the accident

ok guys i wrote this about a month ago. it's my 2nd one. hope you like it. respond and tell me what you think.


(jo is driving blair's car) (talking to herself)
j: i can't believe she made me take her car just to pick up her stupid dress. i shouldn't have offered. ya try to be nice to someone and they....(oncoming car swerves into jo's lane. the car flips twice, jo hits her head on the steering wheel before the car halts in someone's front yard.)
j: ow--oh my stomach! (grabs her stomach) (a couple of minutes go by) (a paramedic approaches her)
P: hey are you ok?
j: ya, i think so. i'm very sore though
p: we'll get you out of there as soon as we can
j: good! oh hey, how's the other driver?
p: well uh...he didn't...uh...make it.
j: oh no!
p: he was drunk you are lucky to be alive. most people wouldn't live through that
j: thanks look don't call my family ok?
p: ok but we are taking you to the hospital to make sure you are ok then you can go home
j: ok (winces in pain) thank you

-later-at home-
(jo walks in with a black eye)
mg: oh hi j....jo what happened to you?
j: oh it's nothing (says while trying to cover her eye) i was in a slight accident (emphasizing slight while trying to convince herself)
mg: are you sure you are ok?
j: yes my stomach hurts a little but worse, blair's car is totaled. she is going to kill me. it's her brand new porsche she got last month. (really starting to worry)
mg: as long as your alright
j: ya they took me to the hospital and said everything was ok except for a few bruises and this black eye (pointing to her right eye) i'm still a little tired.
mg: why don't you go and rest, do you want me to bring some lunch up to you?
j: no thanks mrs. g. i'm not that hungry (holds stomach and begins to walk upstairs, but stops) oh and mrs. g. don't tell blair about her car. i will.....later. all you know is i'm upstairs.
mg: alright jo. (says with a wink and a nod)

t: i'm telling you mrs. garret, that class was so boring.
n: what are you talking about, i found it very insightful.
t: you would.(turns to mrs. garret) it was about proper journalism techniques (fake yawns)
b: i don't know about you all but i met....tom! (in a dreamy voice)
n: figures! (blair gives her the wait til later stare)
b: hey mrs. garret, where's jo? she was supposed to be in that class also.
mg: oh she's upstairs
b:do you know if she at least picked up my dress?
mg: i'm not sure
b: i'll go find out. (goes upstairs)
mg: tootie, natalie. can you come help me in the shop?
n: oh alright! (whisper to tootie) i thought we could sneak away.
t: oh well let's go.

-bedroom-

(blair enter the room and looks around for her dress, she doesn't see it)
b: great! she doesn't get my dress, she doesn't show up for that class, and now she is asleep! (said like she was very annoyed) jo, what did you do today? (turns to jo who appears to be asleep facedown on her bed) jo! jo! wake up....answer me. c'mon! (notices jo's eye) you have a black eye...what happened? why won't you wake up?
(now getting very upset and yells downstairs)
MRS. GARRET, NATALIE, TOOTIE...HURRY UP! PLEASE! (all three run into the room)
mg: blair, what's wrong?
b: (starting to cry) it's jo, she won't wake up and she's very pale.
t: natalie...your dad's a doctor...what's wrong with her?
n: gee tootie let me get my medical bag and find out(sarcastically) my dad's the doctor not me.
mg: both of you just go get the car, we need to get jo to the hospital right away.
n&t: okay
b: do you know what happened, mrs. garret?
mg: well jo said she was in a slight accident, but that she was ok...except...
b: what!?!
mg: well she was complaining of pain in her stomach. i should have listened to her. (getting upset) it's all my fault.
b:no, mrs. garret. there was no way for you to know. she went to the hopital before, didn't she?
mg: well yes...
b: then it's not your fault.
(mrs. garret sits down next to jo on the bed and takes her hand)
mg: jo please don't leave us
b: does she have a pulse?
mg: yes but it's very faint.
b: let's get her into the car. i'll take her right arm and you take her left. we will try to carry her.


that's all for now i'm kinda sick from playing softball in the cold bye

(mrs. garret is driving, tootie is sitting upfront, jo is in back between blair and nat and she is leaning on blair wihle nat is fanning her with a map she found in the car)
mg: how's she doing, blair?
b: pretty much the same
t: i still don't understand what happened.
n: i wish i knew how to help her.
b: hold on guys! she is kinda waking up. jo! jo! can you hear me?
j: what...what's happening? where am i? (weak voice)
b: i found you passed out on your bed. jo you wouldn't wake up.
j: i don't feel so good. i feel really weak
b: i know...just...(jo passes back out) mrs. garret hurry! she passed back out!
mg: the hospital is right after this light. (they arrive) i'll go get a nurse, and you three try to carry jo inside.
all: ok mrs. garret. (mrs. g sees a nurse)
mg: nurse! nurse!
nu: yes, what can i do for you?
mg: i've got a girl back there who was here earlier due to an accident she was in...well we found her just a little while ago passed out and we couldn't wake her up.
nu: i'll go get a wheelchair.
mg: hurry!!!

