Title of sitcom where main character was continuosly day-dreaming old '40/'50 movies

Hi all,

I am desperately looking for the title of a sitcom dating back late '90 (or maybe beginning of '00). In the sitcom the main character was living his life continuosly day-dreaming scenes of old 1940/1950 american movies as if the characters of the movies were acting in relation to the sitcom events.

Unfortunately I don't even remember the name of the actor and I only recall ithat the sitcome has been briefly shown in Italy during 2002 or 2003.

It was called "Dream On" it aired on HBO in the 90's. :)
