Next week's episode:
Kelly doesn't believe that Chuck has a good sense of caretaking and responsibility that would be necessary to take care of a child. So, when Chuck is given a goldfish as a pet, he's determined on having the goldfish keep up an illusion of being happy - and alive. To do this, he gets the help of the news director Ryan

Just an FYI to people who live on the West Coast or Tivo the show for another day...
AVOID THIS THREAD until you actually see it.
It isn't fair for others not to discuss the show until late or another day.

What you could do is have everybody write in spoiler tags ...
Chuck does something funny ...
all you do is type [ SPOILER ] stuff [/ SPOILER ] without the spaces in between the brackets.
They could be removed afterwards, but they wouldn't need to be ...

I hear what you are saying, but that is a little unfair for people who watched the show to put everything in spoiler tags. I really think the best thing to do is avoid posting until you actually see the episode. :)

Not giving any spoilers or anything, doesn't sound like the greatest episode to be airing. Especially at this point, where BTY will be beginning to get a fanbase. They should have stuck with the newsroom for the second episode . . .

I agree. That's what I thought to myself too. Hopefully, there is still a lot of newsroom activity.

That's right. A "Spoiler" warning in the thread title is sufficient. Message boards are for members to discuss shows that have aired. If I haven't watched a show, I don't go to that forum. It's not fair for people in different times zones to expect others to wait until they've seen the show to discuss it.
I was looking forward to discussing the first episode. I went to the thread, and I saw a post from someone on the West Coast telling others not to post certain things. I made a see you later post , and found another message board, and and posted away and had some fun. I didn't sit around and wait for three hours.

I totally agree. Their's no reason for members who have seen the episode to not talk about the show after it's been aired. I might not actually watch the show until Thursday once all the other programs premiere and it isn't right for others not to have fun discussing it. I just won't come into the thread. until later. I don't think using the spoiler tag is appropriate either. That's supposed to be used like once in awhile...not for the whole thread. Members have to have self control to stay away or it's their own fault.

I agree with you. The show is funny, we all know that, so I could care less what happens. But, for people like Solomon, who hated the idea of the seriousness, it isn't the best episode to be airing.

Personally, I don't know how this'll be. I think it needs a good and fair mix of newsroom and family/home comedy. Just newsroom is kind of a bad balance in a way. They should do both. Have a newsroom scene, have a family scene, newsroom, family, etc. etc. etc. if you catch my drift.

I agree too. Murphy Brown had her share of home scenes. Going way back, the Dick Van Dyke Show blended work and family quite well.

Yeah, there definitely needs to be a balance between the characters' work and home lives.
And I know some may not agree with me, but I also think a little serious moment here and there helps keep the show grounded in reality (I'm not saying we need a serious scene in every single episode, but it would be nice to see one here and there).

If you're talking about balancing between work and home, Murphy Brown isn't really the best example. Murphy Brown was basically a show about journalism in the newsroom. We only had a few home scenes . . . which is what I wish Back to You would focus on doing. If we have majority of the show at home, I'm not gonna like that.

Murphy Brown definintely focused heavily on the newsroom, but I recall plenty of scenes in her home.

I enjoyed the episode. I love the banter between Grammer and Heaton. They have undeniable chemistry. The goldfish storyline was silly, but still generated some laughs. LOL at the field reporter getting tasered. Marsh aka Williard was funny with his ring tone.
Kelly: I'd put her in a basket and float her down a river before I'd let you play parent (or something like that).
Some funny sexual banter in the opener that had me cracking up. I think this show's a keeper, or I should say I'm going to keep watching it at long as it airs, if it keeps the momentum going.

Overall, another good episode. I'm definitely in it for the long run (hoping there is a long run). I was laughing just as much as I did last week. And like others, last week I was questioning the workplace/home life balance and the little serious moments between Cuck and Kelly. I'm sticking to my original thought: They're both a good thing!
Last week also brought up certain stuff about the young Director guy and Montana not being needed....Well, I think they're needed. We saw more of them this week. And even if they aren't connected to the main plot each week, they're both still great for laughs. And how would a news show go on with no Director or weathergirl, I mean "meteorologist?" ;)

Good points, I think Montana and Ryan will generate a lot of laughs. Somehow, I see Gary Cryzezewski (or however it is spelled) will be a running gag every week where he gets roughed up somehow.

Episode Recap: "Fish Story"
An alternate title for this episode could have been, "One fish, two fish, overfed fish, fried fish." I doubt PETA will be particularly thrilled with the outcome of the story. Me? I just kind of want to go out for seafood. While the fish-as-child metaphor was not exactly subtle (or original — they did it on Frasier in the episode "Flour Child," leading to Niles' wonderful line, "After all, a real child would have cried before it burst into flames"), it did create an almost Stooge-like backdrop for what was actually a pretty heavy topic: Is it healthy to everyone involved for Gracie to spend time with Chuck? It's obvious they will, and luckily for her, small as she might be, Gracie won't fit in a coffee cup.
The writers could have had no idea that a story about tasers would be so relevant when this episode was in development, so this was quite fortuitous timing. I'm glad there's a force out there bringing such screamingly funny physical comedy around once in a while, reminding us that taser-related sitcom storylines will never go out of style. If taking a "Whale Stopper" to the chest doesn't restore Gary Crezyzewski's macho credentials after the unfortunate baby-llama ear-munching incident, I'm not sure there's much hope left for him. In any case, bravo to Ty Burrell for going whole-hog in that scene.
Marshall and Montana had some really delightful interactions this week; only Fred Willard could throw away a line like, "Oh, Montana, would you see if you can get this orange in my pants without me knowing it?" instead of hammering it into the viewers' skulls, and I'm really enjoying the way Ayda Field has toned Montana down to be less of a cartoon and more of a true supporting character. Ditto for news director Ryan.
The bottom line is this: I liked the first episode, but I was cautious. Now I'm starting to get a feel for where this show's going and I have to admit, I'm dropping my guard. The first five minutes of dialogue were undeniably painful (to wit: "I'm sorry if I invaded your space by a few inches." "At least this time it won't get me pregnant."), but after that funky credit sequence, the episode hit its stride. So yes, it may indeed have been, "the bloodiest day in fish history," but it was also a strong second showing for the gang at WURG.

