Have you ever wanted to give up everything in life to own an out-of-the-way inn in Vermont where your only friends and neighbors are, simply put, insane? Well, if you are Dick Loudon, you might just want to do that, and that is exactly who Bob Newhart plays in the 1980s series Newhart! And now, the first season of the series is available on DVD in a three disc set. Mary Frann plays his wife Joanna and Tom Poston plays the often-confused handyman George. The first season has a slightly different cast from the cast that was in place for all of the other seasons, with Steve Kampmann as neighbor Kirk and Jennifer Holmes as Leslie, the nice and sweep housekeeper of the Stratford Inn... quite a change from her cousin Stephanie, who would take over in season two!

In this review, skees53 wasn't entirely sure if Fox had edited anything but it appeared to be (for the most) unedited. Has anyone noticed anything that they might have edited from this Season 1 release? If not, does anyone see any music issues or any other rights issues that may arise in subsequent season releases to which Fox won't clear?

I'm cautious when it comes to Fox TV-on-DVD, so I wanted to double-check before I purchase the first season of "Newhart". This was one of my childhood favorites (and they've already screwed up the first season of "The Fall Guy" last year with a large amount of music replacement and horrible editing), so I don't want to see Fox butcher this classic. Thanks.

I just checked this set out of the library and am thoroughly enjoying it. Favorite moments so far: Kirk takes the lie detector test, Stephanie comes to visit, and Dick watches TV - you can hear the theme song to The Bob Newhart Show. "It's my favorite program."
