Nick at Night is constantly adding new "classic" series to their lineup... with the announced additions of such shows as "Family Ties" and "Threes Company" coming up next year. So what other shows would you like to see added to the line-up? What madern classics can you see becoming a regular part of Nick At Night? And what shows do you think are sorely missing form the lineup right now?

Gilligannut, I know you're going to suggest Dobbie Gillis http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif What other shows do we need to have represented?

WHoa... that last post of mine came out all weird and junk! Okay, it should have ended "And maybe a weekly showcase/marathon of some of the failed shows that only had 5 or 6 episodes, like "The Chimp and Me" and "The Duck Factory" (Starring Jim Carey of all people!)

Once they run out of short-lives sitcoms, they could move on to shows that only ever got a pilot episode, and even some of the shows that had pilots made but never got shown! I'd love to see the American pilot for "Red Dwarf" get shown! And I'm sure that the Garry Marshal archives could supply us with *zillions* of unused pilots!

Of course Garry Marshall has tons of sitcom pilots! (I never pass up a chance to talk about Garry Marshall, if you haven't noticed) There's Hank, and Crazy Castles, and The Recruiters, and plenty more (and I want to see all of them...). I really want to see the pilot of Mork & Mindy. I want to see how they took clips from the Happy Days episode with Mork and clips from a movie with Pam Dawber in it and put it together to make it look like one thing.... (And by the way, it's "Me and the Chimp") http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

"Well, Laverne is sort of childish"

"Childish? Childish? COming from a grown woman who throws tea parties for her stuffed cat!"

"Well at least I don't sew L's on everything I wear!"

"Well that would be pretty stupid considering your name's Shirley!"

...Do you think Mr. Marshal would be willing to show his archives on N@N sometime? I mean, does he seem to be rpoud of all that stuff, or is it just stuff he would rather have just be forgotten?

I think he would be proud of them! I mean, with a lot of them it was just timing that wasn't right, I think. Like The Recruiters and Happy Days had bad timing. I wish he would show all of his pilots! That would be awesome! Besides, if he wanted to forget them, he wouldn't have put them in his book. Of course, he did metnion Me and the Chimp and I think he may want to forget that one...anyone know what that show was even about?

Hmmm... it was *proabably* about a guy and a chimp. Of course, I could be wrong! But I need to find out what it was about, because with a name like that, it sounds DANGEROUSLY close to my sit-com idea! If it's already been done, then I'm RUINED!!!

My sit-com idea is the story of a comedy writer who gets hired to write for a late-night talk show host (like David Letterman or Conan O'Brien), but he doesn't know anything aobut writing comedy! He got the job by handing in someone else's writing! So he's on a deadline to come up with a funny monologue, and can't think of anything. Then, in desperation, his mind makes a weird connection; what's funny? MONKEYS are funny! So he goes out and buys a monkey, thinking that having such a funny animal around the house will SURELY give him some ideas aqbout comedy!

But the monkey just sits there, doing nothing. The writer works himself in to a frenzy, and realizes he hasn't slept in days because he's been so stressed out. His girlfriend comes over to help him relax, and he passes out almost immediately. The girlfriend lets herself out of the appartment, and we go to the first commercial break.

Coming back from the commercial break, we see the writer waking up and panicking when he sees what time it is. He has 20 minutes to write the monologue and get it to the studio! He sits down at the type writer, adn sees that there is a completely written monologue already done. He reads it a bit, and it is funny. He figures he must have written it last night and just blacked out! So he takes the script to the studio, the host of the show reads it on natinal live television, and it's a hit! Everyone congratualted the writer! He's given a lot of money, and he goes home to start writing next weeks monologue. But when he gets home, he realizes that he still can't write funny stuff! His girlfriend is there to support him, and he bounces bad one-liners off her to see if any of them are funny. They aren't. The girlfriend leaves for the evening, and the writer is left sitting at the type writer. He talks to himself, "Why can't I write a funny monologue? I did it before..."

Then, a rough voice (I was thinking of Jack Klugman, from the Odd Couple) says "No you didn't, I did!"

And there we have the preise. A no dgood writer lives with a talking monkey who writes jokes for him in exchange for bannannas and a home that isn't a laboratory. The monkey wa experimented on in a laboratory some time in his past, which is why he can talk and think and use a typewriter. They have to keep it a secret from everyone, including the writer's girlfriend.

Dang. I really hope Mr. Marshal didn't already do a sitcom like that! If not, I always have my backup show... anyone interested in hearing about that one?

I would love to see them show BEWITCHED again. They should have never have taken it off the schedule. I would also love to see SOAP, BENSON, and GET SMART. I also love the idea of short run sitcoms like THE CHARMINGS, FILTHY RICH, GRAND and POWERS THAT BE.