I thought this episode was hilarious! IMO, better than the Pilot, with a lot more laughs. There were just so many funny continuing storylines here, with Marsh and the magic trick (loved it when he asked Montana to put it down his pants-LOL), Gary and the Taser, and of course the 4 (I think it was 4_ dead goldfish. The ending, though, how Kelly thought she killed the goldfish, was kind of predictable, but still funny.
Wow, is this show going down fast. I was expecting a little over 8 million, and possibly 7.5 for next week, but this is just disappointing for a second episode. If FOX does not want to see this show go down even more, I suggest moving it to a different slot immediately. Dancing with the Stars definitely killed it this week (will it be Wednesday nights regularly?), and Pushing Daisies will kill it in the weeks to come. If they leave BTY where it is, I can definitely see it going below 7 million. 4th place in one half hour is pretty bad if you ask me. It was even below Kid Nation, which it edged out last week.
Looks like ABC is definitely winning over this season already. They already have a hit with Private Practive and soon to be Pushing Daisies, semi-hits with Dirty Sexy Money and Boston Legal, plus the big returning series like Dancing with the Stars, Grey's Anatomy, and Desperate Housewives

yeah, they definitely have their one style of the characters. They both have wonderful chemistry with each other. It's just too bad more people aren't watching to see how great this show really is!
One more thing I didn't mention. This episode really started reminding me of Murphy Brown the entire way through. First off, the table meeting. In most episodes of MB, they would always get around a table every morning to discuss future story ideas, which is exactly what they did this episode. Also, Kelly was really starting to act like Murphy here, needing to have her own way with things. On the other hand, Ryan is almost exactly like Miles, and Montana is similar to Corky. 2 very similar shows here.

I think the fish story was weak. But I did laugh at the pumpkin scene and at the news director interaction with chuck. Also I liked creative physical comedywhen The news director walked into the office causing gracie to drop the fish bowl on the floor. Pointless physical comedy was the reporter involved in the taser gun scene. Too stupid to comment on.
Overall show still watchable and hopefully better episode topics in the future of fall

Do me a favor Pav, this isn't an ABC board, so please stop hyping ABC shows on here. Ok, we get it, Pushing Daisies, best of the year, Dirty Sexy Money, your guilty pleasure, Private Practice, a sure fire hit. You hate reality shows, buuuuuuut you like Dancing With the Stars because of the celebrities. riiiiight. I would appreciate if you give the ratings good or bad and leave the rest of the ABC hype machine behind. :)
Well, first of all I'm new to this forum so hello everyone .I read the comments daily but this is my first time posting.
I think the show is very good and it's a shame that the ratings went down this week. I think BTY is suffering because of the very poor lineup that FOX has on Wednesday. If you see all the other networks have solid lineups that kind of complement eachother. FOX has left Back to You on its own paired with the very weak Til' Death and Kitchen Nightmares.
I still think that the real test for BTY will be in it's 4th and 5th episode after things have settled down with other shows and the much buzzed about Pushing D. is in its third episode when we can see if it will live up to the hype. Otherwise, FOX better finds a way to fix thing by either puting BTY to another day and time or by pairing it with some good shows, like house.
Without disrespecting anyone, as I'm the newbie here, I have to second what Brian Damage said. I was going through the comments to see what people thought about the second episode of BTY and thought I was in the wrong thread  I had to doublecheck there for a moment

I totally agree with you about the Fox lineup. Their is no other sitcom on Fox to compliment BTY except Till Death which is a flop and so BTY is really out on it's own. I also think you have to wait a few weeks until the ratings have evened out to see how good or bad they really are.

I can see if he said the ratings were going down (which they did), but the show itself has been good. And only 2 episodes aired, so how can you really judge a whole show with "going downhill fast?" That's 1 hour of a show. It's unfair to say something like that, so early on.

I responded to that comment as well. "This show is going downhil fast." Are we all watching the same show? I can see if he said the ratings were going down (which they did), but the show itself has been good. And only 2 episodes aired, so how can you really judge a whole show with "going downhill fast?" That's 1 hour of a show. It's unfair to say something like that, so early on.
That comment was just asinine in my opinion. Hey, it is week 2, look out, the show is DOOMED! lol
I think it would be better to have a single ratings thread. That way those who wish to discuss and debate the ratings can do it there. Those who want to discuss the episodes can do it in the individual thread.

To be honest TJ, I didn't even understand why the ratings were put in this thread. I don't mind debating ratings, that can be fun to do, but the constand ABC billboarding is a bit much.
I've merged about 30 ratings related posts into the giant ratings thread. Let the debate continue, lol.

TJ, I don't mind a debate, but can you imagine if I went on his ABC thread and started hyping this show or any other show. It isn't right.

It's a riot how nobody ever gets Gary's last name straight. Even when he had a zillion volts running through his body, he still corrected, or tried to anyway, the guy who messed up his last name.
That was funny, he drooled while doing it too. LMAO

I think the episode started out a little slow, but man did it gain momentum as it went on.
Fred Willard's Marsh character is becoming my favorite character on this show. Him pouring coffee in the cup had me LOL!
Someone call me I made it my ringtone
