A friend of mine is a very high ranking VIP at cbs in hollywood, I also am friendly with 2 members of the production staff. I am closer with the executive then I am with the members of the production staff, but none the less I talk to both of these people multiple times every week. Plus I am friendly with someone who knows the producer of the show Roger Dobkowitz. I personally do not talk to roger although I have met him dozens of times when I am at the show in LA

COOL. I have no question but just wanted to say TPIR did the right thing in choosing Drew Carey. They obviously tested many to try and replace Bob, and found Drew to be down to earth, funny and overall the best man for the job. I feel he is doing a great job and I know he has to work out some of his quirks, like the microphone being too close to his mouth and the hand playing with the pocket thingy, but overall, he is doing so good considering the legion of Bob fans who were sad to see Bob leave.

I don't have the official ratings, but it is my understanding that drews first show did very very well, not quite as good as Bob Barkers last week of shows, but still very respectable. The ratings then slowly declined over the next 4 days. The show will always be a ratings machine for CBS. Let me get the official numbers & I will get back to you.

Also, CBS did a lousy job of letting folks know that they were taping again. Most of the summer they had no ticket plugs during the reruns & it wasn't until more than 10 days into Drew Tapings in August did they begin doing ticket plugs for the new show. They had to resort to paying audience members to attend the show. There were also a few empty seats in the corner of studio for more than 1 taping. Now that the new shows are airing this will no longer be an issue but I found that very interesting.

When Bob was the host you had to line up hours & sometimes days in advance to get into the show, now you can basically show up the morning of & get in, no problem.

All the indications are that Drew is in this for the long haul. One thing I know for sure is that Drew is having fun doing the show & he is very well liked on the set & he is getting paid very well. Unless something unforseen happens I say Drew is the host of the show into the next decade.

Agreed Irene, I am liking the show more & more each day, When you have someone host the show for as long as Bob did, it takes a while to get used to the new kid on the block. I see alot of good things in Drews Style. He is attempting to make the show his own while at the same time keeping the show the same. I have him under a microscope, watching his every move & comparing it to bob & that is not fair to him. BOB is bob & drew is drew, this is the new era & in time I think everyone will grow accustomed to him.

He does have to fix that microphone issue, that is very annoying & yes he does have a few quirks, but as long as he has his price fundamentals down, he will be fine!

When Bob was the host, he was also the executive producer & he also had somewhat of a finanical interest as well. Bob was compensated for all the reruns that ran thru the summer, but now Bob has no affiliation with the show at all except for the memories we all have of him as host.

Bob has no say on what Drew does as host. The new executive producer Syd vinnedge plays that role now.

Well said. That is a great way of putting it. Drew is letting the contestants have the spotlight. Drew is there no matter what, these contestants are there for a certain amount of time playing a game, spinning the wheel and if they are the lucky one, they move onto the showcase showdown. The show has always been abt the contestants.

I have been missing TPIR for what will be three days now because of the continuous news coverage of the fires here. :(

What a surprise, they actually aired TPIR instead of news of the fires.

Today's episode, Drew got to use the Plinko stink for the first time. He even said that. What's more, he got to use it again right after that as the chip became stuck again.

Seeing Drew jumping up and down when that girl won was so cute. She also jumped up on him! She definitely was excited to win.

It was funny though. I don't remember the Plinko clip being stuck this much before. It was fun seeing the Plinko stick again.

If you can, you can catch the episodes on cbs.com now as well. They put the newest episode online by 6 PM (ET) and they stay there for the whole week.

Great! Here's another question for you:

TPIR is my favorite game show but I haven't watched it daily throughout the years like some people who post on this website. Well as a diehard fan of the show I can see why people who watch the show reguarly would feel that way, but I have a " backstage view" as well & the show has been stacked to the max with commericals in the last 5 years because the show is such a money maker for cbs. It is the hosts responisiblity to keep the show on time & when you have a contestant who is dragging things out on stage during the game for whatever reason, the show falls behind on time. So the time has to be made up at some point & it is usually during the 4th pricing game. If you notice, more often than not they have a very simple quick game placed in that 4th slot to allow BOB & now Drew to play catch up if needed. So although it appears that bob is being quick with the contestants, sometimes his hand is forced. If the show is running long your going to see that. Roger usually schedules the " longer games" in the early part of the show & rarely at the end.

