I can't believe they have to disrupt 8 Simple Rules and not Sister Sister. I mean, why does a show need double airings? I also wish Gilmore Girls would be placed elsewhere. You have a whole line of comedis and then GG.
If I ran the network, it would be;
1pm - Gilmore Girls
2pm - My Wife and Kids
3pm - The Fresh Prince of Bel Air
4pm - What I Like About You
5pm - 8 Simple Rules
6pm - Grounded for Life

That wouldn't be fair to My Wife & Kids, since it is new. Gilmore Girls does well for them in the evening.

I agree, 6pm-8pm looks so boring now. It was great with 8SR/GFL, I watched that block almost daily. I'm especially szad about 8SR - it's just become so residual that I watch it at 6pm, now I"m really gonna miss it there. IMO, they should have kept it at 6pm, put My Wife and Kids at 7pm, with That 70's Show at 10pm. They could have added another AFV block from 8pm-10pm on Mondays replacing the movie and Thursdays. Too bad I'm not running ABC Family
I'm surprised Sister Sister is still airing so much. I love the show, but I wish they'd put Step by Step on at 1pm instead, or even 2pm replacing Sabrina.

Will Secret Life of the American Teenager be preempted one week? Otherwise it looks like one episode will be skipped on the marathon.

Too bad 8 Simple Rules lost its much better 6:00 time slot to a horrible show like My Wife and Kids. Oh well, what should we expect it is ABC, the dumb network that canceled 8SR, and renewed all those other bomb sitcoms that didn't even last the next season. I wonder if all those great shows they renewed over 8SR like Less Than Perfect, Rodney and Jake in Progress will ever even make it to any kind of syndication. Okay, I won't start that again. ;)

And will encores continue Fridays at 6:00 through its run?

Superbowl, you do realize not all shows last in the same slot on cable for a long time? 8 Simple Rules will be in that slot for 15 straight months (since June 2007). That is a long time. And the show is not going anywhere...it'll still air 3 and 3:30. If you want to watch the show at 6 & 6:30...DVR it or VCR it. Not everything can be fed to you at a certain time. Be happy it is still on. You can be so bitter at times.
catsrule, yes, Teenager will air Fridays at 6 until it ends its run.

Not bitter about the time change. Just used it to bring up once again what an idiot that McPherson is by canceling 8 Simple Rules to start with. Did he realize that if he gave it one more season it could have been in local syndication by now ? How much syndication have those other bombs he renewed over it been in ? Furthermore, I am not so bitter about him canceling it, but it is the three garbage shows he renewed over it that was the most annoying part.
All I know is I have kept my promise for three years now. I only watch two ABC shows, until that idiot McPherson gets out of there. The guy doesn't know a good comedy if he fell over it. He should stick to his dramas. And don't start me with Samantha Who, you know that show that basically can only air after Dancing With The Stars, and keep about 55% of whatever DWTS gives it.
Pavan

This thread is about ABC Family Channel. The time change of 8 Simple Rules has nothing to do with ABC. So why bring it up here?
McPherson has done a great job with ABC. You know that. You say he doesn't know good comedy, yet you bring in ratings when you mention Samantha Who. You talk about quality, then mention ratings. Stick to one side. There hasn't been that many new sitcoms with ratings the last few years. The one-hour comedy (Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives, Pushing Daisies) has been the it thing lately...and now the hilarious comedy-game show Wipeout, which is the funniest thing I've seen this season.

Gilmore Girls has been there for years. I think it's still their highest rated show (outside of some of their primetime lineup) - and it is a comedy. As far as your own "network" goes, you want EVEN MORE Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air on television???

Lol No but I rather have that then an extra hour of Full House. I mean, I like Full House but they over play it. But now that I think about it, my schedule would be more like this;
7am | Sister, Sister
8am | Step by Step
9am | Full House
10am | The Fresh Prince
11am | My Wife and Kids
12pm | Gilmore Girls
1pm | Movie
3:30pm | My Wife and Kids (Could Possibly be Preempted if Movie goes overtime)
4pm | That 70’s Show
5pm | What I Like About You
6pm | 8 Simple Rules
7pm | Grounded for Life

They wouldn't have any problems if they would only put one GG on a day and get rid of the Christian programming, what is the deal with that? Just because it used to be a religious network why is it still airing that stuff?
Then Step by Step can get 1 hr and Grounded for Life can be daily or maybe Whose Line if other stuff was pushed back earlier.

Yeah, I don't get the religioius deal, either. The 700 Club (who honestly watches this?) takes up 2 hours of the day, where we could be getting up to 4 other shows. And the entire latenight lineup past 1pm is religous and infomercials - it makes no sense to me.
I'd love to see more Step by Step, now that Family Matters is gone. I'm pissed that Whose Line? is only on 2 nights a week - i used to watch it daily at midnight.

