Mysteries of the Brady Kitchen

In the first scene of "54-40 and Fight," the kids are fighting over the Checker Trading Stamps and Alice surprises them by opening a kitchen drawer and revealing her stash of trading stamps. The kids were totally surprised.

I was totally surprised that they didn't know the stamps were there. Are those kids so spoiled that they never had a reason to open a kitchen drawer?

When we were kids, my brothers and I knew our kitchen inside-out. Especially all the stash places!

I know. Back when I seen the BB during its first run, my family would get Blue Stamps trading stamps. (I wonder how many kids see this show now and wonder what the hell are those things? :crazy:) Anyhoo, I knew exactly when someone brought groceries home there were stamps. The Brady kids obviously knew there were stamps somewhere in the grocery bags or else, why would they have been looking? So, don't you think they would have wondered all those times that Alice and/or Carol shopped, where are those checker trading stamps from the previous shopping times?

LOL, i know what u mean... it was "S & H" Green stamps for us...used to get them at a Texaco gas station. I couldn't even guess what we ever got for the stamps!

In my hometown, 3 of the 4 corners at a highway intersection had gas stations... one (Texaco) gave out green stamps...that was "our" gas station... another station gave out "Plaid" stamps... and the third gave out "Blue" stamps.

My old Blue chip stamp store is now a second hand store. My Mom would collect those stamps and would get us things we needed. S&H Green stamps were given out at PW grocery stores.

YES! those too. :D We had the blue stamps and the S&H stamps as well. I loved going to the store with my sister. She would "buy" things and she would always buy me something. I remember this metal oven/stove and kitchen sink set she got me. I cherished those toys. They were awesome. Moveable faucet, the oven door opened, it came with dishes, pots and pans. Wow, the memories.:cool:

But back to the topic, it was so silly that the Brady kids never figured out or even ASKED as to where the stamps were at since it was something that was given out each and every time one went to the grocery store. :rolleyes:

Ours were Eagle stamps and my sister and I would spend lots of time licking and pasting them into the Eagle stamp books. My mom kept hers in a kitchen drawer too, and we knew they were there, but we were not allowed to touch them (or really anything in the kitchen) until my mom opened the drawer and told us to put them into the books, and she would use them to get something the family needed. Maybe the Brady kids were like that...knew they were there but didn't know there were so many. I could see that happening at my house when I was a kid, and I can see Alice running a tight kitchen and not allowing the kids to poke around in there. I can't ever remember the kids getting into anything in the kitchen but the fridge without Alice asking what they were looking for. Maybe that's it...???

Yeah, I mean, let me get this straight... BOTH sets of kids have been collecting those stamps for YEARS, and yet, neither side knew the other did that? The subject apparently just never came up, despite all of Carol and Alice's trips to the store.

And Alice, who had lived with the boys for years, had been saving the stamps also. I wonder how the boys got their stamps then? Did they do some of the grocery shopping? Did they get them instead of an allowance or as a reward?

I find it hard to fathom that neither the boys nor the girls ever inquired abt the stamps AFTER the parents married. It is clear they both were collecting them BEFORE their parents ever met, so that means each side was getting them from either Carol or Alice (the boys got theirs from Alice's shopping trips and the girls got theirs from Carol's shopping trips)...all of a sudden, after the family merges the boys suddenly don't ask Alice the whereabouts of the stamps and the girls never ask Carol or Alice abt the stamps either? Gimme a break here. :crazy: :rolleyes:

I noticed in a few episodes that when Alice was cooking the pots were empty and the burners were not on but in some episodes Alice was cooking and the pots were steaming not sure if the burners were on though.

I would like to know how come Alice was never scene having breakfast,lunch or supper with The Brady Family? Where did Alice eat? She lived with The Braddys,so how come she never ate with them? I soppose she ate her meals alone.Sad shes apart of the family but she cant join them for supper.

She probably chooses not to. She uses her own mind. She chooses to be a member of the family, but also maintain her professionalism.

I find it odd the family didn't have a television set AT ALL prior to that. This was the 70's, not the 50's. :crazy: Also, I can't imagine the family didn't think of a television RIGHT OFF THE BAT when they were trying to decide what to get for the family, rather than have that silly contest. The parents blew it in this one.

Ever notice there was an indoor grill in the kitchen that was never used once?? Right next to the double ovens.