Thanks for the reply! That's very interesting information. I had not ever thought about the contestants and the amount of commercials as being an
issue for the show but now I understand how that works. I'll be watching TPIR more closely from now on to spot these things. :)

From What I understand, the reaction has been mostly positve for Drew. The Diehard lifelong fans are having a tough transition from BOB to DREW. The lines for the show have been getting longer & longer in the last few weeks since the show has been airing. It is tough to gauge the pulse of price fans, but let me ask my friend in hollywood that very question Later today, he is one of the people responsible fro picking drew so if anyone knows, its him :)

I can tell you from my personal interactions with people who watch the show, the reactions have all been the same, Drew looks goofy up there, looks unsure of himself but has good contestant interaction. Everyone is giving him time, which is what needs to happen. Jay leno went thru the same thing in 92 when he took over for Johnny & look how that has turned out.

Irene I spoke to my friend this afternoon & he said there is not an overwhelming amount of mail coming in, but he said the break down is about 60/40 in the positve direction. He said there have been no real horrible letters that he has seen, but the complaints are all the same. Drew doesn't do the price basics & he needs to explaint he rules better. Very few that he has read have trashed him, but he has gotten alot of HE'S not BOB

Well, of course he isn't Bob. Bob was a great host, and I think some fans are just saying their initial reactions about Drew instead of giving him more time to progress. I think he's doing a good job out there. He's funny, and seems pretty calm now (much calmer than he was his first few episodes) and just seems to be having a great time.

Because Drew is new, and in order to keep him from making too many mistakes, they've agreed that he's only learning groups of pricing games over time. This fact is also why the episodes have been airing WAY out of production order so far this season.
----
Big news at "The Price Is Right." If you've been a contestant, you can play again.

The long-running game show has revised the rule that if you played once on air, you can never play again.

There is an important restriction, though: You can't play again if you were a contestant in the past 10 years.

Season 30 was the last time they had " full time models" They were niki zeiring, clauida jordan (now on deal or no deal) & heather Kozar. Ever since then they have been having " regular models" but on a rotating basis. Nothing happened on that show that Bob didn't approve of or give his ok on. Please correct me if I'm way off base with this comment. It's only my theory.

It seems to me that Bob Barker was very concerned with the image of TPIR and that he went to great lengths to make sure that it had appeal for family viewing. I often thought because of the internet, it now would allow any of the models to have their own website where they could advertise that they are on TPIR and start to generate a fan base and following and therefore take the focus off the contestants (who are the real stars of the show) and call attention to themselves. So I'm thinking that Bob Barker and the producers, in order to prevent any of the models from taking center stage, only allow them a short life span on the show. What do you think?

Thanks! I get it!!! My original comment would have been worded in a different way but I didn't want to put a "certain person" on TPIR in a negative light so I shifted the focus a little bit. I pretty much know what the bulls-eye would be on this topic. :D

Did anyone catch Drew Carey on 20/20 last night? He was being interviewed abt his successful career and how it led him to TPIR. Great interview.

Eastern, Central, and Mountain time zones. All 3 get 3 episodes (though the Mountain time zone's scheduling is a bit different than the Eastern and Central time zones' schedule). Pacific time zone gets nothing.

Airing new episodes in a situation where the West Coast wouldn't get to see them at all just wouldn't make much sense now, would it?

Nope...not at all at least they were thinking straight making that decision... There was talk behind the scenes about airing drews first ever taped show that day when a whole time zone wouldn't see it..LOL

Okay, I'm watching now. I haven't watched the show in two weeks, because it's really not good, IMO. But now I'm constantly being reminded of why I don't like Drew Carey as host.

WHY does he constantly use awkward, uncomfortable small-talk? At the beginning of today's episodes (and the one from two weeks ago), he mumbled some nonsense about how the show is the "happiest place on Earth" and then he proceeded to give the exact address of the studio...you know...the thing they give out during the show for ticket ordering.

