Although I haven't been posting here too much over the last year or so, I've always felt fond of this place since joining. I was thinking over today about why I felt that way about this site and came up with several things/reasons:

1: The website is very well-run and laid-out, very neat and uncluttered.

2: I think the website tends to remind of the period when I first joined (December 2004) which was quite a good time for me, so it makes me nostalgic in a happy kind of way.

3: There's a strong sense of community here which is nice to witness.

4: SO has a really cosy, comfortable feeling for me. Like it would go well with a bath, a good book, hot chocolate and...Murder, She Wrote! Cosy and comfortable are the words I would use to describe MSW, despite the fact that people are murdered in every episode.

Kind of a comfort zone, considering I've been here since I was 13

i suppose just staying in touch with people i've talked to through the years...if everyone were to leave and a whole new set of members came in, i wouldn't see any point in staying. plus it's a friendly place, not many trolls come around here anymore.

The variety of topics, the cool pix, the opinions expressed (both those that I
agree with and the ones I disagree with) ... but most of all the camaraderie
among the members. It's an oasis where you can go to talk about virtually
anything that's on your mind. A friendly place. A "comfort zone."

Most of all, it's where I met a lot of great people over the years. Even ones I don't really talk to much, it's good to see them around and posting. SO is kind of like my home on the internet, no matter how much or how little I might post. Originally I came here JUST to discuss classic TV shows and stuff like that, but over the years you run out of things to say. It's the people that keep me coming back.

Plus, I've been posting here for 6 years...So it's pretty much just home, period. It's a part of my daily routine, even subconsciously.

OH Nuts!

That there are some very nice people here, and you can find other fans of those shows you're particularly fond of.

the people i'd say. no trolls and people seem to respect others opinions even if they're different from their own. i like comin here because i love my certain fav, tv shows but have no one in "real life" to share those interests with. they either think your weird or have no life if you want to discuss tv shows in depth and know every factoid or trivia bit about them. its fun to disect the inner workings of a show with the other posters here. but chit chat is my fav. part of s.o. cause we all get to shoot the breeze and its really where we come togetehr as a "family" wishing each other happy birthdays, cheering each other on and supporting each other.

I like the fact that I've met a lot of nice people here, and even though I don't know what 99% of them look like I still enjoy reading everyones thoughts, opinions, etc. about TV shows, movies, etc. plus I can post my thoughts and I pick up things about TV shows and movies that I never knew.

Basicly, I just like "talking" to people and reading what they have to say. Since I can't get around much.

Also, I met my good friend Lauren (LuLu Rogers) on here!!!:)
Now if only she'd answer my P.M.s:(

I like the fact that you can voice your opinion and nobody judges you, well there is an occasional disagreement but you don't get shunned for your opinions. I also like this site because I feel that the people here are genuinely honest, nice and easy to talk to. This is a great place to come to when I am bored and I can escape and talk about my favorite shows and music with other fans. And another thing a few of you may know this already but I actually meant my boyfriend on this site, he was the only other person on here from my state at the time, so we started talking. The we found out that we lived only 2 towns away so we thought why not meet so we called a few friends to come with us and we had a group meeting and we have been dating ever since 2004 but we have talked on here 2 years before that. So I give this site allot of credit for that.

That's really sweet JoPol! :)

A question...SO is quite a large site, how "famous" is it in the world of the Internet?

There are some sites that a lot of people know about because they're so large/used by so many people - practically everyone knows about Wikipedia (obviously). I think the Something Awful website is well-known too. Myspace/Facebook are well-known for obvious reasons. There are other forums that a lot of people on the Internet seem to know about.

Considering its size and the multitude of message boards here, I would have expected SO to be a bit more well-known than it seems to be, but maybe not?

IMDB is another very well-known internet site. And so is YouTube.

About this site, I actually don't read about it a lot on other sites. When I found this site, I found it by chance, searching for "Parker Lewis can't lose", I think.

