What I don't get is the way they treated Brian

In that one episode where he was leaving for college,they were acting like they didn't care until they saw the drawing he made as a kid on his wall behind the dresser

It was just suppose to be funny. This show was hilarious. Their parenting was funny as hell because they were more like real parents, rather then all fake lovey-dovey brady bunch style. They were funny and witty.