And then this guy gets to Contestants' Row and Drew tells him "Hey, this is the best job in the world. I love it." But he says it so unconvincingly, as if he's trying to make people believe that he enjoys the job.

Todd Newton, you should be pissed off, my friend.

Just yesterday, there was a contestant named Karina who I thought was very likeable, she won $13,100 playing Plinko, $1,000 on the Showcase Showdown wheel, and then she won her showcase at the end! I thought that was nice.

THe easiest & quickest way to do it is on the cbs.com website. Just click on shows, then find the price is right & then fill out all the info. If you happen to be in LA you can also stop by & pick up tickets in person @ their ticket window.

What is the process for picking the people from the audience to play the game (random by way of computer selection or picking the name from a box full of filled out cards)?

Each one of the 320 audience members gets about 10-15 seconds with one of the price staffers Stan Blitts, he asks you who you are, where your from, etc etc & from that he selects about 12-15 potential contestants then he narrows it down to the 9 you see on tv.

They are looking for a cross section of america, but they want people who will be good on tv & not someone who will be dull & mopey

It is in no way random, the only thing that is random is a door prize drawing at the end of the show. One of the models picks a name out of a bowl & if its your name you win a 100 bucks!!!!

That's very interesting information. I didn't know about that before. It was always my belief that picking the contestants was random. Thanks for the information.

By the way, what do you think of Drew after more than a month as the new host. I have to be honest and say that so far he doesn't seem to be suited for the job. I wonder if CBS regrets their choice. What do you think? Will they keep him or is there a possibility of a replacement.

The problem I am having my friend is that he is not BOB BARKER, I am so used to the way BOB does things, BOB BARKER is the price is right.

My opinion of Drew is this, I think he has learned the games very quickly, he jokes a bit to much about the prizes, which trust me is not a good thing. Its only a matter of time before major advertisers start pulling out of the show because Drew is making fun of the products.

I really like how excited Drew gets with the contestants, I Like when he jumps up & down with them, i think that is kind of his staple so far, that is his thing so to speak.

Overall I am adjusting to Drew, I think he is growing into the position, like i said a month or so ago, it may take me this entire season to get used to the fact BOB is not hosting the show anymore.

As far As Whether CBS is happy, the answer to that question is Yes, they are happy with him & unless something unexpected happens Drew is the man for the next 4 + seasons.

According to one of my friends on the set, Drew is a wonderful guy to work with, very friendly, very professional & despite what he says in interviews, he takes it very seriously!

Thank you for a very nice reply. I appreciate it. Perhaps I spoke too soon because I feel the same way about Bob Barker being TPIR. I'm used to the way he did the show and it's hard to watch Drew in Bob's place. It just may as well take me the entire season to accept that Bob is gone and that Drew is the new host.

I'm glad you brought up the point about Drew making fun of the products because I noticed that before and often wondered how is it that the major advertisers except that being said about their products. No doubt that the producers are bringing that to Drew's attention.

Anyways, I'm glad that Drew has 4+ seasons left. I desire to see him his make mark with TPIR but I will always miss Bob because I had watched him since my childhood.

I've got many more questions to ask but I'll give you a break for the
holidays!

OK! Thanks!!! Here's another question for you. When someone ends up getting tickets to attend a taping of the show do they allow cameras to be brought into the studio so that you could take pictures after the taping is done? I often wondered about that. Also, do you have any personal pics of TPIR that you could post in this thread. It would be interesting to see photos that are not your typical stock pics from the internet.

Cameras are not allowed in the studio unless you have what is known as a camera pass. Only " vips" can get one of those & it has to be authorized by Roger Dobkowitz. No audience member is allowed to bring a camera, if you have one, you have to check it in with security just prior to entering studio 33

I do have many rolls of pics of my trips to price but none of them i can post, they were all taken prior to me getting my digital camera. I am going out to visit the show in feb so I will bring my new camera along & I will take some good pics!!!!

I've been watching Price every day since Drew began. He really keeps me entertained throughout the whole show. Drew is doing really well for his first year. I'm sure by his third season he will be an excellent host. We need to give Drew time and not give up on Price yet.
