Ok we have discussed that fourth wall or window we seen in the first season with the new neighbors episode. Madame X graciously posted pics for us to see that great view of Ethel and Lucy at the window hanging out and looking at the new neighbors move in.

Yesterday, I seen the Superman episode and for a brief time, we see that wall again. Ricky is screaming out of the window to Lucy who is on the ledge with Superman -where the piano is situated- and we can clearly see the fourth wall behind him. However, there is no window on that wall. Although it can be argued this was a different apartment than the one in season one. You can see a picture/painting hanging on that wall.

Good I, eye. I mean, good eye, I!

I guess they had to put that wall up again so we couldn't see the studio audience in the background.

I don't think that ledge was actually behind the window in their living room set as that would be backstage. I think they created the ledge on another part of the stage with the illusion that it's the same window. Besides, from the angle of the camera, wouldn't that painting be hanging somewhere on the wall between the living room and the kitchen? It seems like we should be seeing a door or shutters in that shot.

If we were looking straight through the window over the piano (this shot), then we should see the "4th wall."

Thank you Stacy for posting that pic. There it is, the 4th wall. Of course, the audience remains in the same spot as always, however, we are given the illusion that we are now seeing the apartment in the opposite view.

Also, the 4th wall appears to be real close. As if Ricky could turn around and walk a few steps and touch that wall. I realize they were not thinking abt "reality" and the wall should be further away. I guess they were thinking, we need to give the illusion of a wall in the background.

Yeah, that wall is way too close, it looks as though they're standing in a hallway or something. And what happened to all the curtains and stuff that are seen in these pictures (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showpost.php?p=3673265&postcount=4)? (Credit goes to Madame X for that of course, ;) ) I guess they really weren't thinking about reality, as you mentioned...

Exactly, it is small like a hallway. Thank you.
