Having Albert be the one responsible for the fire at the blind school.
Carrie's dream.
Laura's dream abt the indians.
The episodes that bring on Cassandra and James.
Any episode after the Ingalls' leave Walnut Grove.
Bringing in Nancy.
The episode abt Laura's goat.
That cruel schoolteach who disliked Laura. Why he couldn't stand her out of all the students isn't made clear. He took an instant dislike to her for no reason. I could see if it was someone like Nellie or Willie.
The two-part episode abt Laura running away after her little brother dies. Ok, make the episode, but a two-parter? Too much for me.
Having Doc Baker fall for Mrs. Olsen's niece. It was nice to see him fall in love, and it bothered me to see them never get together and marry.

Laura's dream abt the indians.
Aw, I kinda liked that one.:) Yeah, it was pretty silly and pointless, but it was a Halloween episode, and I tend to like Halloween episodes. Don't ask me why.
It's not as good as the headless Harriet one, of course. The only other Halloween episode, I believe.
That cruel schoolteach who disliked Laura. Why he couldn't stand her out of all the students isn't made clear. He took an instant dislike to her for no reason. I could see if it was someone like Nellie or Willie.I kind of liked that one too. Especially when Pa came in and gave him the what-fors, and then took the guys stick and broke it.
I think Richard Basehart's portrayal of a teacher with (severe)control issues was very well done, as well as disturbing.
I remember watching him on the Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea series.
Carrie's dream. On that one I whole-heartedly agree with you.puke: What were they thinking when they wrote that?!
Other than to give Carrie an episode of her own.ohno:

 Yeah, I know what you mean abt Carrie. Poor thing, they never gave her much airtime or speaking scenes/parts. It was like they said, "Ok, here is a whole episode devoted to you. Never say we didn't give you speaking parts."

You should have named this thread "things I could have done without..." I don't like people speaking for me, especially when I don't agree with some of what they said.
If more than one person responds to the thread, "we" is perfectly acceptable...no one is "speaking for you"
Had it said "Things we could ALL have done without".....THEN, you might have a case!

Besides it says "assume" above...you and I know Mikado what it means if you assume something...

Laura's dream abt the indians.
Wasn't it Albert who had the dream? He was reading about the Indians while in bed, waiting to go to Nellie's Halloween party while dressed as an Indian chief. Unless you mean another episode?

You know, you may be correct. I detest that episode so much, I avoid it at all costs, so it has been a while since I have seen that episode. It's been a very long time, so I have forgotten who actually dreamed abt the indians. But I trust you are correct.

Well, I had seen the episode about 4 days ago on my Season 6 DVD, so I know it's correct if that's the episode you were referring to. I just didn't know if there was yet another ep where Laura could've dreamed about Indians herself, so I wanted to be sure. :)

I could've done without the episodes Sylvia, Halloween Dream and May We Make Them Proud - easily my least favorite episodes of the show. All focused on Albert - no offense to Matthew Laborteaux, but I never cared for Albert and think the show would've done fine without that character. OK, I'm waiting for you all to throw tomatoes at me! *ducking*

I think as the actresses got older, they probably were not that great actresses. Maybe that was the reason. James and Cassandra got the spotlight over the girls that played Carrie. I though that was messed up.

I could have done without "May we make them proud as well". Burning a baby and a cast member was too much for me. I spoke with Hersha Parady (Alice Garvey) and she said that it was really cool to be a part of (LHOTP and the fire episode).

The Election. The episode abt poor Elmer Dobkins. I can never watch this episode. It could be lost forever and I wouldn't care.
btw, the name Elmer must have been a name Michael Landon liked, because we later see that obese kid that Nancy "uses" is also called Elmer.
Elmer Dobkins is *the* grossest name I've ever heard, I think. It just screams pedophile.
I like most of the episodes, but I can never bring myself to watch the NB episodes. Them and anything based around James and Cassandra or Nancy.

James and Cassandra...puke:
They were completely superfluous characters. They were only in the spotlight for about 2 episodes, and then just faded into the background. What was the whole point of having them around??

James had some things happen to him, if I remember correctly. Wasn't he shot? What else?
I remember Cassandra being treated like crap by Nancy. Who wasn't?

I think it was just a cheap ploy to reinvent the Laura/Nellie rivalry. Needless to say, the audience didn't bite.

It's not clear because you are watching an edited version of the episode, "Troublemaker," which I think is a great episode! In the original version, Harriot invites Mr. Applewood over to dinner and tells him that Laura is a little troublemaker. Nels tries to stand up to defend Laura, ("I have always found her to be very pleasant, and well behaved.") but Harriot says, "That's because you aren't around when she's up to her tricks! Isn't that right? (She turns to Nellie and Willie) Nellie nods and Willie says, "I guess so." Mr, Applewood says, "Well, I've been forewarned." Harriot planted that Laura was a bad seed in Mr. Applewood's head. But because Hallmark/TV Land omit that dinner scene, those who did not see the full version think that Mr. Applewood hated Laura for no reason.

How about the character of Adam Kendall? Mary never married in real life, and having this guy written in the show led to the blind school fire. Plus, Adam was such a wimpy, wishy-washy guy. He was no Manly, that's for sure!!
biffbronson

That surprises me. I always thought the guy who played Mr. Kendall was likeable and had about the right look for the part. Nice guy for Mary.
On the other hand, the guy playing Mr. Wilder seemed like he would be a pain in the rear in real life and came off pretty annoying to me. Laura deserved someone a little less cocky in attitude.
I guess we'll have to disagree on these guys.

Yeah, we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. I loved Manly and Dean Butler's portrayal of him.

You could draw a parallel with fan reaction to Kathie Browne, who was brought in as a cast member of Bonanza to marry Adam (Pernell Roberts) -- although her character ended up marrying Will (Guy Williams) instead. Female fans in particular have never embraced Kathie, as understandably they sort of wanted Adam to remain always for themselves. It's similar for me with Laura - I didn't want some Wilder guy taking away my girl!!
I always thought Kathie was gorgeous and just right for Pernell/Adam. I would've loved to have seen a reunion on Trapper John, MD. And although lots of Bonanza people eventually did work on Little House, she wasn't one of them.

Most of the episodes of LHOTP are classics, but when they were bad, oh were they ever BAD!
Main things I hated, (No particular order.)
Albert puking on camera in "Home Again."
Nancy-(they just needed a Nellie clone) It was so obvious, to even try to replace the brilliance, humor, and wit of the Olesons, which IMO saved this show from what could have turned into The Waltons, was criminal.
Remember Me is a brilliant storyline but I hated the opening scene with that lunatic trying to drown the little puppies. Micheal Landon, who directed it may have gone for realism, but that was just too much. I know Mary and Laura saved them, but don't you think it would have been better if they had written the opening scene to Remember Me in a different way?
I actually like "May We Make Them Proud" It sugarcoats nothing and really deals with how the townspeople tried to recover from the tragedy. If Adam's speech at the end doesn't give you chills and move you to tears, you have no soul.
I wish Adam's character could have shown more backbone. Even in MWMTP, "Ummmmm.... Mary...There's a fire, we have to get the kids out." I DO agree that no Mother would turn over her baby to a stranger or even a friend, in this case, Alice, to help the kid locked in the bathroom. And you can also see a flaw in script continuity, where Alice has long pauses when she is ridiculously trying to "arrange Adam Jr.'s" clothing/blankets in his crib, or so it appears. as the fire gets worse. You can interpret this as Hersha waiting for a cue to say her line.
Hated Albert! One episode says he became a doctor, another says he died!
The whining and crying Cooper kids. UGGHHHH!!!
Jack
