Amazon.com just posted a pre-order listing for the 9th season of Roseanne on DVD which includes a release date of October 16, 2007 and cover art.
Here's the link:
http://www.amazon.com/Roseanne-Season-Nine/dp/B000UR9QQM/ref=sr_1_30/002-9177635-9959257?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1186849311&sr=1-30
What does everyone think of the cover art?

What do you think? I honestly don't know what to say at all. Grey and Aqua? They just don't go together. It's common sense.
I saw hoping for maybe a light green or peach-ish color for the last season, but I guess I'll ust have to accept it. By far, the eighth season cover was the best, and this one could just about be the worst. The only thing I like is the picture of Roseanne and Dan.
And at least we know there will be special features: 2 "tell-all" interviews. I really hope there's more.

Now that I think about it, the cover art kind of fits the last season of the show: horrible.

No, it's always been scheduled for October. And, did Amazon take it off the preordering list? i can't find it anywhere on amazon.

Interesting that the studio is not Starz or Anchor Bay, but video Treasures.
Quite frankly i couldn't care less how ugly the cover is, or how many interviews or commentaries they put on the set. All i want is uncut episodes. Looks like that won't be happening though. :(

The episodes are uncut. The scenes that were out in season 8 were just for music issues, but nothing more.
And, by the way, Video Treasures is the same company as Anchor Bay. Anchor Bay used to be called Video Treasures when they were releasing VHS tapes back in teh ninties. Then, n 1996, they changed their name to Anchor Bay, and began releasing DVD's.

I like the first 10 minutes of that episode. Then, when Roseanne enters the room behind the wall, things got too crazy for me.

2 interviews? Is that it? It would be cool if one of them was with Sara Gilbert. I also hope that more extras will be announced. It's hard to imagine this set without a commentary on the final episode...:(
Wow, the cover art is bad....I don't mind the gray background, actually its the only thing I tolerate about it (I would have really liked a lime green background). The logo color should have been black because light blue doesn't go well with gray. The pic is awful! Goodman looks really weird. I think that this would be the perfect cover pic:

I think that picture is funny. I'm not sure if it should be on the front cover, but it is funny. I was hoping the final season cover art would have Roseanne, Dan, and Jackie on it (since most of that last year really was all about Roseanne and Jackie). I don't know. It`s just "okay" to me....The colors are aweful though.
On the bright side, I'm glad we`ll now have every single episode on DVD. Is this a TV DVD record? What other show has had 9 seasons released in 2 years?

I emailed Starz asking if there will be more special features and if there is any chance the cover art will change. Thankfully there will be more special features. I was told there will be a few audio commentaires (I'm guessing these will be VIDEO not Audio Commentaries). It would have been nice to have bloopers and maybe even some sort of curtain call from the final episode. I was also told that the cover art will NOT change. It has grown on me a bit but I'm still not happy with it.

It's also grown on me too, but I still think it's the worst cover yet. Anyways, Anchor Bay told me they haven't recorded the commentary yet, but they are trying to get Roseanne to do the finale episode, but there's no definity on that yet. I also hope they do it on The Birth, of course.

I don't know why everyone gives season 9 a bad wrap! It was brilliant and ahead of it's time if you think about it. In the interview on the season 8 DVD Roseanne said she wanted to do season 9 because she had not said anything political at the end of season 8. She wanted to show how money could suddenly change a blue-collar family when they went from rags to ritches. While the Conners vowed that the money would not change them -- inevitably it did. Just look at all the problems it created. In the end it was admitted that having the money screwed everything up and the Connor's would have rather not had the money at all which is what is revealed in the Finale -- There was NO lottery win! Dan died, and Roseanne and family were trying to cope with the loss!
I am not saying that it wasn't at times wacky, silly, and sometimes down right stupid but it did send an important message -- Money can't buy love and happiness and you do what you have to in order to get through depressing times.

Money didn't only change this blue-collar family. It changed this blue-collar family's ratings. It went from #18 in the eighth season to #35 in it's last. That's pretty bad, and so was this season.

I'm also looking forward to the episode "Roseambo". It's the one where Roseanne hijacks a train, or something like that. It's really a dumb episode, but I'm looking forward to watching it again, because it's been banned from airing on NAN and Oxygen again, after the whole thing with 9/11 and terrorists.

The only good things about the release of Season 09 is the fact that it completes the series and shows many eps. that are not shown on TV (Nick @ Nite skips sometimes more than half of Season 09 when it repeats it).

I know. I never understood why it was banned. Sure, it wasn't the best episode, and it wasn't giving out the best moral message, but it's just a sitcom. You're supposed to laugh at it.

Season 9 Press Release:
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Roseanne-Season-9-Press-Release/8093
It says that it will 'include two 'Tell-All' interviews with the Domestic Goddess herself'. This is disappointing! I was hoping these 2 interviews would be w/ other cast members. If it is just Roseanne why is it divided into 2 interviews?
Oddly, I didn't see anything about the video commentary in the press release. I hope other cast members will participate.

Well after season nine in 1997, the shows from the last season did not go into syndication right away. August of 1999 is when I was suprised that I was watching the lottery episode. Finally!

