I was wondering why was Grady Living in The Sanford House when Reed Foxx was gone during his Contract Talk's.

Fred was visiting family in St. Louis and Grady was staying with Lamont to look after him during that time.

I know; that's what I've always considered odd about those episodes. I also remember thinking that's odd when those episodes first aired.

The only other hang up I have with that is to why does he need Grady to cook his meals for him as well? It was bad enough he needed his father to do it, but his father's friend?! Not for nothing, but Grady was nasty looking, I wouldn't trust him in the kitchen with my food or anyone else who didn't live there.

I agree, it is a silly premise to consider that a 30-something year old man needs someone to look after him while his father is away for a few weeks.

They must've figured they needed to do something to keep the some interesting story lines going. Although no one can replace Fred, I think the Grady eps are pretty good.

Considering that Lamont was working out on the truck most of the day the only real reason that Grady was needed there was to look after the junkyard.

I still feel that Bubba would have been a much better replacement

I totally agree if you forget that this is just a show then it is a business!
Grady was needed to look after the store and answer the phone, take orders etc.
Lamont did the pickups and deliveries.
I don't see anything wrong with Fred preparing Lamont's meals after all he has to get an early start to get the best junk!

I think Grady was basically running the house while Lamont was running the junkyard. I think Grady just cleaned, cooked, got the mail, ran errands, etc. But I DO agree that Lamont should've cooked his own meals!!!!!

Of course, one of the best episodes (IMO) is a Grady episode, "Fred's Treasure Garden" (the one with the "wild parsley" growing in the garden). That one is hilarious ;) Especially when Lamont and Rollo are discussing how to get rid of it.

^ :grady: I'd love to see someone air "Wild Parsley", Barney Miller's "Hash" and Taxi's "Latka's Cookies" all in a row. That would be wild!!!!

Wasn't Grady fixing a meal for them both? I imagine Lamont had some long days out on the truck and Grady was watching over the place during the day, so why not make dinner for them both?

Fred was always butting into Lamont's life in some fashion, so why on earth would it be feasible that he would leave Lamont free reign of "his empire"? It made sense that he had one of his cronies keep things as he wanted them while he was gone. So, was Grady just going to cook his own dinner and leave Lamont to his own devices? That would have been rude.

I think everyone should just kick back, relax and enjoy some Steak-a-Rice-a-Roni-Beannie with a cold (clean) jelly jar of Champipple!
