The Captian

hey guys, i know i'm new around here, but i was just wondering why you guys hate the captian, so much. I mean i know she sorta rough on Jinny, and all, but i think that some of the best scene's are when they're arguing, it show's thier different sides. I like the Captian, Jinny's my fav of course, but still. The Captain is the typical portrayal of a woman in a leadership position. When she became a police officer there weren't many women cops or any in leadership positions so she was forced to be tough. Jinny deserved to be chewed out by Kate at the end of that one episode. I've studied leadership in college, and women who are in control in that type of environment have to be tough in order to have control. Probably in the next 10-20 years when more women reach that level of leadership you will see less, and less of this, but until then women have to fight for whatever ounce of leadership they can get and that is what Kate is doing. I don't mind the captain for those reasons. She is fighting to protect what she has and that's why she is so tough on Jinny.

I really dislike the captain, but I'd like to clarify something. I like her as "The Captain". I dislike her as Kate. She's tough but fair, and as has been previously mentioned, a dead-on accurate depiction of a woman in a man's world. I like that.

I think that the character of Kate outside of the job has some continuity issues, and that kind of bugs me. She's not a very nurturing mother to her daughter, but to be fair, her daughter ain't exactly a bowl of cherries. But she tells her daughter in episode 1 that she's a feminist and women should be able to do anything they want to do. Then in episode 2, she's sleeping with an ADA half her age, then lying about it. I don't know too many feminists who would sneak around. That's caving back into old stereotypes that they are trying to overcome.

To summarize, The Captain is great. Kate needs some improvement.

The Captain is okay...she's prolly my least fave, but I don't *hate* her. I don't really know why I don't like her that much.