I don't know for sure. My guess and opinion would be that the last season was really bad. When TBS picked up the show in 1998, they did not air the last season either until over a year later. I remember specifically. In syndication and on cable networks, after Dan and Roseanne had that big falling out trashing up the house, the airings would just go back to episode one. I remember and wondered why for two years why the stations would not air that last season. I was thrilled when season nine hit the markets.

Maybe the networks didn't want season 9. I mean, it did pretty poorly inthe ratings. But, seeming how no network aired the last season until 2 years, possibly a rights dispute for the episodes?

don't let ratings tell you what's good or bad... make up your own mind on what is good or not. There are classic shows that never made the top 30 in the ratings and there are shows that were top 5 at their peak that are forgotten now. Veronica Mars was probably the best show on television in it's first two seasons, it never did well even for UPN/CW standards, but it was a good show.
The last season of Roseanne was good, ratings be damned. I understood totally what Roseanne was trying to accomplish that year and I respect her for it.

I understand the goal for Roseanne this season. She was trying to make that last season the way she wanted, the way she pictured it. She wanted to have complete control of that last season. If it wasn't for Roseanne, there wouldn't even have been a ninth season.
But, even with that said, the last season just wasn't good. The first 3 episodes were good . . . I loved the opener, and I loved the third episode, with the Springer sequence. But once they started going places, I wasn't entertained. Then when we found out Dan was having an affair, how unrealisitc can you get? I know that was supposed to show how life would be like without Dan, but it just didn't work. Then, the episode before the finale, "Arsenic and Old Mom" was great. It made me laugh nuemerous times. It showed how good of a season this could have been without the lottery.

I liked the first three episodes as well and then I even liked the affair eps then the Darelne's baby is premature storyline. Those were the down to earth moments for me. Okay so the lottery winning was not so down to earth but it seemed like a real and happy monumental moment for the family. Those eps when they all traveled and those campy storylines made me turn the other way.

The lottery was a monumental moment for the Conners . . . in the second and third episodes. Then they started going places, Dan went to see his mother in California, Jackie started dating the prince, and Darlene and Becky barely show up this season. Things got out of hand. But once the affair was over, and Darlene had her baby, things got back to normal. Too bad it was so late in the season already.

There were many shows that maintained high or even higher quality in their last season. I Love Lucy was no different in season 1 than in season 6. Frasier's final season was probably the best 1 of them all. Same goes for Cheers and Seinfeld. But, a change for Roseanne was necessary. By season 8 their blue collar image was getting boring, IMO. If they would have kept the same idea of a working class family in season 9, I probably wouldn't have watched at all.

After recently wating the 'Millions from Heaven' episode I realized that the Conner's winning the lottery had a lot of great potential. But unfrotunately it was not carried out too well. Mosty b/c John Goodman, Sarah Chalke, and Sara Gilbert were absent from this season added to the downfall. It would have been great to see Roseanne and Dan travel and experience the finer side of life. I was very dissapointed when pretty much nothing happened to Mark and Becky this season (except in the finale). Did Becky go back to college like she said she would in 'Becky Howser M.D.'? Did they still live in the trailer park? These questions weren't answered and whenever the two characters appeared they were just...there. They had virtually no lines they pretty much just stayed in the background. Overall I don't think that the lottery killed the show. It was the fact that cast members were missing and that a handful of episodes were boring and/or a bit over the top.

The Jeffersons Was on The Air For 11 Years And It Was In The Top 10 From It Sixth Season To It Tenth Season,Then in It 11th Season It Drop To 56th Place.
The Cosby Show-Pretty Much Stayed In The Top 20 In it 8 Years Run, But It Ratings Began Slip At The Start Of It Sixth Season And By It 8th Season It Rank 18th Place,But I Think That If The cosby Show Had Came Back For A Ninth Season It Would Have Dropped Out Of The Top 30s.
Home Improvement Stayed In The top 10 In It Entire 8 Years Run Even When The Kids Were Grown up.

That was the main reason for the downfall. That, and that the episodes were absolutely pointless. The only episode I actually could take watching out of all the "vacation" episodes, whatever you call them, was "Someday My Prince will Come" because it wasn't stupid, and actually showed the conners enjoying their money, not fighting terrorists on a train.
Sara and Sarah were barely in half the episodes of the season. I was hoping to see more of Darlene's pregnancy, and Becky in college, but none of that was shown.

I enjoyed seeing the Conners enjoying their money too. I did like the New York Episode when they were flown to New York. The sad thing about the Becky character was that she was not Lecy and that Sarah looked like she was more of a prop. I mean you could literally count the lines that she had for the entire season and was not there for half the time. Let's see for "Someday My Prince will Come":
Becky#2 and 4: This is so awesome
Hey, look. The Empire State Building
I think that she had one more line and that was pretty much it. That was sad.

Yeah that was bad. I think that the writers were afraid to use her more b/c she wasn't the original. If Lecy was in season 9 I'm sure Becky's character would have been more important.

I believe they decided to only let Sarah star in half the number of episodes, because she wasn't the original, and she wasn't the best actor at the point she was first cast. You can see that she only appears in around half the season 6 and 7, and in season 9, she was in like 8 episodes the entire show. I hated Sarah as Becky, so I couldn't care less. I would have liked to see more of Sara Gilbert, but it didn't happen that way.