You can go to just about any TV show you're interested in, past or present, and you're immediately made a part of a community of people who like the same things. But there's still room for friendly disagreements about shows, or certain aspects of shows.

I also like the email notifications when replies are made. These are very important to keep the threads going.

I like the fact that other forums were added to cover basically anything and everything anyone wants to talk about... TV Shows, Movies, Sports..and oh, yeah...politics :)

And of course, the nice people that post here regularly (and some not so regularly) make it a fun place to hang out. I really love reading other people's opinions on things (for example, the "Letters to the Editor" is just about my favorite part of any newspaper), and having discussions about them... SO is a great place to do that.

It can also be quite educational... even though there's very little that's less important in the world than TV Shows, it's STILL fun to learn interesting trivia and behind the scenes stuff about one's favorite shows and actors/characters.

And, because of the posts from the good people here at SO, I've also "discovered" a lot of good TV Shows/Movies that I might otherwise never have watched .

Stuck In The '70's

SO has been my home away from home the last 8 years. I had always been interested in the history of tv shows and especially sitcoms. When I first found SO in 2000 it was like I was in sitcom heaven. Since that time SO has really expanded. I didn't even join the message boards until 2003. I guess what I like the most about it is talking to the different members about a variety of topics especially tv and sports. And of course I met a lot of friends on the boards throughout the years. They are the ones that make me want to stay. I love the layout of SO...it's very easy to navagate and I love the photo galleries. I guess by and large SO is the best website on the internet if you want to learn about sitcoms. I just wish sitcoms weren't an endangered species these days...I often wonder what it would have been like if they had a SO back in the 1970's when sitcoms were really hot.

I like the people here. There are some great people here at SO. First, there is a terrific moderator in Janice. You can always talk to Janice about anything. Irene is another great person to talk to. There are my FOL pals like Kelly, Autumn, Meghan, Brandon, FactsFan and LoveMrsG. There are wise people like Tara and Sonny. There are fellow 70's babies like Monika (also a lady with amazing taste in music and a kind soul), Jenny (a girl with a really big heart) and the lovable Cathy. There is fellow Martina fan, Michael and the crazy but adorable Lauren. You just can't beat the people here. :)

even though this is a site dedicated to US shows, sitcoms especially, i've always felt welcomed here and being able to discuss american tv shows that not a lot of british people watch themselves or are of whom are familiar with. i am a big fan of classic american sitcoms and cartoons- those are my two favourite types of tv shows and i enjoy discussing them on here. actually, i am more familiar with american shows than i am with the ones in my native uk, as i tend to prefer watching american tv.

it's not just the fact you can discuss sitcoms but a range of subjects and topics in the chit chat, movies and music boards, plus it's great that people on here have something worthwhile and interesting to say. there are hardly any trolls or people being rude and abusive, well if there were, they'd be banned from this site anyway. and the members on here are very polite and well mannered, although on ocassions we do get off on the wrong foot.

it's also great that we get to share our knowledge and understanding of tv, film, music and general trivia- its not really about showing off but educating others and learning about things we never knew ourselves.

another thing that is great is that whilst the SO community is predominately american, the US members such as monika, ann, TJL, TJ, brian, janice, solomon, tv star collector and irene to name but many haven't had a problem in welcoming overseas members to the site, such as myself, furienna, claire (coffield) and making us feel at home here.

this is one of my favourite sites and i'm very glad to have stumbled across it by chance :)

The people on here are awesome; there are a few that I've gotten into *friendly* arguements with, including Solomon! (I think you're cool, Solomon--it would be a little boring here without you!) Also, I like seeing the personal photos that members post now and then--it's nice to see a face to go along with the "voice".

