I assume if CRASH COURSE is Wed that there won't be any original stuff on Thurs besides the 2 weeks of Millionaire. Even though CC is a perfect fit out of WIPEOUT, I liked CC airing out of Millionaire on THURS because it is the one night of the week where there is no other reality at 9pm (SYTYCD ends next week I think?). This way, after Millionaire ends, CC could slide back to 8pm and GA and PP can come back. Wed could be double WIPEOUTS. I think you are correct that CC is going to WED because ABC has added extra GREYS reruns from early in the season, the next few weeks, and I am sure they are gonna rerun all of them. Based on that it sounds as if they are sticking with GA and PP from 9-11pm on Thurs. I don't think they should pre-empt WIPEOUT for 2 weeks, though. It's their highest rated Summer show. Even a rerun should air. So if they do launch CC out Millionaire, those (2) weeks they should run WIPEOUT (r) at 10pm on Wed

Regardless how these shows perform, and I hope at least one or 2 pop in the ratings, I give ABC props for trying to launch some new franchses this SUMMER. They have picked shows that suit their brand and scheduled them well for the most part. They were also able to air select reruns to make some money back but not air incessant reruns and they were able to air fresh eps of critically acclaimed (although unfortunately low rated) BOT, to hopefully espose it to new eyeballs. This is their best Summer in terms of plannning and scheduling and trying to launch some new hit shows, in recent memory and I commend them for that.

Honestly it is much easier to cover it now then during the regular season. They can either move the WIPEOUT to 9pm or run the rerun scheduled for next week at 8pm in other time zones other than the east and the new one can air next week.

During the Fall season I could see some nets saying we are not gonna cover it and have their cable channels run it, but there are so many night of reruns now (where nets can reschedule Wed shows) and the ratings don't count, that honestly everyone should air this.

That is a good point. I'd much rather see it now than in May Sweeps or premiere week in September. But it still annoys me.

and I didn't know a repeat was scheduled for next week. That makes it easier to deal with.

ABC has set a time for its new auto-obstacle-course reality show, "Crash Course."

"Crash" will air Wednesdays at 9 p.m. starting Aug. 26. That's the slot "I Survived a Japanese Game Show (http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tv/i-survived-a-japanese-game-show/EP01046188)" currently holds. An original "Wipeout (http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tv/wipeout/EP01046187)" will serve as lead-in, giving viewers two hours of obstacle course mayhem.

By getting a late-summer start, the show keeps the time period warm going into September, when ABC plans to debut its new two-hour comedy block on the night.

Couple of changes:

Shark Tank:
“Shark Tank” is scheduled to air additional airings on Sundays, August 30, September 6 and 13, 2009 at 9:00 PM ET/PT.
“Shark Tank” is also still scheduled to air on Sundays, August 9, 16 and 23, 2009 at 9:00 PM ET/PT after "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?" However, “Shark Tank” is no longer scheduled to air on Tuesdays, effective August 25, 2009 in the 8:00 PM ET/PT slot. Tuesdays at 8PM starting Aug. 25 is now TBD.
(Shark Tank will likely move to Tuesdays at 8 starting Sept. 15)

Grey's Anatomy double-encores:
Encore episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” are scheduled to air on Thursdays, August 27, September 3, 10 and 17, 2009 at 8:00 PM ET/PT.
“Grey’s Anatomy” is also scheduled to air in its regular 9:00 PM ET/PT slot on these dates as well.

Special Defying Gravity encore:
An encore episode of “Defying Gravity” is scheduled to air on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 9:00 PM ET/PT following "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?"

(Also, see post #1266 for some further changes)

Am I mistaken or are they seriously preempting WIPEOUT for the 2 weeks that MILLIONAIRE is on? I thought they would move WIPEOUT to 9pm and ISAJGS to Tues at 9pm at least for the 11th. Or run WIEPOUT at 9p, ISAJGS at 10pm on Wed, but it doesn't seem like they are doing that (at least for the 12th). Could that make any less sense?

The only thing I can think of is that they are conserving the new WIPEOUTS to use Tues at 8pm in early SEP, but still A WIPEOUT rerun would do better than PRIMETIME. They should not take it off for 2 weeks.

tvcrazed
07-24-2009, 05:26 PM
Actually If I remember correctly their order was only for 16 eps, in which case they don't have enough to air originals for those 2 weeks if they want to go until the first Wed of the Fall season (all the more reason they shouldn't have doubled 2 originals that Wednesday in June). But I would still air reruns. You don't take off your top show of the Summer for 2 weeks. I don't get why reruns are scheduld on Sat nights and weekend afternoons, but not primtime during the week where they would do so much better.

They should. I don't see the problem with adding 3 or 4 episodes to the order, which should take them to mid-September. That's assuming, of course, the old course hasn't been destroyed yet - I know they're currently working on building an all new course for season 3.