That is a great slot. My only problem is that the show airs for an hour a night, so the cycles go by extremely quick. I think it's every month and a half or so that they're back to airing the Pilot again. ABCfamily should air one episode of 8 Simple Rules at 6:00pm and one episode of Grounded For Life at 6:30pm.

I'm sure Reba will be on her way over to ABCfamily in the next year or two. Unlike That '70s Show, Reba actually fits in with most of their other sitcoms, so I wouldn't mind it on there at all. The downside to that is the show will then be airing on about five different networks.
Pavan
08-05-2008, 04:25 PM
Reba will be on Lifetime for some years to come. Unless a shared deal happens, it will not come to ABC Family. Reba will likely be exclusive to Lifetime this fall, as CW Daytime is dropping it. No idea yet if other locals will pick up Reba, but as of now, no word.

In my personal opinion, That 70's Show is on way too much! I do not mind the show at 7 & 7:30, but having it for three more hours on Friday at 8, 9 and 12 and on Saturdays at 11 am.They should bring back The Hogan Family, Growing Pains or Boy Meets World. Or bring in new ones like The Nanny, Spin City, Just The Ten Of Us, Smart Guy, Brotherly Love, Charles In Charge, Silver Spoons or The Drew Carey Show. They should just do something to cut back on the 70's Show. And more Whose Line should be added to the line-up than just Mondays and Thursdays at midnight, it sucks!

The other thing that sucks is season 8 of 70s Show. Without Ashton or Topher Grace the show is awful.

Some notes:
- My Wife & Kids is airing 10-11AM on Saturdays in addition to Sundays 10-11AM slot already scheduled, also 11:00AM & 11:30AM on Sundays when there is no movie. Grounded for Life is gone, but it is slated to air Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10-11AM.
- The Middleman (Mondays at 10) will have its last telecast on Monday, Sept. 1 (Secret Life of the American Teenager marathon on 9/8 and AFV at 10pm on 9/15)
- ABC Wednesday Night Starter Kit special is slated to air Thursday, Sept. 4 (early Sept. 5) at 12:30AM ET/PT.
- The Secret Life of the American Teenager Marathon on Tuesday, Sept. 9 is now 3-8pm instead of 11am-8pm. However, The Secret Life of the American Teenager Marathon will also air Monday, Sept. 8 now from 6-11PM. On thuis day only (Sept. 8), My Wife & Kids will air from 1-2PM.
- Some more one-time airings of My Wife and Kids include Thursday, Sept. 11 from 12-1AM and Sunday, Sept. 14 from 11PM-12AM.

That really sucks. It was doing fine at 6pm, then they move it and now it's gone. Hopefully its only temporary - maybe it has to do with low airplays??
And BTW, this past weekend, Grounded for Life aired instead of My Wife and Kids I believe. Why?

Grounded for Life is slated for some airings on weekends again, but not every weekend. I guess it depends on the movies.
It's possible 8 Simple Rules could be low on plays. They have been airing it twice a weekday since June 2007 non-stop, so it is possible.

Grounded for Life is slated for some airings on weekends again, but not every weekend. I guess it depends on the movies.
It's possible 8 Simple Rules could be low on plays. They have been airing it twice a weekday since June 2007 non-stop, so it is possible.
That was my thought exactly - there's only 3 seasons, and it's been airing 10 episodes a week since then. It must be low, whether that's the reason its not airing or not.

I find it strange that they always seem to end up airing Full House the most when they could put 2 episodes of Step by Step or show more of Whose Line is it Anyway?

I'm sick of Full Hous - its taking away the variety from their schedule. I'd love to Whose Line take the slot, but its probably too early for this show. They should put it back at 10pm, and but AFV at 3pm.

Anything but AFV, honestly it is a good show but when it gets syndicated like crazy I find it loses its spunk very fast.

The newer AFV episodes with Bergeron aren't as good as the older ones with Saget, IMO, but AFV belongs more in a daytime slot than primetime. It would probably do well at 3 or 4pm. They need to air Whose Line more, though. it's airing like twice a week now.

Pavan, any word on when Lionsgate is going to release seasons 2 and 3 on DVD ?

Man, this netowkr started going down hill for me when Boy Meets World left. But luckily, I regained hope when 8SR, Grounded for Life and What I Like About You were added to the weekday lineup. Now, both 'grounded' and 8sr are basically gone and repleaced with FULL HOUSE and My Wife and Kids and Thats 70's Show. It's getting pretty bad imo.
I just hope the rest of 8SR is released on DVD soon. Pav, as superbowl asked, is there any word on that? And if not, do you have any contacts? Ever since that article about 8SR and Boy Meets World, I've been so anxious! I know 2009 but any clue or prediction when?

