The new Get Smart film is hitting theaters on June 20th, starring Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway and Adam Arkin as Maxwell Smart, Agent 99, and The Chief. Also in are Dwayne Johnson, Terence Stamp and - according to the fine print on the poster credits - former Las Vegas honcho James Caan!

This isn't the first time Agent 86 will be in theaters, though! The first time was in 1980's film The Nude Bomb. Don Adams returned to the role he made famous in the 1965 television series, this time without Barbara Feldon as Agent 99. Instead he was joined by Dana Elcar (MacGyver, Baa Baa Black Sheep) as The Chief, Sylvia Kristel (Emmanuelle, Private School) as a sexy Agent 34, and Pamela Hensley (Buck Rogers, Matt Houston) as an equally easy-on-the-eyes Agent 35. Andrea Howard, however, is considered the most "99-like" in her role as Agent 22.

Universal Studios has announced the first-ever DVD release of The Nude Bomb, coming out on June 17th...just in time to compare to the new Steve Carell film. Cost will be $19.98 list price for the 95-minute feature, meaning you'll probably be able to score it for around $15 after your local store discounts it.

Don't forget, though, that the REAL gem is the Time-Life exclusive release of the original series! The award-winning Get Smart - The Complete Series 25-DVD set contains all 138 original episodes, and tons of extras. It's not in stores, though...you have to get it from Time-Life!

If you're a TRUE Get Smart completist, then you know about the 1989 one-shot telefilm called Get Smart, Again! (with Adams and Feldon), which has been available on DVD from various makers, and also the 1995 remake series with Adams and Feldon in their original roles (but older), and Andy Dick (NewsRadio) as their son, Zach. Zach is now the agent, while dad Max is now The Chief in this version. That one's not available on DVD, but that's probably okay with most of us.

As bad as the Nude Bomb was, at least it had some good moments like the deskmobile, and the hilariously dressed villain! :)

Interesting news.

We'll see how well sells go...

I didn't know Pamela Hensley was in this. That's pretty neat. I'm a big fan of Buck Rogers, but never did care too much for her role (only in Season One) as Princess Ardala.

according to www.wouldyoubelieve.com, the only 2 good things about "THE NUDE BOMB" were that the actor that played Larabie in the show also revised the role, and the banter between him and Max was funny.
