I think it would've been awesome for Alex and Elaine to end up together at the end of the show. They had awesome chemistry. Did you know that Judd Hirsch and Marilu Henner actually dated in real life when the show was still in production??

Marilu Henner confirmed that in her autobiography from 1994 called By All Means Keep On Moving. She and Tony Danza also dated but called it quits before the first episode aired.

I'm glad Alex got a chance to hook up with Elaine in "Vienna Waits" but I'm not sure they would have made a good couple. To me they were just best friends and nothing more. Perhaps if the writers had toyed with an Alex and Elaine relationship a little more, I'd feel different.

As romantic as it is to think of Alex and Elaine ending up together I think they really are better just as friends.
