strokes or season 7 realease of the Jeffersons, since we know that Sony has every intention of releasing a series set of those three shows too once they are complete, it's just better to not even waste your money until the Series set comes out.

You'll be waiting a decade then to get it for each of those. They are moving on a snail pace in those series, unlike Soap, Good Times, Sanford & Son, and What's Happening, which were released quick and will/have complete series sets out.
Shows like Facts of Life, Jeffersons, Diff'rent Strokes are no where near complete on DVD and if you want to wait for a complete series set, you'll be waiting until 2018, lol. Plus you're not helping in making these season sets come out faster by not buying them. Those series that came out quick, like those I mentioned, sold very well. Not a good point, Solomon at all.

Well I guess I have to wait because I no longer want to feel like a FOOL like I did when the series sets of Sanford and Son and the Cosby Show were released. I also decided to hold off on buying anymore seasons of Gomer Pyle since it;s complete on DVD and see if CBS paramount does a series set

I understand both sides, but honestly I would be very happy if they went ahead and released a complete series of "The Jeffersons" and wouldn't think twice about the money I paid for seasons 1-6. Especially if Sony is expecting the sales of seasons 7-11 to taper off anyway.

They do suck with bonus features. I was really excited when I first heard about the season 1 release because I thought it would include interviews with the cast members, and now several of them have passed away between the release of seasons 1-6, and those cast members would have offered invaluable insight into the making of the show (especially Isabel Sanford), and two seasons were released before she passed away.
And I know that Isabel loved talking about her time on "The Jeffersons", and wouldn't have thought twice about recording bonus features.

Yes there were no bonus features on none of the Jeffersons releases so I don't expect any of the other seasons to be any different

Solomon, that's really not a good idea. If you enjoy a show as much as you obviously do The Jeffersons, you should buy the season sets as they come out (IF they come out-LOL). Besides, with a show like The Jeffersons, that ran 11 seasons, a complete series set may not come out. Sony only seems interested in releasing cheap complete series sets for their shorter series that are complete. Think - Soap only ran 4 seasons, WH only ran 3, Good Times and Sanford and Son ran 6, and NewsRadio ran 5.

I guess it will just take me a long time to buy any more individual seasons because I just felt like Sony slapped me in the face when they came out with the Series set of Sanford and Son and WH. Its just not right and it would be more of me not wanting to let Sony take advantage of me again instead of me not supporting the Jeffersons by refusing to purchase new season releases of the show.

Just trying to figure out why so many people felt Sanford and Son was more appealing than the Jeffersons. S&S has beat the Jeffersons in the black community, when it comes to DVD sales, and on TV Land. I'm confused again-lol

I was going to say the same thing, those complete series sets by Sony are terrible. They are the exact same discs that were available separately, on a single cheap plastic spindle. I'd hate trying to look for an episode in that mess.

Yeah, I don't get it either. I never found SAS intersting - The Jeffersons ran longer, but it hasn't done as well on DVD or in syndication. The Jeffersons had the better characters, the better writing, the better everything.

They are very cheap, but they are very affordable if you don't have the series on DVD already. I just wish they could do a better job of keeping the seasons and episodes seperate - everything is os jumbled in those sets.
What I really can't stand is the lack of episode guides in those series sets - how the hell am I supposed to find an episode in a set like that?

The complete series set of What's Happening is at amazon for $46.99, but Wal-mart sells (or at least WAS selling) the individual sets for $12.99 each. Buying them separately at Wal-mart would be $38.97

At least Sony doesn't add bonus features on a complete series set that aren't available on individual season sets. Also once a season set is out for awhile, it could be bought really cheaply on ebay or what not. Probably all seasons of the shows you mentioned would come out about the price of the complete series set. The Sony complete series set holders are terrible anyway. It's not worht it to me unless you don't own all seasons.
To me it's a bigger slap in the face when the complete series set has new special features.

That's how I felt when I bought individual season sets of I Love Lucy and then bam! They come out with the complete series with a new bonus disc.:mad:It's a travesty to the fans. I have the old shows like WH, S&S, and Soap there's no new bonus features so I don't have to buy the complete sets since I already have the season sets. I may wait on AITF and The Jeffersons I bought the individual releases. Supposedly they're going to do the same for Bewitched too.

Oh God, I hate this! It took me a while but I finally acquired all 9 seasons of Seinfeld and those are loaded with extras (even Easter Eggs!), but I was kind of bummed when I found out that the complete series has extras on top of extras! However it doesn't make me want to rush out and buy the entire thing. I guess I could consider it but I kind of like having each season separately. All I would really want to do is see the extra stuff I missed by not having the entire set. Because really the main reason in even buying the DVD's is to see the actual episodes!

If you're genuinely looking for something, it's better to go to WalMart.com and use the Site to Store shipping method. They ship your product free to your local store, and you can pick it up in the customer service dept in the back of the store. They email you when it's arrived and everything. It's pretty cool. And if your local WalMart is out of stock on something, it's a reasonably quick way of getting it.