I know what you mean - Boy Meets World was always the highlight of the ABC Family schedule for me. But, they moved it around too much and eventually let it go, which was a disappointment, And now 8 Simple Rules is gone, and replaced by Full House (ugh!).
I really hope That 70's Show is doing disappointing numbers - nothing against the show, but it airs on many other networks. It just doesn't seem right being on ABC Family.
Lionsgate needs to start releasing 8SR! I'm very anxious, and I honestly can't wait much longer - when are they announcing????-LOL. Too bad it couldn't have come out before Christmas. It would have been much more logical doing it that way.

Yeah, I can see it heading down the toilet which is unfortunate. Hopefully, all the TGIF shows they air will come out on DVD before they stop airing them. I was referring to Step by Step (and in my mind I still think of Family Matters and Boy Meets World as ABC Family shows so that's why I said "All" LOL)

At the rate Warner is going, who knows when we'll see Step by Step and Family Matters make it to DVD. It seems to me like they don't even care anymore. And Boy Meets World - same for 8 Simple Rules. Lionsgate announced it was going to be released, but when?

Sounds like the usual ABC Family Christmas. Hopefully we'll see the Christmas episodes of all their sitcoms. It would be nice if they could do a marathon of all the Christmas episodes maybe on a Saturday or something.

Well that certainly is something for everyone. I won't say I LIKE all of it, but there's some good gems in there. Lots of Rankin-Bass, natch; and Mickey's Christmas Carol AND the Garfield Christmas? COOL! Sold on the marathon RIGHT THERE. And the "Countdown" will have the Charlie Brown movies and the Dolly Parton movie "Unlikely Angel." Cool again! (love Peanuts and love Dolly!)
Tell me, is "Annie" the '90s version or the 1982 film (with Bernadette Peters, Carol Burnett, and some other people ;-))
And I appreciate Garfield Christmas being there, but when they had the Halloween countdown, why couldn't they have played the even better Garfield's Halloween Adventure? Candycandycandycandy indeed...
I also think we need to accept that purely retro channels will never last for a long time, the way things are now. As long as the audience for them are getting older and demographics play an imporant role in the industry. I know there are a lot of ODD things for an ABC *Family* to air...but you do realize that they cannot relabel the channel due to the deal with Pat Robinson (the channel must keep "family" in the name AND air the 700 Club)

Burbank, CA (November 7, 2008) — As the holiday season approaches, ABC Family launches its eleventh year of “25 Days of Christmas” featuring over 200 hours of holiday-themed entertainment for the whole family from December 1- 25. Viewers will celebrate the season with all-new original movies and specials and, of course, the return of Christmas favorites during primetime as well as weekend holiday marathons every Saturday and Sunday.
This year, ABC Family proudly presents the new original special, “A Miser Brothers’ Christmas,” premiering Saturday, December 13 (8:00 – 9:00 PM ET/PT), based upon characters originally appearing in the Rankin-Bass Christmas classic, “The Year Without a Santa Claus.” Mickey Rooney returns as the voice of Santa Claus and George S. Irving returns as Heat Miser in a tale of how Santa throws out his back and is unable to deliver gifts for Christmas, threatening to ruin Christmas for children all around the world. This time, it’s up to the battling brothers Heat Miser and Snow Miser to come together and help save Christmas. This animated special was produced by Warner Bros. Animation in association with Cuppa Coffee Studios and is presented by Warner Bros. Animation and ABC Family. The script was written by Eddie Guzelian (“Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch”).
ABC Family will also premiere the new original holiday movie, “Snow 2 Brain Freeze,” on Sunday, December 14 (8:00 – 10:00 PM ET/PT). Tom Cavanagh reprises his role as Nick Snowden, aka Santa, who, in the rush of preparing for his biggest day of the year - Christmas! - loses his memory and forgets who he is! Will Nick remember that he is Santa in time for Christmas? “Snow 2 Brain Freeze” also stars Ashley Williams as Sandy Snowden and Patrick Fabian as Buck, and was written by Rich Burns, directed by Mark Rosman and executive produced by Phil Kruener.
The ABC Family holiday movie “Christmas in Wonderland,” starring Patrick Swayze and Carmen Electra, premieres on Saturday, December 20 (8:00 – 10:00 PM ET/PT). With a recent move and tough financial times, the Saunders family is facing a bleak Christmas. With the kids moping around home, Wayne Saunders (Swayze) decides to try and make the best out of the holiday by taking the family to the mall to get much needed Christmas decorations and presents. But when the two youngest kids come across a bag full of money, they believe that their Christmas just got a whole lot brighter. Unfortunately for them, the bag belongs to two bumbling crooks in the middle of a counterfeit heist and if they don’t get it back, their boss (Electra) will have their heads. The movie also stars Chris Kattan and Tim Curry.
In addition, ABC Family will host the basic cable premieres of “CARS” on Wednesday, December 3 (6:00 – 8:30 PM ET/PT); “A Garfield Christmas” on Tuesday, December 9 (7:00 – 7:30 PM ET/PT); and “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” on Friday, December 12 (6:00 – 9:30 PM ET/PT).