I don't know; I just feel comfortable here. This is the only site I regularly post to. There must be something to it; after all, I've been with SO over two years now! We all come from different backgrounds, ages, states, countries, and regardless of our differing opinions about things, the peculiar quirks of our individual personalities, we basically care for one another like a family and are accepting of one another. (I'm realistic enough to know that's not always the case), but in general I've found that to be true. Most of the time, for example, I choose not to 'get into it' with people, especially on the Politics Board. I'd rather keep my relationships here positive, and stay tolerant of others' points of view, even if I disagree with them at times, or they disagree with mine. Everyone's different, and that's a healthy thing as far as I'm concerned, as long as exchanges are mutually respectful. As my uncle used to say, "If everyone liked vanilla ice cream, where would the chocolate be?"

Lastly, the one thing we all have in common is TV. Like any other diversion, it can be misused and wasteful of time, but I've always enjoyed TV for its entertaining and educational value. I grew up with the first sitcoms in the 50s and 60s, and in addition to being funny, many of these shows helped to some extent also shape my values in a positive way.

So, what is it exactly that I like about SO? A comfortable place where I can go to, where I have friends who are nice, and who all like TV, as I do--and who have opinions and interests and everyday lives and struggles like me.

I would have to agree with what everyone else has said, the people. I've met some great friends thanks to this site. Leigh Ann, who co-mods the MTM board w/ me, doesn't post here much, but she's become one of my best friends. Plus you've got great people here like Monika, and all the other MTM regulars. I like the fact that everyone basically gets along. I know there are arguments from time to time, but it's still better than a lot of places.

Well in all honesty, I found this site by accident. I moderate (well, I am a moderator) two different Seinfeld boards, neither of which see much action. In fact I've only deleted one thing since 2005 when I joined the Seinfeld board, and that was when it was noted that someone had posted Spam.

Anyway, I was getting really frustrated because heck, I wanted to talk "Seinfeld"! There's nothing worse than wanting to discuss something and having no one to do it with! So I did a search online and found this board.

WOW! I was totally floored at how big it was! Every show imaginable, plus games, fan fiction, non-TV show talk... EVERYTHING! It was a goldmine!

I have to admit that at times I am a little disappointed that the Seinfeld section doesn't get as much attention as say the "I Love Lucy" board, but since I found the "search" features and have been able to pull up the newest searches as well as look for certain things in posts, I've found a lot of stuff about my favorite show!

Rarely have I witnessed any bashing between posters and I find that I can find lots of things to discuss even with shows that I don't like.

I'm sure you all have noticed that I have 800+ posts within only a few months. Yep, I'm crazy. This board is so addicting, though. It's hard to stop for long!

I really love it here and wish I would have known about it a few years ago!

I like that there are threads for the classic TV shows I dig.

I like the other threads in the chit chat section.

I like it here that people are respectful towards one another, and we people dont agree on something, they dont start screaming and calling each others names like what I have seen on other forums.

One thing I want to do is to get to know yall better. :)

When I first joined SO, posting on threads, and sharing my little thoughts and ideas was my main purpose for being here. As time has gone on though, (especially in the last few months) it has become more about staying in contact with friends, and making new ones. I use to come here thinking, "I wonder what new threads are up today?", Or, "I wonder what people's responses to my messages are?" But now my first thoughts are always stuff like: "I wonder who sent me a pm today?" Or, "I wonder who I'm going to pm today?". Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy posting and all that, but the friendships Iv'e made here, and doing my best to establish them, has become far more important to me now!!

Concerning the UM board, I think its great that a lot of diehard fans can come together and discuss these cases that we've watched for years. We have had so many relatives and friends of people profiled on UM post, even a few that appeared on camera and some that are suspects in violent crimes actually post on the board! Its amazing when you're discussing a case and posting your thoughts on a particular individual and you never know....that person may just start posting.

I just joined last month myself, and so far I like the friendships that exist among the members of this board, plus the fact that you can chat about anything besides our favorite sitcoms. I found that I have quite a bit in common with many people on here. Also like the opportunity to share our laughs, tears, and burdens.

Hopefully, I have made a few friends here already and look forward to making more in the weeks and months ahead.

I also welcome PMs and e-mail from anyone on this board.