(blair is looking through a magazine trying to take her mind off of jo, nat and tootie are sitting against the wall staring out into space, and mrs. g is pacing back and forth) (doctor walks in)
d: polniaczek?
mg: yes
d: well we have her stabalized, but she is fading in and out of conciousness.
b: oh no! do you know what's wrong?
d: she was here earlier b/c of that accident...
mg: yes?
d: well did she tell you how bad the accident was?
mg: the way she was talking, it sounded as if it was like a fender bender.
d: no! it was very bad. her car flipped twice and the other driver was killed.

d: well, we've been talking x-rays and catscans. the problem seems to be internal bleeding. mainly from her stomach area. the reason she passed out was from the loss of blood
mg: i should have listened to her. she said her stomach was bothering her.
b: why did it take so long before she passed out?
d: this type of injury can go unnoticed so easily
n: what is the next step?
d: right now the only option is surgery.
t: well get to it!
mg: tootie!
t: sorry.
d: i'll update you when we are done.
b: please take care of jo!
d: i will!
mg: thank you doctor (doctor leaves) i wonder why jo didn't tell me how serious the accident was?
b: she didn't want you to worry.
n: well it didn't work.
t: i'm sure she will be fine.
mg: i hope so

i finally have time to type some more!!!!

-in the operating room-
D: she is really messed up inside! i'm suprised she made it this long
Nu: she's lucky to have friend's that care so much for her.
D: yeah she is!

-a couple of minutes later-
Nu: Doctor! her heart rate is dropping! oh no it's gone!! i can't find a pulse!
D: charge the defibulator up to 200
Nu: Clear! (shocks jo)
D: we've got her back. that was close
Nu: Her heart rate is still a little low
Dkeep an eye on it. try to keep her stabalized. let's finish this as fast as we can.

-waiting room-
B: (to herself) something just went wrong. i know it did!
MG: (seeing the look on blair's face) What's wrong, blair?
B: i just had this sudden feeling that something went wrong.
MG: i'm sure everything is fine!
B: i hope so! i just can't lose jo!!!
MG: i know! i know!

-about 2 hours later-
(the 3 girls and mrs. garret are trying to rest in the waiting room when the doctor comes in)(blair jumps up and runs over to him)
B: is she ok!?! c'mon, tell me she is ok!
D: yes, for now! we did have some problems during the procedure.
T: what kind of problems?
D: wehll for one, she had more extensive injuries than we thought
N: yeah and the other thing is....
D: her heart stopped beating while we were in there.
B: i knew something went wrong!
MG: but she IS ok now, right?
D: it can still go either way right now. we will have to watch her to watch her very closely for the next 48 hrs. this is what we call the critical period.
B: can we see her now?
D: the nurses are getting her settled into ICU, but you can visit her one at a time in about 15 min. ICU room 12, 2nd floor.
MG: thank you

T: hi jo! i'm glad you are doing better. jo, i was so scared. you didn't look good at all. (moment of silence) well i guess i'll let nat come in. bye jo! (starting to tear up)
N: hey jo! get well soon. we need you to keep blair in check. it's not the same without your fighting. ok see ya later. bye (also tears up)
MG: (enters) oh jo! why didn't you tell me how bad the accident was (starting to cry and can't talk anymore) bye jo! i love you!
(blair enters, she is taken aback of how terrible jo looks)(she has tubes running in and out of her all over, more bruises have appeared. she is also very pale and does not have the same vitality in her face.)(blair begins to walk towards jo and sits down in the chair there. she takes jo's hand)
B: hi jo! (sniffling) please get well soon. i know i never show it , but i really do care for you. (blair brushes some hair out of jo's face) jo, if you make it, i...i will never make fun of you or the bronx ever again. i promise!
NU: i'm sorry, visiting hours are over
B: do you think you can make an exception? i would like to stay here tonight with her.
NU: i guess so. she's so lucky to have such good friends
B: (smiles) thanks! she means a lot to me.
NU: i can tell. goodnight!
B: thanks again! goodnight! (nurse leaves) jo did you hear? i'm staying her tonight.

-sometime in the middle of the night-
(blair wakes up to a beeping noise coming from a moniter hooked up to jo)
B: oh no! nurse! nurse!

(jo begins to wake up, to her everything is blurry. the room is spinning and she feels nauseous)(jo quickly closes her eyes, then opens them again. the feeling had gone away. she looks over and notices blair asleep next to her)
J: blair! blair! (in a weak whispery voice)
B: wha...oh jo! you're awake!
J: yeah
B: how are you feeling?
J: i still feel kinda wierd. hey! wait a minute. what happened?
B: that accident you were in, injured your stomach so bad, you passed out and you needed surgery.
J: wow! really?
B: yep. how come you didn't tell mrs. garret how bad the accident was?
J: i didn't think it would matter.
B: of course it does. jo, we almost lost you. your heart stopped beating in the operating room. you really shoud have told her, but all that matters now, is that you are ok.
J: (puts her head down in shame) i'm sorry! i let you all down.
B: no you didn't let us down. you scared us.
J: oh hey blair! i got some more bad news...your car...it's totaled and i didn't get your dress.
B: that's ok. i'll forgive you THIS time. (jo and blair boths smile and begin to laugh. jo stops b/c it hurts.)
J: ow! i guess i'm gonna hafta take it easy for a while.
B: yes, but don't worry, all of us will help you out.
J: thanks, blair! where is everyone?
B: they went home, they should be back soon. i had to beg the nurse to let me stay.
J: i'm glad you did. i'd be scared out of my mind if i woke up here by myself. (silence)

-a couple minutes later-
(doctor enters)
D: well, i see you're awake. that's good. i'm just going to check on your injury. (checks) well it seems to be healing very well. if you keep improving: you can go home in 2-3 days.
J: oh! that's great. thank you doctor!
B: yes thank you! (doctor leaves)
B: i'm glad you are going to be okay. it's not the same without you around
J: yeah i missed you too!
B: wait! i didn't say i missed you! i just said it's not the same. (slyly smiles)
J: blair! (weakly play hits blair and smiles)
B: you know i'm kidding!
J: you better be (raises fists) (both laugh)
