Disney Channel Horror: Customers Get Porn Instead
(CBS4) NEW JERSEY Many New Jersey residents watching the Disney Channel Tuesday morning were outraged after the family-friendly programming turned into a pornographic display.
Jennie Sherman still can't believe what happened while she was watching the show "Handy Manny" with her two twin sons.
"We were just sitting here and the screen just froze and then all of a sudden I saw very graphic pornography on the television and I scrambled to get the remote to shut it off," Sherman told WCBS-TV in New York City.
Sherman said she immediately recorded the X-rated graphic video on her DVR. She then e-mailed wcbstv.com to report the shocking news.
"Basically because I said my husband is not going to believe this," she said. "I was in shock, I pressed record and shut the television off."
Comcast spokesman Fred De'Andrea issued a statement regarding the incident:
At around 9:30 Tuesday morning we had an isolated issue in a local New Jersey Facility. We immediately detected the issue and it was corrected promptly...We apologize to any customer who experienced an issue this morning. We are continuing to investigate the root cause of the incident.
Comcast officials also point out this had nothing to do with the Disney Channel.
"If I was in the kitchen and not with them and this had happened, I would hit the roof I think," Sherman said.
Sherman said she contacted customer service at Comcast and they couldn't tell her if others had complained but they did credit her for a month but she said she is still afraid of turning on her television.
"I am definitely worried to put the Disney Channel on again (or) Comcast again," Sherman said.

Line of the day.
To paraphrase Norm MacDonald, "Children watching called it 'the best episode of Handy Manny ever.'"
Seriously, that's horrible. I don't think this kind of stuff "accidentally" happens. It has to be the handiwork of a hacker, or a disgruntled Comcast employee.

Odd how it's pretty much always porn isn't it? It's never, say, the Travel Channel or BBC America or something that gets placed on instead when something like this happens.

Oh, that's not porn. Donald Duck just doesn't wear pants, that's all.You know, some morality groups in Finland actually tried to ban Donald Duck for that very reason over twenty years ago! Not only because he was pants-less, but because they were not sure of the origins of his so-called "nephews". And what was his relationship with Daisy Duck?? Anything to do with the mysterious appearance of Huey, Dewey, and Luey? ;) From what I recall, some group in Germany or elsewhere finally convinced them that Donald was in fact a very moral duck. :D

This has happened before. I was living in Tampa back in 1992 and was 14 at the time. Our local station WTTA 38 was running an episode of Gunsmoke and then there was a shot of two people having sex on the screen for nine seconds. Needless to say, someone was fired and this made news across the country and Jay Leno used it as material on his show.

In the show's entire 20-year run, Matt Dillon never kissed Miss Kitty so consider yourself lucky for seeing the only sex scene during an episode of Gunsmoke.

I saw an ep of Gunsmoke guest starring Gregory Sierra (:eyes:  :eyes:) as a Native American Chief. The plot involved selling women into slavery. They were all attractive women so I think you can figure out which kind of slavery it was. He grabbed one of the women while drunk and dragged her into a teepee. He tried to do it again later in the episode with disasterous results. With the long wig and the robes he wore, he looked just like Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean!!

With political correctness the way it is, I don't think you'd see that kind of thing happening today, unless Sierra was killed at the end and the women made some kind of feminist stance.
Of course, in those days, just showing him dragging the woman into a teepee made your lurid imagination run wild, much more so than if they showed him shagging her, like they would today.

Actually - (SPOILERS) his character was killed at the end of the episode by Marshal Dillon. The woman he raped and tried to rape again later in the episode was killed first. He kept leering at her and saying "Come". She said "no" over and over and struggled to get away. One of his friends, trying to protect him, shot the woman dead. It was a 2 part show and I never saw the second half so I'm not sure how the whole thing was resolved (she had a daughter played by Dawn Lyn).
Speaking of political correctness, there's no way that a man of Hispanic background like Gregory Sierra could play a Native American today without all kinds of backlash. Times sure do change.

Whatever way you look at it, the episode would not be made the same way today.
I never saw the episode, but it sounds very interesting. I'm glad that TV didn't suffer from political correctness in those days.

There was a funny episode of Friends where Joey and Chandler discover that they're getting porn for free on cable. Their building super tells them it happened to him before, but once he shut the TV off, it was gone.
They keep the TV on for days, but decide that they need to get on with their lives, so they shut it off. After a minute, they turn it back on to discover that it's still on. "Yes!!":D

the only thing I don't like about this story is.... I agree that porn shouldn't be exposed to children. But it seems like in general, people are afraid of anything with sexuality, but have no issues with children being exposed to SAW, Hostel and all those horror movies that go beyond scares and go into sadism and torture. It doesn't bother people that children are exposed to that, but nudity is the worst thing in the world?
I agree that the mother had every right to complain and go public with this... but had Disney accidentally switched over to SAW II or Hostel, would she be as furious as with porn? People have double standards regarding violence and sexuality, and I don't understand it because I think sadistic violence is more scarring than nudity.

a great example of this hypocrisy is the Janet Jackson nipple incident. She was crucified and her career pretty much was destroyed on the spot for that. Yet... there are plenty of shows on television that have graphic violence and nobody bats an eye. I have only seen a couple CSI episodes but have some freaky things in there that would mentally scar a child more than a split second shot of a 40 year old woman's breast. Hell, Buffy's one of my fave shows ever, and I remember the sex scenes between Buffy and Spike in season 6 put it at #1 on the PTC's most hated shows (I think PTC are nazis who thinks adults are supposed to watch Hannah Montana) but yet they didn't mind when Willow literally skinned Warren alive after murdering Tara. That's okay, it's only violence, but a couple sex scenes between Buffy and Spike crosses the line of morality and decency.
