- Family Matters Launch Marathon
Sunday, June 29, 2008
9pm-4am ET/PT
There is a new family coming to town, and Nick at Nite is proud to welcome the Winslows and Family Matters to our neighborhood. Join Carl, Harriet, Eddie, Laura, Judy and one of the most memorable (and nerdy) next-door neighbors in television history, Steve Urkel, as they bring fun for the whole family to Nick-at-Nite. The house also has Harriet's sister Rachel and her son Richie and Carl's mom Mother Winslow. Talk about a family!
About the Show:
Family Matters is an American sitcom that aired on ABC about a middle-class African-American family living in Chicago. The show, a spinoff of ABC's Perfect Strangers, originally focused on the character of Harriette Winslow and her family - husband Carl Winslow, a police officer, rebellious son Eddie Winslow, smart daughter Laura Winslow, and youngest child Judy Winslow. They had opened their home to Carl's street-wise mother Estelle Winslow as well as Harriette's sister Rachel Crawford and her son Richie Crawford after the death of Rachel's husband. The Winslows' nerdy next-door neighbor Steve Urkel was introduced midway through the first season, and quickly became the focus of the show due to his huge popularity.
Family Matters will air regularly, Sunday through Thursday at 8:30 p.m. & 11:00 p.m.; and Friday & Saturday at 12 a.m. (all times ET/PT) starting Monday, June 30 on Nick at Nite!

Launch marathon schedule for Sunday, June 29:
9:00pm Family Matters #023 "Rachel's Place"
9:30pm Family Matters #024 "Torn Between Two Lovers"
10:00pm Family Matters #026 "Flashpants"
10:30pm Family Matters #027 "The Crash Course"

That's a dumb A$$ schedule, why can't HI be at 8:30 and have FM at 9pm to 10pm leading into GL.

Not sure why it's being aired 3 hours apart

Pavan

They are taking it slow. Why mess with the curent success?

I actually agree with Solomon - Family Matters deserves better slots than the ones it got. It doesn't even air for a full hour anywhere on the schedule. Even if it aired like 8:30-9:30, it would be better than 8:30 and 11pm.

I think it'll do well at 8:30, though. It will probably have the success that Full House had as the transitional show, since both are similar. And, even I love Roseanne, but why's it airing so much lately? And Pavan, I take it they're not doing summer marathons this year? I always used to love those.

Roseanne has a new contract since the fall and has barely been used until recently. So they are airing all they can, since it probably does the best in the overnight period out of Cosby and Full House.

I'm sure if Family Matters hits, it will get more timeslots. I can see them adding 9-10pm or something by the fall.

At least they're airing Roseanne, instead of letting sit around and get out of it's contract. But, on some nights, it's airing over 3 hours, which is a lot even for this show. You think they'd maybe add in an hour of Home Improvement, Fresh Prince, or Family Matters for a little more variety.

I can see FM hitting, especially in the summer, when kids are out of school and can watch it, since I'm sure that's what a lot of it's viewers will be.

Family Matters will get very good ratings, most likely, at 8:30. Kids will be watching as well as all the older fans of the show.

I still wish that they would air, let's say, three shows a night in 3hr marathon blocks. Also, they wouldn't always have HI at the early slot for example but it would be a rotator so that each show goes in a different slot every night so we can see every N@N show at every time possible.

I think having the overall weeklong variety, instead of one night variety always at the same times (ppl like me don't stay up until 3 in the morning to watch tv) would be better than what they do now. Also, isn't that what N@N is all about? The variety of shows that are shown in marathon blocks was how it used to be and I wish they could go back to that system.

Nick at Nite should have just expanded a half hour and aired Family Matters from 8-9PM. It's not like it would hurt Nick, they would still air 14 hours.

JulieSomoski

9pm-10pm would be a lot better. They could have put Home Improvement at 11pm, and Fresh Prince at 12pm. That just makes a lot more sense to keep the hour blocks rather than to have FM at 8:30 and 11pm.

I'm just happy Family Matters is coming back to TV. You can't look a gift horse in the mouth. I'm sort of glad Nick at Nite extended the launch date because the longer the wait the more exciting it will be to watch. I've really missed it since it left ABC Family in February.

If N@N wanted a schedule with more variety and not repeats of the same shows after 3 hours, the schedule would look more like this;

9pm - Family Matters
10 - George Lopez
11 - The Fresh Prince
12 - Home Improvement
1 - Roseanne
2 - The Cosby Show
3 - Full House
4 - Family Matters
430 - George Lopez
5 - The Fresh Prince
530 - Home Improvement

This way, the same shows get repeats and every show besides the few gets at least an hour every night!

My guess is it will. I'm sure the od summer slots are just to see if and where it can do well. My guess is by September, when school starts, it'll ease into the 9-10pm slot, since FM is a show that would probably do well with kids. Home Improvement would probably go to 11-12pm, or 12-1pm.

Pavan

The 6am Full House was known for quite some time (I posted it on the blog and one of the N@N threads before). That slot is still considered Nickelodeon.

As for the fall, I agree, Family Matters 9-10 would be great if it clicks. George Lopez is going no where from 10-11. It is even doing better now! I see it everyday in the top 10 basically, so I'm not even bothering posting it anymore, lol. Fresh Prince would be 11-12 and Home 12-1am I would guess.

I think FM would do better at 9pm than HI, whereas HI could still probably do better in latenight slots than FM could. Let's just hope FM does well over the summer!

Even though I don't like George Lopez, I kind of am glad that it is doing outstanding at 10pm. NAN hasn't had a top 10 show in years, so it's good to see them rebound from their ratings slump.

