Thanx Brian for the inspiration for this thread. ;) This can be for any tv show, drama, soap, animated cartoon, kids shows, etc.

Welcome Back - WELCOME BACK KOTTER

I Don't Wanna Wait - DAWSON'S CREEK (this song annoyed me and it still does when I hear it played)

DORA THE EXPLORER   (kids show)

I'll Be There For You - FRIENDS

Dynasty
Fantasy Island
BJ and the Bear
Who's the Boss? (didn't really hate it, it just wasn't catchy)
Full House
The first season of the Facts of Life. The theme sounded like they were selling girl scout cookies.

Facts of Life  I agree. And Having Mrs. G. sing part of it too didn't help either.

Yes, Charlotte Rae did indeed sing a part of the first Facts of Life theme (1979-80), which ruined my liking of it. The second FOL theme (1980-85) sounded too "girly" to me, it's the third theme (1985-88) that's my favorite (and I'm probably in the minority on that). The third theme totally rocked!

I listened to the first theme again yesterday and I noticed you can kinda hear Gloria in the background. Thank God they changed it though. I love Charlotte Rae but the next two theme changes IMO were very much for the better.

I abhor the new theme for Guiding Light. The music is awful and the visual effects are so cheap IMO. I could make better visual effects with Windows Movie Maker 2!

It was so cheap looking, seriously. I could see them using that for a week or a month back when their 70th anniversary actually took place, but not for more than a year. That got old fast. I wish they had just brought back the 2005 theme.

who's the boss?- great show, but hated the theme song

friends- the rembrandts hit 'ill be there for you eventually grated on my nerves; as i was sick of this song being sung as a record and as a theme to the show, the more it was being played

hangin' with mr cooper- the second one, soul man just didn't work. should've stuck with the first one, the en vogue one

joey- ubber crap. nuff said

ewoks- cartoon series, the first one was just horrible. glad that the second one was much better and an improvement on the first

loved the 2005 theme! All time fave theme was from the '90s with the rotating lighthouse and seeing cast members in the bubbles/rings, esp the one with Beth Ehlers at the end (that was so SEXY!)

I cannot stand the All My Children theme song. I am old school. The dramatic theme they used during the early 80's was and always will be AMC's theme to me. Anything else is garbage.

From that site, I pretty much agree about Charles in Charge's syndicated theme. I think the first one is better. Though in their defense, by the time the show came back, for sitcoms, updating their theme to make it sound more "1980's" kinda started to become common. I have a difficult time imagining the Powell version with a gentler theme with string instruments.

Speaking of updating for the times, Diff'rent Strokes comes to mind. The first theme was better IMO. But I disagree with that person about one thing... I think Alan Thicke was a great theme composer.

Yes. It was the theme that I believe began in 1970 (around there) and continued I think til 1989 or 1990 with this book:

YESSS!

All the Scooby Doo theme songs w/ Scrappy Doo sucked big time, just like every Scooby Doo show w/ Scrappy in it!

Here's my other theme songs I didn't like:

Dear John - I always thought it sounded so syrupy!

Sanford and Son - I always thought that the harmonica in the theme song would grate my ears.

Wonder Years - I just couldn't get into the theme too much.

Now that I think about, it sure does! Or better yet, a promo for some awareness camp for girls or something like that!

I couldn't stand....

The Cosby Show(last season): It was a VERY bad idea to hip-hop the theme. Not only did it suck really bad, but we have to watch Bill and company, whom by the way, ever could dance to save their lives, dance to this hip-hop beat.

Alice: Linda Lavin's singing was so waaaay over the top, you would think she was Judy Garland or someone of that nature.

Dear John: Oh god, not only was this theme so sugary sweet, but the woman's singing made my ears bleed.

A Different World(the last season): It was bad enough that Cosby felt the need to hip-hop it up, but to take Aretha's version and replace her with Boyz 2 Men for a more modern hip-hop feel was awful. Boyz 2 Men at the time was everywhere, I did not need to hear them sing my theme every week.

Friends: Only because that song was everywhere at the time.
7th Heaven: Yawn.

Ireneparalegal

^^^ I agree with you on the DIFFERENT WORLD theme. I hated that Aretha's version was removed.

HANGIN' WITH MR. COOPER - I hated that Dawn Lewis had to be a part of that theme song simply because she was also a star of the show. And then, they had EN VOGUE to top it off. I love En Vogue, but if you are going to have them do the theme, don't add Dawn Lewis. puke:

I forgot about Hangin' with Mr. Cooper. My uncle said the same thing you said, he was also irked by her singing on "A Different World". I think there are some good versions but there are also a couple of really not so good ones. On a couple of them you either hear her voice cracking a little bit or you can tell her lips are pursed together too much, and it just makes her sound silly.

The CBS-era version of the Charles in Charge theme song was another theme I thought was creepy-sounding.

As for Hangin' w/ Mr. Cooper, As much as I liked "Soul Man" (the music), I thought "Soul Man" was out of place on this show. But I already knew this show jumped w/ that theme and S2. And the theme song and S3 and beyond really took the cake w/ this show.

Ugh, I hated the theme and the cartoon He-Man, probably because I was such a girly girl who was watching Jem and the Holograms at the time.

I love the My Little Pony theme, I used to drive my dad nuts singing it around the house.

I thought Captain Planet was kind of catchy, I used to baby-sit these kids who drove me up the wall chanting this song though, so yes, it got old real fast.

I am so glad that you brought TC up, because I don't like the theme to "The Ropers". It is catchy, but it is seriously awful. That trombone with the touch of vaudville does not cut it for me. The Three's Company instrumental that was used for a few episodes is even better than the other theme.

For my part I actually like the vaudeville Ropers theme. -- Probably because I haven't heard it too many times.

The TC closing instrumental, first two seasons, is actually pretty good. But, ugh, the jazzed-up openings season 4 and later....
