View Full Version : Something that ANNOYED me in the, "Black Jesus" episode...

Michael and Florida are arguing about the validity of Jesus being black and Michael takes Florida's bible, opens it up, flips a couple of pages and immediately finds the proverb that describes what Jesus looks like.

I defy anyone to do the same thing and see how long it takes you. LOL Also, Florida was a very religious woman. You mean to tell me that she didn't know about that part of the bible?

Knowing that Michael was all abt black this and black that, I am sure he made it a point to remember exactly the part of the scriptures where he knows the description of Jesus is at in the bible. Like he was ready to show anyone when the opportunity arose.

And yes, you are correct, as religious as Flo was, she surely would have known abt that description. I remembered that part of the bible from the very first time I had read abt and never forgot it. It is one of those things you don't forget.

Not to mention that he got the description from Revelation, which describes Jesus in that future/eternal glory sense. Not how he looked like while living as a man on Earth. Although I agree that most paintings etc are way off the mark. Still like Florida says, "this is the Jesus I know".

Ahhh, good point abt the description. ;)

Michael had to interject something abt all things black whenever he could.

Since Jesus and how he supposedly looks was brought up in this episode it would have been a good opportunity for the writers to have Florida say it is not how he looks, but if you have Him in your heart. Regardless, Jesus loved us all and we, like Him, should love Him regardless. How he looks has no bearing on His love for us.

Another time Michael brought up religion was when he told Florida, "If there is a God, why do we still live in the ghetto?" And some idiots in the audience said, "Right on!" and clapped. Gimme a break. In this episode Florida did mention having God in your heart.

My problem with that bible scene was that Michael did not turn far enough back in the bible to be reading revelation.

Good catch! It must have been the condensed version of King James.

Now, if Robert Reed had been in this show, he would have made damn sure that kid would have turned to the proper page. For those of you who are fans of the Brady Bunch, you will know Robert was a stickler and a perfectionist, things had to be just right or else.