This is not U.S. news, but Nick at Nite Latin America has changed their on-air look and website, and added a few shows as well such as Get Smart and Fresh Prince:

And just 10 days left here in the U.S. for the launch of Family Matters on Nick at Nite!

The Nick.com schedule shows that...

Starting Saturday, July 5:

11:00PM Home Improvement
11:30PM Home Improvement
12:00AM Family Matters
12:30AM Family Matters
1:00AM Home Improvement
1:30AM Home Improvement

Sunday, July 6:

11:30PM Family Matters
1:00AM The Cosby Show
1:30AM The Cosby Show

That "Fresh Prince" deal must start in July (or N@N is just getting ready for it). There will be no "Fresh Prince" on weekends on N@N starting next week.

Pavan

Correct, the weekend deal starts in July but ABC Family won't start airing it actually until August.

God, why does every network want to have this show? I didn't think ABC Family could get any worse right now, but they're proven that wrong to me. Fresh Prince is just a show that never dies.

The good thing is NAN will be airing it even less. It will only be airing weeknights starting in July, right? I couldn't be happier with that.

JulieSomoski
06-26-2008, 04:42 PM
last week's Mad About You marathon doesn't count? :(

I said one of the best - the MAY marathon last Sunday was right up there with it. It was actually the first weekend I've watched TV Land in ages. The only thing I hated was that off-the-clock programming - it seemed like some commercials were 6-7 minutes long.

Pavan
06-26-2008, 04:47 PM
Julie, ABC Family will only air Fresh Prince Saturday and Sunday nights starting in August, and Sunday nights it will only be 11pm-12am, if at all. It's good that Nick at Nite can't air it in weekends anymore starting in July. That will be more room for Family Matters. Yes, Fresh will only air Mon-Fri starting June 30, see first post. The N won't be able to air the show anymore weekend evenings either now. TBS has the daytime rights (morning/afternoons). This show has so many complications in its contract now.

This might not be 100% correct, but it will be something like this:
6am-6pm Everyday TBS
6pm-6am Weekdays Nick at Nite/The N
6pm-6am Weekends ABC Family

JulieSomoski
06-26-2008, 04:55 PM
So, it's really not airing as much as it seems. But now, Nick at Nite, The N, TBS, and ABC Family will be airing the show, which makes it seem like it's airing more than it actually is.

Hopefully come August, Family Matters will get more airtime. The fact that it's getting more on weekends is definitely a start.

Pavan
06-26-2008, 04:59 PM
Yeah, a three-way (four cable networks) deal is crazy. Nick at Nite and The N count as one, since both are Viacom stations.

Family Matters will now air:
Mon-Thurs 8:30pm and 11pm
Fridays 12am
Saturdays 12-1am and 2-3am
Sundays 11pm-12am

Fresh Prince will air:
Nick at Nite
Mon-Thurs 11:30pm and 2-3am
Friday 12:30am and 3-4am

The N
Weekdays 8-9pm and 1-2am

TBS
Weekdays 9-10am

ABC Family (August)
Saturdays 11pm-2am
Sundays 11pm-12am

Family Matters seems all over the schedule on NAN. I think they'd be better of giving it a set time every day. And IMO, they should air it earlier, like 9pm. Seems like Home Improvement would work better in those slots than Family Matters.

They should have a set time for it, just so it's easier for people to find when its on. Airing it at 5 different times a week is too confusing.

Pavan, it's gonna be 2 different episodes both at 8:30 and 11, right? Do you know if it'll be 4 different episodes on Saturdays, or will the 2am airings be encores of the 12am airings?

The FM schedule is much better for me since I'm a night owl and primetime is pretty booked with the broadcast networks.

One question though, why aren't they starting with episode 1 on Monday? I understand the marathon but it doesn't make sense with the regular airings.

Family Matters will have two different airings at 8:30 and 11. Saturdays 2-3am is the same as 12-1am right now, but that will change I bet, too close to air encores. I posted the 8:30pm episodes for July: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showpost.php?p=3948053&postcount=31 Don't have 11pm or weekends yet.

They are not starting with season one because they want to start where Urkel became big, season two. Season 1 will air once they go through the rotation once.

So they are airing the episodes in order?

BTW, I still think Family Matters is better off airing for an hour at 9pm. I'm sure Home Improvement does okay there, but FM would probably do better, and HI would probably do better airing at 11pm. I wouldn't be surprised if that happens come September.

Yeah back to back makes more sense instead of spreading out the eps.

I think it's good that Fresh Prince airs on all 4 channels now (ABC Family, TBS, The-N, Nick @ Nite).

It is on early on TBS so that's good for the early morning watchers.

At night, it's good because for the people who are obsessed with the show, they can watch it on The-N and then turn over to N@N. Plus, on the weekends, they can also watch it late on ABC family.

It kind of spreads the show out all over different channels. It will still have a lot of airings but now it opens up the schedule on N@N by also having the rights given to ABC Family and The-N continuing to air it. N@N is getting better by doing this, they will have, maybe not more variety, but not an overdose of FPOBA so we can get more HI or FM :)

Step in the right direction for N@N and good that ABC Family can up their ratings with the obsessive Fresh Prince fans.

Fresh Prince seems to be ever-so-gradually fading from Nick at Nite. Looks like after 73 cycles () people finally are getting sick of it.

YES!

Wow...I never expected the Fresh Prince to air on ABC Family. I am happy though this will give more time to Family Matters more timeslots. Now if only they'd get rid of HI, lol.

G.LO and FM all the way!
