I know this is normal nowadays, but Rolly was basically an elder, almost senile, Leola was just an older woman who was probably 20 years younger than Rolly. She was basically almost holding him up.

He was funny with his sarcastic one-liners. But, he didn't seem as mobile as they trid to make him.

Rosetta LeNoire was no spring chicken, lol. I always thought it was dumb how they gave him a fiancee and then she disappears with no explanation. I know Rosetta went on to do Family Matters where she probably thought she would get more camera time but they could hae recasted her Amen character.

They did recast her with the actress that played Mother Ferguson on the show a year earlier.

Just for the record, on Family Matters the other day, she married Fletcher, and Rolly (Jester Hairston) played Fletcher's father!

That's right! I remember that for sure. ABC Family aired that ep recently.

I was just going to mention that. By the way, Rolly was by far my favorite character on Amen. He was priceless. Jester Hairston was also an accomplished singer/songwriter, mainly in the gospel genre. God rest both him and Rosetta LeNoire! :D

Rolly and the Deacon is what made the show watchable. All the other characters were DUDS

Yeah, Rolly was funny because he had his one liners, and Ernest Frye was nobody but George Jefferson playing a lawyer if you look at it.

They reran the two part Rolly/Leola wedding episode on ION the other night, and I enjoyed seeing it again. I was howling when one by one, all the main characters came in to the pastor's office to ask Rolly why he was backing out. Great episode!
