“My character, he’s an ex-jock and he’s trying to pull himself into the 20th century,” said Willard. “I think he sides a little more with Kelsey’s character than with Patty’s. he likes the fact that there’s a female co-anchor but he considers it sort of a novelty on the part of when Bill Veeck sent a midget up to bat for the St. Louis Browns, but it’s interesting. It helps ratings but let’s see how it works out. For the hard news, let’s listen to Chuck.”

Josh Gad plays the station manager trying to reign everything in. “For me, it’s great to play somebody as neurotic as Ryan Church, which is ironic in and of itself in that I’m an absolute Jew,” said Gad. “It’s great to bounce of Kelsey and have this energy come up against you at the same time running his news station, so that’s the joy for me.”

Ayda Field plays the weather anchor, playing on stereotypes of sexy yet ditzy chicks in front of green screens. "I just love that this character is not one dimensional," Field said. "She’s got this desperation that I find very interesting and compelling. That’s it for me, someone who is kind of this really confident woman who has all these people wrapped around her but at the same time she’s this insecure, desperate woman who is coming from a real place. I like the combination of that."

And Ty Burrell plays the field reporter who is often left out of the action. "My character is kind of like the guy with a dream deferred," said Burrell. "His dream is to one day be the aging Lothario. One day maybe I’ll get that."
