Any of the "real" Waltons really migrate to southwest Virginia?

In the first episode of season 3, at the end of that episode, Earl Hamner has his closing statement and says that his cousins eventually "settled in the southwestern part of the state"... I am very near the southwestern Virginia state line and wonder if they did indeed settle there and where? Does anyone know?
