Just finished watching all of Season 5 (plus the bonus disc).

All in all, I found season 5 pretty good - you could tell it's winding down and it looks sort of tired -- lthough there were a few episodes that were amusing.

Highlights for me were the "trippy" ones like "I Am Curiously Yellow" and "Is This Trip Necessary?" (The Chief in Curls & A Dress is priceless on here). I also like "Ironhand", "Widow Often Annie" "And Baby Makes Four (Part 2)" (Not so much Part 1), "The Mess of Adrian Listenger" and "Smartacus" (check out Chief's wig).

You could tell they were running out of ideas and using previous ideas from older episodes. BTW, I noticed during the "Do I Hear Vaults" episode that they used a whole scene that was shown in an earlier episode ("The Treasure of C. Errol Madre"). WTH was that for? It was totally the same scene with the same dialogue and everything!

Overall great set -- now I'm going to go back and watch Season 1.

Ive never seen season 5...it was never shown here, the local CBS station never played it and theyve never shown season 5 in syndication here either.....but, on the other hand, it means that when i can finally get my hands on the DVDs, I will have an entire "NEW" season ,that will feel like a huge bonus! :)

I agree, season 5 was very good. All of the episodes that you mentioned were some of my favorites! I also enjoyed Physician Impossible, And Only Two Ninety-Nine and How Green Was My Valet.

My favorite parts to "How Green Was My Valet" was where The Chief and Larabee were taking care of the twins -- and also Max's fumbling while he was posing as the butler.

LOL, it was so funny when they used a flour sifter (I think that's what it's called) to powder the baby.

if the 5th season was that good, why do you all think they never made a sixth?

They were lucky to have even had a 5th season----after 4 years with NBC, they were cancelled and, amazingly, were picked up by CBS---a very rare move in television.

CBS squeezed a bit more life out of the show, but, really, it's like Billy K. said---it was winding down. The scene where Max and Larabee are driving a truck through traffic and we're seeing it from a pedestrian's point of view and then a bird's eye point of view, with no dialogue-----it just wasn't the same show anymore
