This has mentioned on here before, but the audience really contributed to this show (sometimes too much). I was watching the episode in year 5 in which JJ is dating a married woman and the audience is whooping and carrying on something awful in that one, esp when the woman's husband comes out of the bathroom. When he is about to leave the apartment you can clearly hear some woman in the audience yell out "Where you going? Can I go?"
Kind of reminds me of what I read in a book about stand up comedy- this comic said that black audiences are more brutal than white audiences- the white ones will sit demurely and listen, the black ones will let you know in no uncertain terms whether or not they're feeling your act. He said that the whites come to be entertained but the blacks NEED to be entertained.
As for Good Times and shows like it, it's a credit to the actors that they didn't break their stride because of the way the audience carried on at times. I could just imagine the stage crew had to keep the audience quiet so the show could go on.

That happens in all sitcoms. I am reminded of the pilot episode of CIC....when Charles is kissing Gwendolyn, you could hear a man say, "Get her, Charles!"

You could also hear the remarks the audience make in the first four seasons of FOL...

Definitely- Season 2 had ALOT of energy (thanks in large part to the audience). You don't see that on shows as much today.

Probably because there hasn't been any pther REAL characters like the One John amos Portrayed-lol

I absolutely disagree. While I will agree, James was an unsung hero of GT, the audience was going WILD over JJ and only JJ.

I'm talking about the scenes that did not involve J.J, only james. The scene with Mad Dog, Florida and James, the scene with James and Clarissa's father, and the scene with James and Thelma's Old Boyfriend

I see what you are saying, but the explosions and foot stomping were mainly for JJ. By season 2, he was the star.

There was screaming and Foot Stomping in all 3 of those scenes I mentioned also
