We've all been waiting for a year now for season 5 to be released to DVD. While there are no signs of this release, I found something interesting on the iTunes Music Store. The first three seasons are available for download. Other MTM shows are now available too, including Lou Grant, Hill Street Blues and St. Elsewhere.

Here's the interesting part: Only seasons 1 & 2 of "Hill Street" are out on DVD. However, season 3 is available for download! Could this mean seasons 5, 6 & 7 of Bob Newhart will soon be available for download? Possibly. While I'd like to have these final seasons on DVD, I'll take downloads over having nothing at all!

Some of us would go through a learning curve, learning how to download something and then burn it to a DVD-R. And then hope that your DVD player will play it. (One of ours will play a DVD-R, the other will not.)

I still really wish Fox would just release the last two seasons already - they're over halfway done, for pete's sake!!

Not likely to happen anytime soon; Fox is trying out a new Newhart property on DVD before season five: NEWHART. I suppose if that sells well, they'll be more persuaded to release the penultimate seasons of the original.

Let's hope so. Keep in mind that Season 1 of Newhart was shot on tape (not film like seasons 2-8), was pre-Julia Duffy/Peter Scolari, and there was much less of Larry, Darryl and Darryl. So if it turns out to be a poor seller, I don't see them releasing Season 2, let alone the last 2 seasons of TBNS. Well, only time will tell!!