I don't get what all the fuss is over complete series sets. I can't stand them. I wish studios had never thought of releasing them in the first place. Not only that, but even with new material, why buy it? I know what you ean - for example, the house-style sets used for Full House and Everybody Loves Raymong. The Full House box is way too tall to fit on my shelf, and it sicks out too much. Same goes for the Raymond set. Season sets seem more normal to me, even though the series sets usually include new material - I just basically tell myself to ignore the new material and love what I have.

I agree with you 100% Jude. Also, buying sets separately gives me more time to enjoy the different releases in their own right. I bought the complete series of "I Love Lucy" and haven't watched a single episode yet. In a lot of ways, complete series sets can be overwhelming, and I think that's what's happened with me and Lucy. 20+ DVDs of any series is too much!
I've watched all of the episodes of the Jeffersons on DVD (seasons 1-6). When/if season 7 is released, I can enjoy those as well and not have to worry about 8,9,10 and 11 sitting there in front of me, too. Honestly, there is no way in the world I could sit down and watch 11 seasons of a tv show without needing professional help.
Another example, Time Life will be releasing the complete series of "The Real Ghostbusters" cartoon on DVD in November. The set is over $150, but I can't justify buying it because 1: it was a tv show I watched when I was a child, so who knows how it's held up over the years, 2: I remember the show, but not well enough to want to own 25 DVDs of it, and 3: What if I get the set, watch a few episodes and realize that the show didn't hold up well and I want my money back.
Too many ifs come into play when complete series sets are released.

If Sony was to release a series box set of Diffrent Strokes I would buy it in a instant. Then I would watch the episodes that I have not scene since I was in grade school. Sony is a big disapointment. I want more Diffrent Strokes on DVD Sony?!
Also Warner sucks too! Release Growing Pains season 1 on DVD but thats all we are going to get because the set did not sell very well.Think you Warner.
Also Hit has disapointed me too by not giving the fans the last volume of Fraggle Rock "No we are going to do a complete series box set instead and charge people $100 or more to buy it" Nice.
I'm so glad that shows like Three's Company and The Greatest American Hero was released by Anchor Bay. Because I have a feeling if Three's Company was a Sony release all we Three's Company fans would probably only have season 1 and 2 sitting on are shelfs?

I feel the same way, especially if it's a show I haven't seen in years. There are very few shows that I would buy a complete series set of right off the bat. One of them would be "Gimme A Break" because I know I'd buy all season eventually. Another would be "Star Trek" (TOS) if one was released that was reasonably affordable. Right now I can't even afford one season set (retail) of that show.
Once I get a DVD set I feel like I need to start watching right away. With a complete series it wouldn't be reasonably possible for me to sit through a whole series. I just don't have time. I want to savor the episodes and not feel like I have to rush to finish the set. Also there may be a reason I'd stop buying after a certain season. I MAY buy all seasons of "The Jeffersons" if they're released, but so many episodes at once isn't worth chancing. I even considered stopping buying certain seasons of "Diff'rent Strokes" so too many seasoned shows aren't worth a complete series purchase to me. Those with say three seasons or less are probably the bets bet for me.

"Hardcastle and McCormick" might be a pretty good example. I finished all three seasons' worth of that series from 1983-86, and I enjoyed all three of them. VEI of Toronto, Canada did very well with the releases also-- there were a couple of minor edits along the way (relating to the opening titles, I believe), but it was otherwise very good. I even considered stopping buying certain seasons of "Diff'rent Strokes" so too many seasoned shows aren't worth a complete series purchase to me. Those with say three seasons or less are probably the bets bet for me.
You are right about that because I wouldn't buy season 1 of Diffrent Strokes

Very good point about Three's Company - I think I've heard before that it was Anchor Bay's best selling series of all time. But, if it was being released by Sony, you're right, it would be the complete opposite. It would probably be like The Jeffersons - a season a year.

I think that you'll enjoy it.
I may have watched this when it aired, but if I did I don't remember it. I'm kind of angry at VEI right now for what they're (not) doing with "Gimme A Break" and really don't want to buy anything from them. I guess that kind of falls under the boycott category, but I'm really mad at them for holding up one of my all time favorite shows.

I made the mistake of getting the first season and after I watched it I thought to myself "Why did I buy this?" lol. The second season wasn't much better. I hope the third gets released soon.

Yup, season 3 is when the show picked up steam and then the wheels fell off at the end of season 6

And here I thought that VEI was a pretty good DVD releaser, based on what they did for "Hardcastle and McCormick" and "Riptide." What are they not doing with "Gimme a Break" that makes you mad at them?

I quite figured that. FOX is doing much the same thing to us "St. Elsewhere" and "Hill Street Blues" fans by not releasing S2 of the former or S3 of the latter.
Sony is also doing the same thing with "Hart to Hart" by not releasing #3 of that one.

Yeah, I also wish VEI would go ahead and release Season 3 of "Gimme a Break!" considering it is one of the best seasons too. Same with "Hart to Hart". Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers were on Graham Norton recently and that was a question all of the fans all over the world wanted an answer to. Graham Norton joked about it but it was obviously on their minds.

