Or so he should!!

SAGLE, Idaho - Bad dog. Charlie the black lab drove his owner's car into the Pend Oreille River. As Mark Ewing walked home Wednesday evening after returning from picking up a pizza, Charlie jumped into the car through an open window, and apparently knocked the vehicle into gear.

"He somehow got the car into neutral," Ewing said. "My car just went boom, down an incline and into the drink."

Ewing could only watch as his Chevy Impala sank into the river. No dummy, Charlie jumped out of the window as the car went downhill.

"There's nothing weirder than looking at your car cruising down your driveway when you're not in it and seeing your dog jump out and then watching your car go splash," Ewing said.

Actually, things got a little weirder when the tow truck driver showed up.

Before the driver dove into the water to hook the car up to his truck, he asked Ewing to hold his dentures.

"My car's in the drink, I've got dentures in my hand and this guy Keith ... goes swimming," Ewing noted.

I can imagine the officer saying to Charlie, the black laborador retriever, "Excuse me, sir, I need to see your driver's license, registration and proof of insurance, please!" Minutes later, that same officer would radio, "Send me another unit! The driver doesn't have anything but a dog license, plus his vehicle registration and proof of insurance have dog slobber all over them!" He'll end it by writing Charlie a citation and saying, "All right, Charlie, you're being cited for improper operation of a motor vehicle, failure to wear a seat belt and operating a vehicle without an operator's license. If you wish to contest your citation, please report to the court house with plenty of kibble and dog biscuits. If you fail to attend your scheduled court date, the K-9 Unit will issue a warrant for your arrest. In the meantime, so I don't have to arrest you on the spot, please place your paw print on the citation-it will be your promise to come to court or pay your traffic fine in kibble and/or dog biscuits". I know it's ridiculously silly, but what do you make of a black lab dog, being behind the wheel of a moving car, anyway? Crazy!

Its a shame though, imagine if Charlie learned to drive properly, then he could get in his own cop car and chase Toonces.....be a little like an all-animal version of Dukes of Hazard!!!

Yeah, going "into the drink" means to fall into a large body of water
