View Full Version : Do you think Cliff really loved Jamie?

Or did he only want her part in Ewing Oil?

He only wanted her part in Ewing Oil. Which is why he wants to divorce her as soon as she finds out she is not entitled to a part of Ewing Oil.

Now, if you follow the dream season, then he does truly love her. But we know what happened in the dream season was just that, a bad dream of Pam's.

I can't have been a totally bad dream, since first Ray and Donna and then Cliff and Jamie were happy.

Well if you follow the show, you know the dream season was purely done so the Bobby character could return. Whatever happened in that dream never really happened. Pam wakes up and everything that had occurred THE SEASON BEFORE is where the show left off. So Cliff did not love Jamie.

Still, some things were obviously better in "the dream" than in "reality". That was what I was saying.

Oh I see. Yes, the whole story abt Ray and Donna and the Down's Syndrome storyline was a nice one. Also the whole Sue Ellen storyline abt her alcoholism hitting rock bottom, so much so she ended up on skid row. Damn! what a performance by Linda.

Their were a lot of great things that happened in the dream season including Cliff and Jamie. I liked how they were that season and when the dream was over he was nasty to her. That really never sit well with me. I'm glad Patrick came back but I don't like the way they brought him back. The only real bad stories during the dream were the Angelica Nero and the Matt Cantrell storylines and they could have ended them fast. Even after Patrick came back we only really had one more year with the original cast ( excluding Lucy) so was it really worth it? The Dream season was better than the last 2 seasons combined.

I hear ya Sonny. I said it before and I will say it again. That whole Angelica Nero storyline was a bad imitation of Dynasty. If I wanted to watch Dynasty for all the shoulder pads and hair and glitter, I would have (I did ) but I watched DALLAS for the simplicity it offered and great storylines. I was so damn happy when Bobby came back, but the whole Jenna being pregnant, Pam wanting Jenna's baby, etc. OH GOD :wallbang: The writing was never the same.

I read in a book called Soap Opera Babylon that the writers wanted to make Angelica Nero and her female assistant lovers. Larry Hagman, Barbara Bel Geddes and Susan Howard all threatened to walk if that happened, and shortly thereafter, Angelica Nero and her assistant were written out of the show.

I never watched Dynasty until years later when it was in syndication and although it was a good show it wasn't in the same league as Dallas. I hated that storyline too. Also Jenna getting paired up with Ray. They had absolutely no chemistry and Charlie turned into a brat. What I did like about the season when Patrick came back was the Wes and the B.D. Calhoun storylines. I thought they were first rate although they ended Wes's story pretty abruptly. But after JR lost Ewing Oil they made a big mistake in getting rid of Jeremy who could have been a great adversary to JR if he would have stayed on the show more. They brought him back and got rid of him again. Carter McKay just wasn't that great of a villian.

I don't know those two just didn't have any emotion at all. They were so wooden. I didn't even get the feeling that Grace liked Jack although they said they loved each other.

Jack was the character played by Dack Rambo, right?

Yea that was Jack. I always liked him but I know he didn't have a happy experience on Dallas.

I just saw the episode, where Bobby was hit by Katherine's car. Damn, even though I know they turned it all into a dream, it was a very sad indeed. In other words, I'm starting on the dream season tomorrow. So let's see how I like it.

When I first seen the Angelica Nero character and her assistant, I actually thought that was what was going to happen...a lesbian romance. It seemed like it at times. I am glad they didn't go that route. I wish they had NEVER gone that route of that whole Nero character period!

I agree Sonny, the acting was just not up to par. I kept wondering why do they seem so emotionless? Nothing to look at.

That's why people where so mad it was a dream. That was a very emotional episode and it was like the Producers where playing mind games on the fans. I remember when I first saw it , I had a big letdown. I didn't even enjoy the rest of the episode ( it ran for 2 hours that night). Now over time I enjoyed that season a lot but the dream part still doesn't feel right.

Oh God when Bobby died, it was so sad. I was balling my eyes out. I still do. I always imagine what it would have been like had Barbara Bel Geddes had been there crying rather than Donna Reed.

I mentioned the book Soap Opera Babylon before, and they went into detail about the whole Miss Ellie recast thing. Apparently, Larry Hagman wanted his OWN mother, Mary Martin, to play the role after Ms. Bel Geddes left. When she came back, Donna Reed didn't know she was getting fired until she was vacationing in Europe. Wow.

When even JR started crying telling him don't leave him, that really hit me. Larry really is a great actor showing all of JR's sides. I agree about Donna Reed. I loved her in many things but she just wasn't Miss Ellie.

Donna Reed was wooden too. Call her and Angelica Nero the WOODEN SPOONS. Donna was just too fancy looking (wardrobe wise) and couldn't give the emotion that Barbara did.

Yea they didn't treat Donna Reed right at all. I also read over on Ultimate Dallas that Barbara was fired and replaced with Donna Reed because she wanted to work less hours because of her recent heart problems and they wouldn't let her. I didn't know any of that when she was replaced back then. I thought it was her decision to leave. That wasn't right either. And soon they learned that their was only one Miss Ellie.

Donna Reed passed on not long after she was fired from Dallas. If Barbara Bel Geddes had decided to stay retired for good and had Ms. Reed stayed on, I wonder what the show would've been like had they killed off Miss Ellie.

When Donna Reed was taking down Jock's portrait at Southfork, I wanted to smack her.

Probably like the last year. The show really missed Miss Ellie and knowing how much she loved Southfork, it didn't seem like her character to travel in Europe forever,

That's true. She was more fancy-looking than Barbara Bel Geddes. But I still think they're equally good, just in two different ways.

Yeah, Linda Gray really out did herself there! I have just pre-ordered season 9 from Amazon.com. I can't wait to see her performance again! And I am glad the REAL Miss Ellie will be back!

I have four seasons of DALLAS on DVD but I was thoroughly enjoying watching it on Soapnet. That is, until they moved the show to that God-awful hour of 4 a.m.