Its to bad that DVD did not come out 20 years ago.Can you imagine what TV shows would of been released on DVD if the format came out in the 80's? When all these shows the studios ignored was popular. We Would must likely have The Complete Diffrent Strokes and many other shows we want so badly. And ALF would of got treated with respect.Uncut episodes of ALF with Out of This World special features.Yeah hard to believe it was over 20 years ago when ALF merchandise was selling all over the place.Imagine how well ALF DVD sets would of sold 20 years ago. I know I'm living in a fantacy. Lets face it the shows we once love are not as hot as they use to be.Thats sad. All the old shows are still hot for me. I would mutch rather watch shows like Webster then some of the garbage that is shown on TV today.
Webster? That's another show I would like to have on DVD.

Now that I don't know. I was also surprised that Webster lasted until 88, I didn't even know it was still on when I was about to start highschool

Paramount.
I called the Sony number and this is what they told me:
I asked about the releases that they do. They told me that it does take a long time for a season to make its sales back to them. That's why you see continued releases a year or two years down the road. They also said that if one season didn't sell well, why put a lot of production into the remaining seasons?
Sadly, this show and others like "The Facts of Life" and "All in the Family" do not have any future release at this time. So what we have to do is to get more people to buy the seasons that are already out for them to break even or make sales good enough to release more seasons.
This is why they release current shows on DVD because they are sure to sell and people who missed the season on TV will be sure to buy them. This pushes promotion for these shows on the networks that air them. But for past or classic shows, they will not invest in them until they see some decent returns for ths stuff that is already out there. They claim that their classic shows do NOT sell as well as the current ones so they don't bother in continued releases. I said "so basically crap like Seinfeld and all that can get re-released like crazy and stuff", and they said "Yes because it's a popular title and people still buy the releases. We're not going to keep putting out seasons on what we THINK might make money because that would constitute a LOSS for us".
So SONY is actually a REACTIVE company with their classic stuff and highly PROACTIVE with their current stuff. They have to sell more than a few thousand copies on the seasons (50,000 to be exact) of a show they do have in order to release more seasons. So people, BUY MORE CLASSIC SHOWS AND LESS CURRENT SHOWS. That'll teach them.
And it will show them that we do care as much about the classic shows as we do the current shows.

Its disapointing to know that we will never get the rest of Diffrent Strokes and Facts of Life on DVD. I dont understand why they cant license the show to another studio? Like Universal did with Charles in Charge.
It just ticks me off! I want all the remaining seasons of Diffrent Stokes for crying out loud! I'll even buy The Sam episodes even thoe that was my least favorite season. Its just sad.

I wouldn't say never. Things change at studios all the time. There's also a lot of things going on behind the scenes that aren't publicly known. So it's always best to keep hoping. Shows once considered abandoned have gotten second chances-Barney Miller, Partridge Family. Some of them had more seasons released-The Jeffersons. Remember there's only a finite number of current & recent shows on the air. Eventually they're going to either release or license out older shows.

In Diffrent Strokes and Facts of Life case I can understand the FREEZE on more releases because they only have made it to the 2nd and 3rd season, but in the case of the Jeffersons, who has 6 seasons out why would you stop now? That's more than half of the seasons released than the number of total seasons for the show . So it defintely should be more releases.

I think what people have to understand is that once a studio releases a show or season onto DVD, they wait until they earn the amount of money they wanted to from the set until they release another one.
So, until Diff'rent Strokes season 2 or Facts of Life season 3 can sell enough copies for Sony to reach their profit goal, then another season will be released. The only problem with that is they probably have their goal extremely high for these shows, since the first seasons must have sold high for them to put out another one.

I agree, since the sales of season 1 led to a season 2 relase, Sony Expectations was the same as it was when season 1 was first released. That's probably how everything is measured

Exactly. Since season of Diff'rent Strokes must have sold a lot of copies in a short amount of time, they expected season 2 to do the same, and it's a well-know fact that subsequent seasons just don't sell as well as the first and last seasons of a show normally do. But still, they need to lower their goals and continue releasing. Maybe if they'd release more seasons, people would be more inclined to buy them.

I'm also disapointed that Warner dumped Growing Pains on DVD.I have a season 1 set of Growing Pains sitting on my shelf looking very lonely. I'm also dispointed that we have yet got a WKRP season 2 set from FOX.FOX probably got scared away from all the complaints about the music being replaced. Me on the other hand loved the season 1 set of WKRP.Yeah I know it was disapointing that the music was changed but still the episodes looked great and apart from the music changes must of the episodes was uncut. And I would buy the rest of the show if FOX ever releases them? But FOX may not because of the complaints or there just to busy fighting with Warner?
Its just upsets me that I cant get the shows that I love on DVD. I guess I should be happy thoe I did get my number 1 favorite sitcom on DVD Three's Company,so think you Anchor Bay for that. And I have all the I Love Lucy episodes,The Andy Griffith Show episodes,The Brady Bunch, and Punky Brewster. I guess I'm just spoiled.I always want more. I have always been that way.

You're not the only one with season 1 sets on your shelf - most of my collection includes lonely season 1 sets-LOL
I just hope Sony eventually changes its mind and releases the remaining
