Shopping for Televisions is a pain in the rear..

I miss the days when you just bought a quality CRT tube and took it home. Now, you have to pick between plasma and LCD, 720P vs 1080I and 1080P, etc.


What is everyone here watching tv on these days? Include brands if possible.

27 inch Olevia LCD HDTV. Bought it on clearance/sale at Circuit City for $399. Absolutely love it - had it since last September.

I know what you mean, I wasn't prepared to buy a Plasma or LCD last year when I was shopping for a new TV. I ended up getting a 24 inch Wide Screen

Plasma is supposed to have a better picture quality, but more fear of "burn in" for people who play videogames. They also are supposed to look better for sports fans, they handle the fast motion better.

LCD is better for living rooms with a lot of sunlight because they aren't as reflective as a plasma and no fear of "burn in" for videogamers.

I have not bought any of these high-end TVs yet. I'm not crazy about having to spend $1,000.00 or more for a quality set and having to get cable if you want good reception. :(

Finding the best LCD TV (http://www.smartratings.com/electronics/plasma_and_lcds/472) can be done by reading the reviews especially the ones coming from the experts. You won't definitely go wrong from doing it. Most consumers found the idea very rewarding. Hope this helps.

Well, I'm really primative. I have an analog TV with no cable but a digital adaptor. So I get the basic channels. But that's OK by me since the only thing I watch is the news and sitcom DVDs. I don't know what I'm going to do when my analog dies. Either: (1) explore what I can watch thru my computer (2) ask a technologically savvy friend for an rx - and I have a few so when I come to that bridge I'll cross it (3) decide to heck with TV and just get a DVD player/viewer. Probably 1 or 2.

I feel your pain. I want to replace the 27" tv that's on my bedroom bureau. What a shock I was in for, lol. Trying to find a regular tube tv is like trying to find an 8-track player. I don't want anything fancy. I think most flat screens are annoying because they're rectangular, so the picture looks strange. I'm looking at Craigslist, but I have to be careful that I don't buy what I'm getting rid of, which is a good tv, but the picture is getting lighter. Good luck.

In 2009 you can no longer buy a regular TV from the stores, only Flat screens. That sucks so you will have to go to ebay or craiglist