I don't think they need to order any. There were some episodes they can reair that aired on a special time of 9pm (i.e. the one that aired after Obama's news conference).

They can do this for the final 6 weeks:

Aug. 12 - new (confirmed)
Aug. 19 - repeat (the one that aired after Obama's conference)
Aug. 26 - new
Sept. 2 - new (confirmed)
Sept. 9 - repeat (maybe the Wipeout Bowl or the one that aired at 9pm in June)
Sept. 16 - new

I agree. I assumed the 19th would be a rerun after Millionaire and 26th and 9th would be new to lead into CRASH COURSE.

Or Sep 9th could be new and the last one could be a recap of the whole season.

I guess they feel they can't rerun the WIPEOUT bowl, I just assume that,. because they haven't run it yet

It's funny but i was expecting/hoping ABC would rerun Shark Tank on Sat night. But I actually thought they might/was hoping they would run a WIPEOUT rerun at 8p then ST. Normally, as you know, I am not a fan of wasting WIPEOUT reruns on Sat night, but since they are not running them during the week and it gets a 1.0 on Sat night, I thought that would be a better lead in to ST then an animated film.

Shaq did well last night considering it's up against 2 huge reality hits. PRIMETIME has been tanking all SUMMER. Shaq had 1.7 and last night PRIMETIME got a 1.1. I really wonder why ABC doesn't use this 10pm slot better. Next week. I'd rerun this past week's Shaq at 10p. Clearly some people are watching it against much compeption. Even if it holds the 1.7 from 9pm that's better than a 1.1. Either that or another Shark Tank. I know this will never happen, just my 2 cents. Plus ABC is using a lot of promo slots for PREIMTIME and it doesn't deliver.

ABC News Special: Remembering Ted Kennedy airs tonight at 10pm instead of Primetime: Crime. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/blog/2009/08/wgn-america-fall-2009-schedule-notes.html

Maybe I am wrong but outside of a week or two, PRIMETIME:CRIME has been getting a 1.3 most weeks (definitely last week out of WIPEOUT). That slot, in my opinion, could have been put to better use. It's one of very few slots where there is no major competition for ABC and they could schedule or rerun a potential new reality show. (Shark Tank for example which got a .9 on Sat night out of an animated movie, could have benefited for another airing here when there are 2 drama reruns on other nets). Last year PRIMETIME scored well, but it isn't this year and to schedule new potential reality shows against other reality hits when there is a better slot available doesn't make sense to me. SHARK TANK airs against one of the highest rated shows of the week 18-49 period. TRUE BLOOD got a 2.8 this past SUNDAY and still ST did decently. All I am saying is another play wouldn't hurt here. SHAQ is doing very decently considering it's had little promotion and airs against 2 big reality hits. It's not as if those PRIMETIME's are dated. they can be saved for later use. It seems that MEDICAL MYSTERIES and WWYD are the better rated PRIMETIME franchises.

Pavan
08-26-2009, 02:05 PM
I agree with you. I think Crime does better than that though. Primetime: Crime track: 1.6 (Aug. 19), 1.5 (Aug 12), 1.3 (July 29), 1.6 (July 15), 2.0 (July 8), 1.4 (July 1).

It does better than the other Primetime series and it is doing better than last year. I think Shark Tank got a 0.6 for a repeat on Saturday, Aug. 15.

Well my thinking is that since it grows during the hour, it could grow even more from 10-11pm, not to mention that TRUE BLOOD (which is getting a 2.8 18-49) is not on at 10pm, although TB is not on next week.

But the truth is, if it doesn't grow more than a 1.8, they can't air at it 8p on Tuesday with heavy competition. But this show is a very viable concept and one that there is clearly some audience for, so if it doesn't air in Fall they should air it in Summer. Although if one of ABC's dramas flops this show could do very well following a big sized reality audience like DWTS. It gets a 1.8 by itself growing out of its lead in. I imagine out of a 4.5 it could do close to a 3.

I really don't think this show has a shot either way. Getting under 5 million viewers in the summer is not good. It lost audience from its repeat lead-in and isn't going anywhere in terms of ratings. A 1.8 rating is decent, but it'll be against much tougher competition airings on Tuesdays. They'd be better off just airing Dancing recaps in its place.

They'd be better off just airing Dancing recaps in its place.

Which is what I imagine they'll do until V premieres Nov 3rd.

I could also see them using Tues at 8p Sep 29th to rerun one of their new dramas or comedies. I assume the first Friday (9/25) from 8-10p will be reruns of new shows - maybe comedies at 8p and at 9pm FLASH FORWARD, so Tues at 8p that week they could either rerun EASTWICK or FORGOTTEN or another run of the comedies or FF. I guess they will see how their shows perform and if there is potential for growth maybe encore one of those.
