Inspired by the message at the heart of The Note, the Hallmark Channel movie she stars in this Saturday at 9 pm/ET, Genie Francis wants to make amends with any General Hospital fans who to this day — decades after the fact — were disappointed to see her quit the sudser at the peak of her popularity. "I know that Laura [Baldwin Spencer] meant a great deal to many people, and still does," says Francis. "I've long regretted not taking the fans into account when making the hasty decision to leave the show.
"Forgiveness and reconciliation are at the core of The Note, and filming it forced me to look inside myself at certain decisions in my past.... Right now I want to reach out to all of my fans and say that I'm sorry. I'm sorry for leaving you so abruptly, for not taking into account the feelings of the people who helped Laura truly take on a life of her own.
"It was the decision of a young, impetuous girl," Francis says in closing, "and the woman she has become asks for your forgiveness."

I don't think she needs to apologize - the "brain trust" at GH needs to. Jill Farren Phelps and Robert Guza have been poison to that show!! In any case, I have always been a fan of both Genie and Laura. I'm so happy Genie has found a happy family life, a happy life in Maine running her own business, and has finally won an Emmy. I can't wait to see The Note.
I read the novel The Note several years back. It was a very good story, and I have no doubt that Genie will be terrific in the movie. :D

After knowing what Phelps has done to Another World and Guiding Light, I feel ever so sorry for General Hospital fans.

She never learns, either.

It's interesting though. When she was with Santa Barbara, she won that show Emmy after Emmy. But GL, AW, and now GH soon would become trainwrecks after her starting on those series. I wonder what happened.

I think it's because she lets her own personal agenda take over. She always kills off beloved characters played by beloved veterans (i.e. Maureen Bauer on GL, Ryan Harrison on AW, too many to mention on GH). Plus she makes the shows much darker and violent. If I want to watch dark, depressing stuff I'll watch the news. That's why I gave up watching GH. I'd had it with the gun fights, explosions, fires and the like. I predict that's why a lot of other people stopped watching, too.
